I’m linking up with Top Ten Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Check out upcoming Top Ten themes on Jana’s blog!
It’s been a minute since I did one of these “predictions” posts, and after taking a break, I thought I’d try again. Maybe it’s too much pressure to assume I’m going to give a book five stars, but hey, it’s all in good fun:-) Here are ten books releasing between January and June 2024, that have a good chance of being five star reads for me (listed alphabetically):
An Education in Malice by S.T. Gibson. This is the first of TWO books by Gibson on this list, and I’m excited for both of them. I loved A Dowry of Blood, and this is the next book in the series, a dark academia tale.
The Angel of Indian Lake by Stephen Graham Jones. The finale of Jones’s epic slasher/horror series is bound to leave an impact on me, and it could very well be a five star read, even if the other books in the series didn’t quite get that rating. (My Heart is a Chainsaw and Don’ Fear the Reaper)
Echo of Worlds by M.R. Carey. This is book two in Carey’s epic SF, multiverse series, and I gave the first book (Infinity Gate) five stars, so I have high hopes for this.
Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands by Heather Fawcett. I sense a trend: I gave the first book in the series (Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries) five stars, so there’s a good chance I’ll love this as well.
And the second book on this list by S.T. Gibson, Evocation. This is the start to a new fantasy series, and it sounds so good!
Ghost Station by S.A. Barnes. I loved Dead Silence, and this has a similar feel to it. Horror in space is definitely one of my favorite sub genres!
Craig DiLouie is a favorite author of mine, and although only one of his books received a full five star rating from me so far (Our War), I always look forward to his new books. I’m loving the horror movie trope, so How To Make a Horror Movie and Survive could be a lot of fun.
Likewise, Chris Panatier is doing some very creative things in SFF fiction, and his first book (The Phlebotomist) was a five star read for me. I’m hoping The Redemption of Morgan Bright works just as well.
I loved Yume Kitasei’s The Deep Sky this past year, and I’m adding her next book, The Stardust Grail, to this list because she’s such a talented author.
Finally, What Feasts At Night by T. Kingfisher is the sequel to the very creepy What Moves the Dead. Kingfisher is one of those authors who can always surprise me:-)
So excited for What Feasts at Night, I loved What Moves the Dead, and the new Emily Wilde sounds great too 😀

Me too, I always end up loving Kingfisher’s books.
I have no doubt that the second book in MR Carey’s duology will rate five stars, and I can hardly wait to see how he will wrap up the story. Both Ghost Station and What Feasts at Night are among the books I most look forward to 🙂

Carey has a big job ahead of him, it’s such an epic story for only two books:-)
The title How to Make a Horror Movie and Survive had me thinking back to a 2017 Japanese zombie comedy called One Cut of the Dead. The first part was so very boring but then things flipped and it was a lot of fun from then on, and it would fit the title of the book, too.
I haven’t heard of that movie but I’m curious now:-)
I hope you adore all of them!

Thanks Lydia!
Let’s see if they become 5 stars indeed!
We shall see;-)
Very cool to see your predictions! I hope they all deserve the five stars! I’m really looking forward to the DiLouie and Kingfisher books…. and I still need to read the 1st in the Carey series so I’ll be ready for #2!
Hopefully 2024 will be a great year for books, I feel like there’s a lot of potential:-)
These are some great titles and authors! I am particularly excited for T. Kingfisher’s book, and I have Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries on my TBR, so I expect if I love it, I’d love the next one too. What a great list, thanks so much for sharing. Now I have to add them to my TBR!

I can’t wait to read more from Craig DiLouie – Episode 13 was such a pleasant surprise.
I know, I always look forward to his new books:-)
I hope all of your predictions come true!
Thanks Deanna:-)
Ghost Station. Yes please! And Map of the Otherlands looks awesome. I have the first one to read next. 🙂
I hope you love it!
Even if I enjoy An Education in Malice half as much as A Dowry of Blood, it will still be a 5 star book I think haha 😀
Agreed, I’m so excited for An Education in Malice:-)
Ooh, interesting list theme. I don’t think I’d dare try and guess; I’m so picky sometimes!

Me too, it’s a long title but somehow it works.
Ghost Station sounds really cool. I might need to try out his previous books. I added Evocation to my list to look out for. And of course I had Emily Wilde’s Map of the Otherlands on there.
Hopefully you will love all of these 😀

Thanks Susan! It will be interesting to see what my actual ratings turn out to be.
Yes, I’m watching a few of these and have high hopes.
Lynn 😀
Hopefully we’ll both love them:-)
I don’t write them down anywhere but in my head I guess I do predict which reads will be 5 stars for me. I’ll be curious to see how many of these end up being 5 stars. I hope all of them! 🙂
Suzanne @ The Bookish Libra recently posted…Thriller Thursday Review: #CrimeTime
In the past I’ve ended up with half of them being 5 star, which isn’t bad:-)
I really hope that these end up being five star reads for you. I’m really hoping to finally read Emily Wilde soon so fingers crossed that I end up loving it as much as pretty much everyone else.
Me too! I hope we both love Emily Wilde:-)
I don’t like making five star predictions (feels like jinxing myself somehow) but I do have a great feeling about the new Emily Wilde!
Ha ha I know what you mean, I just think it’s fun to speculate. And yep, I have a good feeling about Emily Wilde too:-)
Dude this is brave! Like some others have said, I worry about jinxing it (which is, admittedly, probably silly) but straight up like all of these are on my MUST-read list, so my fingers are crossed that they are awesome for us both!

Ha ha I know! I’m actually curious after I read them all to see which (if any) turn out to be 5 stars.
