Over-Booked [186] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

It’s been a month since my last book haul, and I’m excited about all the new arrivals I received! Here are the latest books to make their way to my mailbox and Kindle:

Books in the mail for review:

Big thanks to Solaris for a copy of Three Eight One by Aliya Whiteley. Whiteley is an auto-read author for me, I’ve really enjoyed her brand of “weird” in the past. This sounds different from her other books but there’s also a “weird” element to the story that could go either way for me, lol. We shall see!

I rarely get surprise book mail anymore (which is sad, it’s one of my favorite things), so I was excited to receive The Monstrous Misses Mai by Van Hoang courtesy of 47North. This wasn’t on my radar, but now I’m intrigued! The story takes place in 1950s Los Angeles and involves a first generation Vietnamese main character and magic. This is an April 2024 release that I will definitely be reading.

I still haven’t read anything by Cynthia Pelayo, which is a shame because I’ve had her books on my TBR for years. So I was very excited to receive a copy of her upcoming book Forgotten Sisters, which comes out next spring. Big thanks to Thomas & Mercer for the review copy:-)

The next three books are courtesy of the wonderful team at Tor Books:

Your Shadow Half Remains by Sunny Moraine is a novella that sounds pretty creepy: coming into contact with other humans is not a good idea, and I want to know why!

I was also very happy to receive an ARC of The Tusks of Extinction by Ray Nayler. I have Ray’s book The Mountain in the Sea on my TBR but haven’t read it yet, so I’m looking forward to reading this novella first.

Finally, I received a lovely finished copy of Bookshops & Bonedust by Travis Baldree, which I have already read and reviewed.

Digital books for review:

When I saw the blurb for Bless Your Heart by Lindy Ryan, I knew I had to read it. Vampires, Southern Texas and 1999? That’s a combo I need in my life, lol.

I’ve had Paula Brackston’s books on my TBR for years, but I don’t think I’ve ever read one. The Haunting of Hecate Cavendish sounds really good, and now I’ll be able to cross her off my list:-)

Three Kinds of Lucky by Kim Harrison is the start to a new series, and I’m on board!

Big thanks to Minotaur, St. Martin’s Press and Ace for the review copies:-D

Do you have any of these books on your TBR?

I think that’s just a part of the blurb on the ARC cover, it’s confusing. I remember you didn’t enjoy it, so now I’m a little worried??

  1. The only one of these really on my radar is Bookshops & Bonedust, so it looks like I’ve got some research to do to get the know the rest. 🙂

  2. Ooo… Three Kinds of Lucky is definitely one I want to get!! I enjoy Kim Harrison’s writing, so getting hold of the first in the series would be lovely:). You have a lovely haul here, Tammy – thank you for sharing.

I love that it’s a new series. I so often miss out on the first book or two and then I can never catch up, lol.

  3. I’m looking forward to your review of Naylor’s amazing technicolor mammoth skull! (I haven’t actually read the blurb, but I assume it’s basically a mammoth in a disco?)

  4. Some great looking books here. I really need to read the Harrison series since it’s a new one. I feel desperately behind on her old one and really loved it. I’m wondering if I can just jump back in and pick up. Maybe I can find some summaries on them somewhere,
