Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D
Sorry, no sci-fi this week, but take a look at these newly revealed covers: a mystery/suspense and two horror novels:
In this captivating novel of suspense, a wilderness guide must team up with the man who ruined her life years ago when the friend who introduced them goes missing.
Emlyn doesn’t let herself think about the past.
How she and her best friend, Janessa, barely speak anymore. How Tyler, the man she thought was the love of her life, left her freezing and half-dead on the side of the road three years ago.
Her new life is simple and safe. She works as a fishing and hunting guide, spending her days in Idaho’s endless woods and scenic rivers. She lives alone in her Airstream trailer, her closest friends a handsome and kind Forest Service ranger and the community’s makeshift reverend, who took her in at her lowest.
But when Tyler shows up with the news that Janessa is missing, Emlyn is propelled back into the world she worked so hard to forget. Janessa, it turns out, has become a social media star, documenting her #vanlife adventures with her rugged survivalist boyfriend. But she hasn’t posted lately, and when she does, it’s from a completely different location than where her caption claims to be. In spite of their fractured history, Emlyn knows she might be the only one with the knowledge and tracking skills to save her friend, so she reluctantly teams up with Tyler. As the two trace Janessa’s path through miles of wild country, Emlyn can’t deny there’s still chemistry crackling between them. But the deeper they press into the wilderness, the more she begins to suspect that a darker truth lies in the woods―and that Janessa isn’t the only one in danger.
Poignant, suspenseful, and unforgettable, THE NATURE OF DISAPPEARING explores what it takes to start over―and the cost of letting the past pull you back in.
The Nature of Disappearing by Kimi Cunningham Grant. Releases in June 2024 from Minotaur Books. I discovered Grant two years ago when I read and loved These Silent Woods, so I was thrilled to see she has a new book coming out next year.
A chilling twist on the “cursed film” genre from the bestselling author of The Pallbearers Club and The Cabin at the End of the World.
In June 1993, a group of young guerilla filmmakers spent four weeks making Horror Movie, a notorious, disturbing, art-house horror flick.
The weird part? Only three of the film’s scenes were ever released to the public, but Horror Movie has nevertheless grown a rabid fanbase. Three decades later, Hollywood is pushing for a big budget reboot.
The man who played “The Thin Kid” is the only surviving cast member. He remembers all too well the secrets buried within the original screenplay, the bizarre events of the filming, and the dangerous crossed lines on set that resulted in tragedy. As memories flood back in, the boundaries between reality and film, past and present start to blur. But he’s going to help remake the film, even if it means navigating a world of cynical producers, egomaniacal directors, and surreal fan conventions—demons of the past be damned.
But at what cost?
Horror Movie is an obsessive, psychologically chilling, and suspenseful twist on the “cursed film” that breathlessly builds to an unforgettable, mind-bending conclusion.
Horror Movie by Paul Tremblay. Releases in June 2024 from William Morrow. I swear, I’m going to have to put together another “cursed movie” list, it seems to be the most popular trope these days! I love the sound of this, and I want to see how Tremblay puts his spin on the trope.
The national bestselling author of #HorrorBookTok sensation The Troop returns with a heart-pounding novel of terror about a young woman searching for her missing friend and uncovering a shocking truth.
On a sunny morning in June, Margaret Carpenter wakes up to find a new iPhone on her doorstep. She switches it on to find a text from her best friend, Charity Atwater. The problem is, Charity’s been missing for over a month. Most people in town—even the police—think she’s dead.
Margaret and Charity have been lifelong friends. They share everything, know the most intimate details about one another…but Charity carries a secret that even she is unaware of. A secret engraved into her DNA helix. For Charity is also known Subject Six, the crown jewel of Project Athena—a clandestine and unorthodox gene manipulation experiment, the brainchild of tech titan Rudyard Crate. And when Charity’s gene sequencing actualizes during a traumatic event at a high school party, it sets in motion a chain of events that will end in tragedy, bloodshed, and death.
And now Charity wants Margaret to know her story—the real story. In a narrative that takes place over one feverish day, Margaret follows a series of increasingly dreadful breadcrumbs as she forges deeper into the mystery of her best friend—a person she never truly knew at all…
The Queen by Nick Cutter. I have yet to read anything by Nick Cutter, but I definitely don’t want to miss this one. Plus I love the retro cover design:-)
The Queen sounds like the proverbial page-turner, indeed! Earmarked for the “wanted” list…
Thanks for sharing 🙂

It does sound good:-)
All three of this books sound really great and suspenseful but I especially love the synopsis of Horror Movie. And looks like it will come out in time for spooky season next year! 😀

Yes, perfect timing, I can’t wait:-)
I also enjoy Kimi Cunningham Grant and may have to try that one.
I was so impressed by her last book:-)
I’ll definitely want to read the Paul Tremblay — these cursed movie books never fail to fascinate! The first book really appeals to me to. Apparently, terrible things happening in the wilderness is a specific subgenre that I love. 🙂 Great picks!
I love the “wilderness” setting too, plus I love the author:-)
I always look forward to seeing which treasures you’ll introduce me to this time each week. I don’t read a lot of horror, but Paul Tremblay is one of those author’s I really want to read. The Nature of Disappearing sound good too! I hope you enjoy all of these when you read them, Tammy.

Thanks Wendy!
These all sound so good. I keep meaning to read Nick Cutter as well because I always hear such good things about his books (and how gross and creepy they are, haha).
I really need to try Nick Cutter’s books too, hopefully this will be my first:-)
Hope you get these and enjoy!

Thanks Stormi!
I might have to try Horror Movie. Thanks for sharing!
It sounds good, right?
Horror Movie sounds really good, and it sounds like the sort of thing that would make a good movie/tv series too 😀
I thought that too, I’m so curious to read it!
Haha, I feel like you are single handedly breaking my TBR! I like the sound of all three *headdesk*
Lynn 😀
LOL
Like you, I thoroughly enjoyed These Silent Woods, so I’d certainly be up for trying The Nature of Disappearing.
It seems like it’s another “wilderness” setting, which makes me very happy:-)
I love that fabulous retro cover – thank you for sharing, Tammy:).
Me too, I love covers with “ripped” edges:-)
These look and sound good. I can’t believe you’ve read anything but Nick Cutter yet. I’ve actually read two and really enjoyed The Troop although we know how I felt about Little Heaven.
I can’t believe it either. And yes, I do remember how you feel about Little Heaven, lol.
Yay the author of These Silent Woods is going to have a new book out? And it’s another wilderness thriller? I am so there!
I was so happy to learn about it, I can’t wait!
WELL looks like I need every one of these in my life! My poor TBR! But I can’t say no to wilderness survival and weird DNA and movie curses, can I!?
