Intergalactic Book Tag 2023 @SciFiMonth #SciFiMonth

Artwork copyright: Yosua Bungaran Cahya Putra

This is my third year doing this tag, and of course I have all new choices this year. I’m not sure who created this tag, but I found it on Maddalena’s awesome blog:-)

SPACE: NAME A BOOK THAT TAKES PLACE IN A WORLD OTHER THAN OUR OWN

Hel’s Eight by Stark Holborn. This story takes place on a moon in another solar system, a desert wasteland that feels much like the Wild West in many ways.

BLACK HOLE: NAME A BOOK THAT COMPLETELY SUCKED YOU IN

The Endless Vessel by Charles Soule. Every Charles Soule book has sucked me in, and this one is no exception. The Endless Vessel is one of the most unique, engaging books I’ve read this year.

LIGHTSPEED: NAME A BOOK YOU ARE ANTICIPATING SO MUCH THAT YOU WISH YOU COULD TRAVEL AT LIGHTSPEED TO GET TO IT

Ghost Station by S.A. Barnes. I have quite a few “must read” 2024 books already, but Ghost Station is definitely at the top of the list.

NEBULA: NAME A BOOK WITH A BEAUTIFUL COVER

The Deep Sky by Yume Kitasei. How can you not love this cover? And the story is just as wonderful:-)

MULTIVERSE: NAME A COMPANION OR SPIN-OFF SERIES YOU LOVE

Fractal Noise by Christopher Paolini. Fractal Noise is the prequel for To Sleep In a Sea of Stars, so while it might not technically be a spin-off, this book is much different and it felt like the right choice for this prompt.

GRAVITY: NAME YOUR FAVORITE ROMANTIC PAIRING THAT SEEMS TO HAVE A GRAVITATIONAL PULL TO EACH OTHER

These Burning Stars by Bethany Jacobs. Oh gosh, I really loved the relationship between Jun and Liis, it was so well done and believable, and emotional! I also loved Esek’s relationships with Chono and Six. If you love complex relationships, you need to read this book.

THE BIG BANG: NAME THE BOOK THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON READING SCI-FI

I change my choice for this prompt every year, and Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card is a book I read long ago and fondly remember for influencing my future reading.

ASTEROID: NAME A SHORT STORY OR NOVELLA THAT YOU LOVE

The Mimicking of Known Successes by Malka Older. This is a cozy mystery in space, the first in a series, and it was a delight!

GALAXY: NAME A BOOK WITH MULTIPLE POVs

Infinity Gate by M.R. Carey. This epic story alternates among the points of view of three main characters, each one with his own fascinating story.

SPACESHIP: NAME A BOOK TITLE THAT WOULD BE A GREAT NAME FOR A SPACESHIP

Descendant Machine by Gareth L. Powell. I think this title would work really well as a ship’s name, what do you think?

Let me know if you do this tag too! 😀

  1. Ender’s Game is the only one of these I’ve read, and Ghost Station is likely the one I’d most like to read, though I think I’d enjoy a number of them (maybe all of them?).

  2. I’ve been in the mood for sci-fi all year and haven’t found something right for me yet. This list is amazing! I might finally scratch that sci-fi itch before the year is done.

  3. Great tag 😀 I haven’t read enough sci fi to try to attempt it but I’ve definitely found at least a couple I might like to try, especially The Mimicking of Known Successes.
