It’s one of my favorite blogging months of the year! Welcome to Sci Fi Month 2023, hosted by the wonderful imyril @ There’s Always Room for One More, Mayri @ BookForager, Annemieke @ A Dance With Books and Lisa @ Dear Geek Place. You can click on any of those links to learn more about the event, and even join in yourself.
I can’t believe it, but this is my TENTH year participating in Sci Fi Month! Way back when, it was called Sci Fi November and had different hosts, but the idea has never changed. This is a month to celebrate all things science fiction, whether it be books, movies, TV, gaming or whatever form of entertainment you like best. The hosts have created a list of daily prompts for participants, and I will probably join in several of them. My plans for the month might change, but here’s a general idea of what to expect on the blog:
Books:
I’m listing six “hopeful” reads for Sci Fi Month. All of these are review books, so we’ll see how many I can get to. By the time this post goes live, I will have finished These Burning Stars by Bethany Jacobs. Earth Retrograde by R.W.W. Greene will probably be up very soon, followed by Calamity by Constance Fay. The Blighted Stars by Megan E. O’Keefe and Devil’s Gun by Cat Rambo are both overdue releases (oops), and Memory Reborn by David Walton comes out at the end of the month.
Lists:
I love a good list, and I have a couple planned for sure:
20 Adult Science Fiction Books to Read in 2024
Favorite Science Fiction Books of 2024 So Far
I usually do a YA version of “Books to Read in 2024” but this year I’m really struggling to find ANY YA science fiction. Is it just not a thing these days? I’m going to keep looking, but as of now this list is a “maybe.”
Other SF related posts:
Future Fiction: Staring next Wednesday, look for all sci-fi related Future Fiction posts.
“Friday Fives”: This is a weekly prompt that I haven’t done before, but I’m going to try to participate this year. Here are the prompts:
November 3rd: “When will then be now?” Alternate history books
November 10th: “Upgrade me” – The intersection of humanity and technology, think artificial limbs, implants, etc.
November 17th: “I gotta get one of those.” Futuristic technology.
November 24th: “Eat your greens.” Food in science fiction
Other stuff: If I find a good tag to do, I’ll probably add one in. I usually do a giveaway as well, but I haven’t decided yet if I’m doing one this year. With no Book Depository and free international shipping, I would have to offer the giveaway to U.S. only, which I don’t like to do. We’ll see…
Other November books:
Despite it being Sci Fi Month, I have to admit my two most anticipated books of November are The Star and the Strange Moon by Constance Sayers and The Ghosts of Beatrice Bird by Louisa Morgan, which are both fantasy.
And of course, like many readers, I’m very excited to read Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros. I may drop everything to read it when my preorder shows up!
In the thriller genre, I hope two read two favorite authors’ latest: Good Girls Don’t Die by Christina Henry, and Where He Can’t Find You by Darcy Coates. These covers look startlingly similar, right?
Tonight, I Burn by Katharine J. Adams is a fantasy/romance with witches and sounds sooo good!
The Olympian Affair by Jim Butcher is the second book in Butcher’s Cinder Spires series. It’s a chunky book, coming in at almost 700 pages, so I suspect I won’t get to it by the release date, we’ll see.
The Hunting Moon by Susan Dennard is a sequel to The Luminaries, which was a fun YA I read last year.
Finally, Chaos Terminal by Mur Lafferty is yet another sequel, and yes, I realize this should be up in the Sci Fi Month section, but it’s just a matter of design. I like the look of six books together rather than seven, lol.
Looking forward to the sci-fi bonanza!

Me too, I do love to immerse myself in SF:-)
Oh my! There is a lot to look out for on your blog this month!! I am just so curious about the lists! And you mentioned a lot of books that sound interesting, so I am looking forward to read your thoughts on them!
I have recently finished These Burning Stars (and I loved it!) and I’d love to read Devil’s Gun soon. My TBR for November is quite full so I don’t know when I’ll mamage, but there is hope!
I’m glad you also loved These Burning Stars!
I’m very curious to know what you think about The Blighted Stars: I found it very riveting and I will be reviewing the second book in this gripping series for SF Month – among other things…
See you on the space lanes! 😉

Your review of the second book has convinced me this is a “must read” series:-)
Hope you enjoy Sci Fi Month, it looks like you have some great books lined up 😀
I hope so! I think it will be a fun month:-)
I’ve always wanted to participate in Sci Fi Month but that and Nonfiction November always fall together and you know I can’t not participate in NN. *sob* But I’m looking forward to all your posts this month, of course!

We will enjoy each other’s posts I’m sure:-)
Wow, so many good ones coming up! I’m planning to read Iron Flame, and I really should have requested the Constance Sayers, but I’m overloaded at the moment — I hope to get to it, but it’ll be a while. I’m still curious about the Mur Lafferty series. I DNFd the first book, but that may have had a lot to do with my mood at the time, since I’ve really enjoyed other books by her. Good luck with your November books!
The first Mur Lafferty was hard to get into for me, but it ended up working at the end:-)
A cracking post, Tammy:)). I’ve just nicked across to Netgalley and requested The Olympian Affair as I really enjoyed The Cinder Spires – fingers crossed I get a copy! I’ve agonised whether to join in Sci Fi Month this year – but after last week’s relapse, I think I’m going to take the pressure right off and give it a pass. I’ve got another book coming out in December and I want the whole process to go a lot more smoothly next time around! I’ve promised myself an audio version of Iron Flame – so I’m looking forward to listening to that, too.
Probably a wise choice to step back this month. You can always throw in a SF book review if you happen to read one.
Sci-fi Month is always so much fun! I have so many fun things coming up. 🙂
I hope we both have a great month!
I love this theme. Chaos Terminal was lots of fun. I’m reading Olympian Affair now.

I’m so curious to hear your thoughts on The Olympian Affair.
Of the books you’ve listed here I’d really like to read Devil’s Gun as I had fun with the previous book. And I think I’d read somewhere the next Murderbot book may be coming out soon, so looking forward to that. At some point I picked up audiobooks of the previous ones and may start listening to those as rereads.
Yes, I think the next Murderbot is coming out this month. I haven’t kept up with the series, so I won’t be reading it, but I hope you enjoy it!
Hope you love all your scifi!

Thanks Stormi!
Yay! Happy SciFiMonth reading Tammy!
Thank you!
My sci-fi coverage will probably be lighter this year, since horror seemed to have stolen sci-fi’s thunder in 2023 🙂 I do love the Friday prompts, if I have time I’d love to do some of those too.
I always start out with big plans but I do burn out by the end of the month, lol.
Welcome aboard again Tammy. Looking forward to your lists.
Thank you!
You have a wonderfully busy looking month to look forward to. I wish I’d been more organised but this year has just gotten away from me after a terrible start. There’s always next year.
Lynn 😀
I’m not sure how organized I’ll end up being, we shall see…
wow, quite a plate!
It is, I’m a little overwhelmed, lol.
I’m sooo ready for Iron Flame! My pre-order is on the way and I keep checking the tracking. Supposedly, it’ll arrive Friday. Also, same on the Darcy Coates and Christina Henry books – super excited for both, but I keep getting their covers mixed up in my head lol!
Looks like you’ve got a lot of good books to read this month! Enjoy 🙂
