Future Fiction #250 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

And the cover reveals keep rolling out…take a look at three upcoming Summer 2024 releases:

From USA Today bestselling author T. Kingfisher comes A Sorceress Comes to Call―a dark retelling of the Brothers Grimm’s Goose Girl, rife with secrets, murder, and forbidden magic.

Cordelia knows her mother is . . . unusual. Their house doesn’t have any doors between rooms―there are no secrets in this house―and her mother doesn’t allow Cordelia to have a single friend. Unless you count Falada, her mother’s beautiful white horse. The only time Cordelia feels truly free is on her daily rides with him.

But more than simple eccentricity sets her mother apart. Other mothers don’t force their daughters to be silent and motionless for hours, sometimes days, on end. Other mothers aren’t sorcerers.

After a suspicious death in their small town, Cordelia’s mother insists they leave in the middle of the night, riding away together on Falada’s sturdy back, leaving behind all Cordelia has ever known. They arrive at the remote country manor of a wealthy older man, the Squire, and his unwed sister, Hester. Cordelia’s mother intends to lure the Squire into marriage, and Cordelia knows this can only be bad news for the bumbling gentleman and his kind, intelligent sister.

And indeed Hester sees the way Cordelia shrinks away from her mother. How the young girl sits eerily still at dinner every night. Hester knows that to save her brother from bewitchment and to rescue the terrified Cordelia, she will have to face down a wicked witch of the worst kind.

A Sorceress Comes To Call by T. Kingfisher. Releases in August 2024 from Tor Books. This was a surprise announcement last week, it wasn’t even on my radar! I’m always excited to see a new T. Kingfisher book, especially when she’s reimagining a fairy tale. This sounds very dark, but I’m sure there’s plenty of Kingfisher’s trademark humor and heart as well.

From the author of How to Survive Your Murder comes another twisty, meta thriller about two teens returning to the site of the Camp Lost Lake murders to uncover long-buried family secrets.

Most peoples’ births aren’t immortalized in a police report. Unlike Olivia, who was born in the middle of a massacre. Literally. Despite such an auspicious start, Olivia’s life has been pretty perfect. Until she discovers the man she calls dad is not her biological father. And the only place she knows to seek answers about her paternity is the site of the murders, Camp Lost Lake, where her mom worked until that deadly night.

Most people don’t spend their formative years on the run with an alleged murderer. Reagan did, and she’s had enough. In the court of public opinion, her mom has been tried and found guilty of the deaths at Camp Lost Lake 17 years ago. Since that night, Reagan and her mom have been in hiding, and she’s determined to find evidence to exonerate her mom once and for all.

Luckily for Olivia and Reagan, Camp Lost Lake is finally reopening. Providing the perfect opportunity to find answers. As Olivia and Reagan delve deeper into the camp’s history, they uncover a tangled web of family secrets. But someone else is desperate to keep the past hidden, even if it means committing murder— again .

As darkness falls, the only way to uncover the truth of what occurred all those years back is to unmask the killer. If they can survive.

Two Sides to Every Murder by Danielle Valentine. Releases in June 2024 from Razorbill. This pick is purely based on the author, since I absolutely loved Delicate Condition, and now I will read everything Valentine writes. Even if it’s YA, lol. This sounds like fun and has a sort of slasher vibe to it, with the summer camp setting. I cannot wait!

From Chuck Tingle, author of the USA Today bestselling Camp Damascus, comes a new heart-pounding story about what it takes to succeed in a world that wants you dead.

Misha is a jaded scriptwriter who has been working in Hollywood for years, and has just been nominated for his first Oscar. But when he’s pressured by his producers to kill off a gay character in the upcoming season finale―”for the algorithm “―Misha discovers that it’s not that simple.

As he is haunted by his past, and past mistakes, Misha must risk everything to find a way to do what’s right―before it’s too late.

Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle. Releases in July 2024 from Tor Nightfire. The movie horror trope is alive and well, and I’m very curious to see how Chuck Tingle handles it. I had a lot of fun with his last book, Camp Damascus, so I’m definitely on board for this one.

Well, the point of my Future Fiction posts is to showcase cover reveals, which happen months ahead of publication:-)

  1. Kingfisher is really knocking out the books! I will also read anything involving a camp. I STILL need to read Delicate Condition. I started it but didn’t get far, started watching the American Horror Story it’s based on and hated that, but still hope to get to the book. Great choices this week!

Interesting that you hated the American Horror Show version of Delicate Condition. I thought the ads looked so lame and had nothing to do with the book, so I say give it a shot again!

  2. I was so excited to see the cover for A Sorceress Comes to Call on Twitter, and I hadn’t even known about it! I had also added Two Sides to Every Murder when I saw that Danielle Valentine had a new book coming out, but was surprised to see that it was from a YA publisher. I had thought she was using her name “Danielle Valentine” only for her adult fiction!

I didn’t even know she wrote YA! But in either case, I’m on board to try it, I was so impressed with Delicate Condition.

  3. A Sorceress Comes to Call sounds like one of 2024’s must-reads:)). Thank you for looking so far ahead and letting us know what is in the works, Tammy!

  4. Yeeep I need all of these! Luckily, I knew about two of them already, so my list will only expand by one heh. I actually don’t think I have read a book by Danielle Valentine yet, but I know I have a bunch on my list? Clearly I need to remedy this! And always here for a new Kingfisher, of course! I am also really excited to see what Chuck Tingle does with this- the last book was so much more heartfelt than I was expecting, so I am also really eager to see what he does here!
