Over-Booked [181] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

Lots of exciting books arrived in my mailbox in the last three weeks, so let’s get right to it!

Books in the mail for review:

Huge thanks to Tor for this first group of books! First up, a lovely finished copy of Devil’s Gun by Cat Rambo. This book comes out Tuesday so I’m a little behind, but I’ll be reading it soon.

I’m thrilled to have an ARC of Calamity by Constance Fay, the first book in Tor’s new Bramble imprint, which focuses on romance, in this case, science fiction/romance. The publisher is comparing this to Firefly which makes me very happy:-)

I also received a lovely hardcover of The Water Outlaws by S.L. Huang, about a group of female bandits. It’s sounds like fun!

And finally, from Tor Teen I received a copy of The Hunting Moon by Susan Dennard, the second book in her Luminaries series. I’m curious to see what happens next:-)

Good Bad Girl by Alice Feeney was an Instagram win, I was very surprised! This is already out, but I hope to squeeze it in next month. Thank you Flatiron!

Huge thanks to Quirk Books for What Kind of Mother by Clay McLeod Chapman. I’ve read all of Clay’s books and he never disappoints! I can’t wait to start this.

Strange Unearthly Things by Kelly Creagh is a Gothic, paranormal retelling of Jane Eyre, and I’m very curious about it. With thanks to Viking Books for Young Readers for the lovely finished copy:-)

Big thanks to Page Street Books for 101 Horror Books to Read Before You’re Murdered by Sadie Hartmann. I’ve already reviewed this and loved it, it’s a perfect horror reading guide for all horror fans.

Last but not least, I was very happy to receive a copy of Cruel Angels Past Sundown by Hailey Piper from Kaye Publicity and Death’s Head Press. I’m currently reading this splatter western, and I’ll have a review up next week.

Digital books for review:

I was finally approved for The Bad Ones by Melissa Gilbert, I am so excited to read her follow up to Our Crooked Hearts, which was amazing!

I just featured The Frame-Up by Gwenda Bond on Future Fiction, and I rushed to request it as soon as I could. This sounds like a lot of fun!

The Stranger Upstairs by Lisa M. Matlin is a horror/thriller about a social media influencer who buys a murder house and decides to renovate it. The cover is so eye-catching, it was hard to say no to this one!

With thanks to Berkley, Del Rey and Bantam for the review copies:-D

Are you planning on reading any of these books?

  1. As ever, an interesting haul of books. I’m particularly keen to get my hands on The Hunting Moon as I thoroughly enjoyed The Luminaries and want to know what happens next – that creepy world Dennard created has stayed with me! And my attention is snagged by the Jane Eyre retelling and Calamity… Thank you for sharing – I’ll keep an eye out for these offerings:)).

I did love Dennard’s world in The Luminaries, and hopefully she will expand on it in the sequel:-)

I think the author chose the title for that reason, so people would do a double take and pick it up:-)
