Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D
So many cover reveals, but only three spots. Who did I choose this week? 🙂
An ancient Aztec vampire roams the modern world in search of vengeance and love in this seductive dark fantasy from the author of The Haunting of Alejandra.
Hundreds of years ago, she was known as La Malinche: a Nahua woman who translated for the conquistador Cortés. In the centuries since, her name has gone down in infamy as a traitor. But no one ever found out what happened to La Malinche after Cortés destroyed her people.
In the ashes of the empire, she was reborn as Malinalli, an immortal vampire. And she has become an avenger of conquered peoples, traveling the world to reclaim their stolen artifacts and return them to their homelands.
But she has also been in search of something more, for this ancient vampire still has deeply human longings for pleasure and for love.
When she arrives in Dublin in search of a pair of Aztec skulls—artifacts intimately connected to her own dark history—she finds something else: two men who satisfy her cravings in very different ways.
For the first time she meets a mortal man—a horror novelist—who is not repelled by her strange condition but attracted by it. But there is also another man, an immortal like herself, who shares the darkness in her heart.
Now Malinalli is on the most perilous adventure of all: a journey into her own desires.
Immortal Pleasures by V. Castro. Releases in April 2024 from Del Rey Books. I still haven’t read Castro’s last book, The Haunting of Alejandra (which I intend to catch up with soon), but I was thrilled to see her next book announced. A “seductive dark fantasy” with vampires, wow this sounds good!
From Hugo Award nominated author comes a high-octane post-apocalyptic romp set in the ruins of Manhattan.
Tomorrow, the funk descends on Manhattan, a noxious cloud which separates the island from the rest of the world and mutates the population. Some generations on, the surviving population exists amid the rubble of modernity, wearing our cast-off clothing, worshipping celebrities as dim gods and using emojis in place or written language. The Island exists in a state of uneasy peace, with each neighborhood an independent fiefdom, protecting itself with scrap metal spears and Molotov cocktails.
But something new has come to the Island, the first tourist in centuries, and this uneasy equilibrium is about to shatter…
Tomorrow’s Children by Daniel Polansky. Releases in February 2024 from Angry Robot. I haven’t read a Daniel Polansky novel in several years, so I’m very happy to see a new one coming out. I love the sound of this post apocalyptic SF story, and wow the orange cover is fantastic!
Vakov Fukasawa is a Reaper. An elite soldier injected with a dangerous drug called the DNA of a genocidal alien race, the Shenoi. It makes him stronger, faster, more aggressive. At a price.
A price that, if the House of Suns cult and the dangerous Shenoi alien race behind it, isn’t stopped, all of humanity will have to pay . . .
Wolfskin (The Common #3) by Jeremy Szal. Releases in 2024 (?) from Gollancz. The blurb is pretty vague, but I’m very excited to read the next (final?) book in Jeremy’s action-packed SF series. I’m not sure why this series isn’t being published in the U.S. by now, it’s so good! Here are the first two covers, I just love the way these work together:
Thanks for introducing me! These all look great!
It’s a good bunch:-)
I love the only V. Castro book I’ve read and NEED to read more. That book sounds so good. But for some reason, the cover is giving me severe From Dust ’til Dawn movie vibes!
I love the cover, and I need to read it too:-)
Tomorrow’s Children is the one that really jumps out at me. I can’t wait to learn more about it!
Doesn’t it sound good? And it’s got such an eye catching cover:-)
I like the sound of Tomorrow’s Children. That genre always appeals to me.

Me too, I have really enjoyed his books in the past.
I want to check the second one 😀
Me too!
Well Immortal Pleasure seems to be ultra hot Tammy!
It seems that way!
The second I heard about Tomorrow’s Children it went on my TBR! It sounds SO good and I love the cover! Immortal Pleasures sounds quite interesting too, I think I shall add that one! And you are right, those series covers work great together! I have not heard of it, but I will check out the first book for sure!

It’s been a while since I’ve read Polansky, I’m definitely reading Tomorrow’s Children!
Good grief that first cover. Dang!! And I like that we’re getting vampires that aren’t all european these days…
That second one too. I haven’t read Angry Robit in while

The first cover is great, right? It definitely makes me want to read it:-)
I haven’t heard of any of these, but IMMORTAL PLEASURES looks veerryyy interesting. Vampires aren’t usually in what I tend to gravitate to these days, but I certainly liked reading about them in high school/early college.

I’m intrigued by the cover, I must read it:-)
The cover of that first one is fabulous! All of these sound great.
I agree, such an intriguing cover:-)
These all sound so good and so fun. I need to check out that Jeremy Szal series! And that cover for Immortal Pleasures is stunning.
I adore the Immortal Pleasures cover:-)
Immortal Pleasures sounds really good, and I like that cover for Tomorrow’s Children too 😀

It’s hard to resist a bright orange cover:-)
Immortal Pleasures is going on the top of my 2024 wishlist. It honestly already got me at “an ancient Aztec vampire” but the synopsis was so much more than I expected.

I can totally understand why you want to read Immortal Pleasures:-)
I need to start Szal’s series!!
It’s really good, I wish more people knew about it:-)
I love the sound of Tomorrow’s Children!! What a cool premise – it sounds a little bit like the brilliant Earthgirl series by Janet Edwards, which I absolutely love. And the Jeremy Szal series looks wonderful – I’m a sucker for excellent space opera!! Thank you for sharing, Tammy:)).
You’ll definitely have to read Tomorrow’s Children if it reminds you of Earthgirl:-)
I’m having a vampire ‘moment’ so the first book really appeals to me.
Lynn 😀
