Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D
Today I have quite the mix of genres, so something for everyone:-)
An enchanting novel about a witch who has a second chance to get her magical powers—and her life—back on track, from the national bestselling author of The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches .
Sera Swan was once one of the most powerful witches in Britain. Then she resurrected her great-aunt Jasmine from the (very recently) dead, lost most of her magic, befriended a semi-villainous talking fox, and was exiled from her magical Guild. Now she ( slightly reluctantly and a bit grumpily) helps Aunt Jasmine run an inn in Lancashire, where she deals with her quirky guest’s shenanigans, tries to keep the talking fox in check, and longs for the magical future she lost.
When she learns about an old spell book that could hold the secret to restoring her power, she finds herself turning to Luke Larsen, a gorgeous and icy historian who might be the only person who can help her unlock the book’s mysteries. The fact that he also happens to be her one-night stand from years ago is totally irrelevant.
Running an inn, reclaiming lost magic, and trying not to fall in love is a lot for anyone, but Sera is about to discover that she doesn’t have to do it alone…and that the weird, wonderful family she’s made might be the best magic of all.
A Witch’s Guide to Magic Innkeeping by Sangu Mandanna. Releases in April 2024 from Berkley. I’m in love with this whimsical, pink cover, and the story sounds wonderful. I didn’t read Mandanna’s last book, so I definitely want to check this out.
The Birds meets The Princess Bride in this tale of friendship, responsibility, and the primal force of nature.
“Murder owls are extreme,” Jude said. “What’s more extreme than murder owls?”
Madeleine Purdy is stuck in her home town library. When tens of thousands of owls descend on the building, rending and tearing at anyone foolish enough to step outside, Mad is tasked with keeping her students safe, and distracted, while they seek a solution to their dilemma.
Perhaps they’ll find the inspiration they seek in her favorite childhood book, The Silent Queen….
With food and fresh water in low supply, the denizens of the library will have to find a way out, and soon, but the owls don’t seem to be in a hurry to leave…
The Parliament is a story of grief and missed opportunities, but also of courage and hope.
And of extremely sharp beaks.
The Parliament by Aimee Pokwatka. Releases in January 2024 from Tordotcom. Ooh a story inspired by The Birds, this could be very cool. This sounds like it’s going to be very emotional as well, can’t wait!
DON’T WALK ALONE, OR THE STITCHER WILL FIND YOU. Abby Ward lives in a town haunted by disappearances. People vanish, and when they’re found, their bodies have been dismembered and sewn back together in unnatural ways. But is it the work of a human killer…or something far darker? DON’T STAY OUT LATE, OR THE STITCHER WILL TAKE YOU. She and her younger sister live by a strict set of rules designed to keep them safe―which is why it’s such a shock when Hope is taken. Desperate to get her back, Abby tells the police everything she knows, but they claim their hands are tied. DON’T CLOSE YOUR EYES, OR THE STITCHER WILL REMAKE YOU. With every hour precious, Abby and her friends are caught in a desperate game of cat and mouse. They have to get Hope back. Quickly. Before too much of her is cut away. And before everything they care about is swallowed up by the darkness waiting in the tunnels beneath the home they thought they knew.
Where He Can’t Find You by Darcy Coates. Releases in November 2023 from Sourcebooks Fire. Having just read and really enjoyed Darcy Coates’ last book, Dead of Winter, I’m excited she has yet another new release this year!
I’m going to HAVE to read A Witch’s Guide to Magic Innkeeping because I wanna meet that semi-villainous talking fox.
I also wanna read The Parliament because it says The Birds meets The Princess Bride and I just had never expected to see those two titles together. Sounds brilliant honestly!
Where He Can’t Find You sounds scary already without having even read it. People being dismembered and then sewn back together. So creepy!

Me too, I can’t wait to meet the fox:-)
I like the sound of the Coates book very much.
Lynn 😀
It does sound good, I’m on board for anything she writes.
I read and thoroughly enjoyed The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches – so I’m very keen to get hold of a copy of A Witch’s Guide – and I, too, love that pink cover!! And The Parliament is another one that sounds like a cracking read – thank you for sharing, Tammy:))).
I feel like the last person to read The Very Secret Society, I must catch up now:-)
I just got an arc of the Darcy Coates book and I can’t believe there is a companion novel to The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches – I loved that book. And an evil talking fox. Sign me up please! And you have to read the first one. It kind of gave me The House on the Cerulean Sea vibes.

The Parliament sounds great, and I’d definitely read A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping — really enjoyed her previous book!
A lot of people loved that first Mandanna book, I need to catch up:-)
The Birds meets The Princess Bride? Now THAT’S curious. And I need more stories inspired by Birds, hoenstly.

Right? Such an unusual comparison. Now I need to see if it works!
A Witch’s Guide to Magical Innkeeping sounds so like it would be so much fun, I really think I’ll have to keep my eye out for that one. The Parliament and Where He Can’t Find You also sounds amazing!
I want to request all of these, lol!
Oooh! I love the cover to the Parliament! Great picks!

I need to read Darcy Coates.
I really love her books, she seems to have quite a variety of genres:-)
I’m so excited to see Sangu Mandanna has another book coming out. I adored her first one!
I will have to go back and read her first book as well!
I know you shouldn’t pick a book based on the cover but that first one is so sweet 😀

I adore that cover too, maybe it’s that shade of pink:-)
I wasn’t interested in her first cozy witch book, but I’m loving the sound of A Witch’s Guide to Magic Innkeeping. I may have to go back and read the first one!

I’ve heard good things about the first one, but I agree, for some reason this book sounds even better.
I’ve never heard of these but they all sound soooo good! So little time for sooo many great reads! 😀

Ooh Sangu Mandanaa comes to YALC London so I plan on reading that one!
That’s so cool! I would love to meet her:-)
Oh look at me, just over here needing to add ALL of these to my list. Like- I WANT to not want to read the bird one because BIRDS, but… I still kind of want to anyway? In fairness, Idk if Witch’s Guide is a “me” book, but I love the cover so much I almost don’t care? Oops?
