Over-Booked [178] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

The mailbox has been busy in the last two weeks, I’m very excited about all these new books, take a look:

Books in the mail for review:

With thanks to Orbit for the first two books! I had a lot of fun with Willa Reece’s Wildwood Whispers, and Wildwood Magic appears to take place in the same setting but with different characters and perhaps a different time period? Not sure, but I’m looking forward to it. This is a July release so I hope to read it soon:-)

Also from Orbit, I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about The Blighted Stars by Megan E. O’Keefe, and even though this was a May release, I plan to read it within the next month, hopefully.

I have a couple of YA books in this pile, surprisingly. First, Curious Tides by Pascale Lacelle is described as Ninth House meets A Deadly Education, and I’m intrigued by that comparison! Big thanks to Margaret K. McElderry Books for this lovely review copy:-)

And from Angry Robot, I was very surprised and delighted to receive a UK ARC of Mothtown by Caroline Hardaker, which included postcards of all the artwork in the book. Such a special treat, and I’m happy to say I’ve already read and loved this book!

The Jinn-Bot of Shantiport by Samit Basu is one of my most anticipated Tordotcom titles of the Fall, and I’m thrilled to have this lovely review copy. Thank you Tordotcom!

Find Him Where You Left Him Dead by Kristin Simmons was a surprise arrival, thanks to Tor Teen! This is described as Japanese-inspired horror, and I cannot wait to dive in:-)

I loved Cassandra Khaw’s last book, so it was a no brainer to accept her upcoming novel, co-written with Richard Kadrey, The Dead Take the A Train. This appears to be a cosmic horror/urban fantasy mash-up. Thank you Tor Nightfire!

Last by not least, big thanks to Quirk Books for Bride of the Tornado by James Kennedy. Lots of mixed reviews for this on Goodreads, so I’m a bit nervous! But I’ll give it a shot.

Digital books for review:

Just a few new NetGalley books this week. I couldn’t resist downloading Calamity by Constance Fay, the first release by Tor’s new Bramble romance line. Here’s a quick blurb from Goodreads: “Bramble’s inaugural debut is equal parts steamy interstellar romance and sci-fi adventure, perfect for fans of Firefly and Ilona Andrews.”

Hemlock Island by Kelley Armstrong is a book I’ve been eyeing for a while, so I was happy when a publicist offered me a copy. It’s been years since I’ve read this author, so I’m excited to read this.

Witch of Wild Things by Raquel Vasquez Gilliland sounds like a cozy, witchy romance, and it has a cover to go with that description!

Big thanks to Bramble, St. Martin’s Press and Berkley:-D

Do you have any of these on your TBR?

I think it’s a standalone, which is different for Armstrong, I know she loves writing series!

  1. I need to read “The Blighted Stars” as soon as possible.

I’m looking forward to reading your thoughts about “The Deep Sky.” I just posted my review of the book.

  2. Some lovely looking books here, Tammy:)). I love the cover for Curious Tides – and I’m hoping to get hold of Hemlock Island, as it’s years since I read Armstrongs books, too! I hope you enjoy this trove – as ever, they all look very enticing.

  3. I didn’t get to read Wildwood Whispers which is why I didn’t request the sequel, but I guess it’s not really a true sequel? That makes it sound like it can be read as a standalone, hmm! Now I’m intrigued and tempted, though I really should read what I already have first
