Future Fiction #234 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Are you trying to add to your January/February 2024 TBR like I am? Ha ha. Well, here are some great suggestions:

A dangerous alliance between a Vampyre bride and an Alpha Werewolf becomes a love deep enough to sink your teeth into in this new paranormal romance from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Love, Theoretically and The Love Hypothesis.

Misery Lark, the only daughter of the most powerful Vampyre councilman of the Southwest, is an outcast—again. Her days of living in anonymity among the Humans are over: she has been called upon to uphold a historic peacekeeping alliance between the Vampyres and their mortal enemies, the Weres, and she sees little choice but to surrender herself in the exchange—again…

Weres are ruthless and unpredictable, and their Alpha, Lowe Moreland, is no exception. He rules his pack with absolute authority, but not without justice. And, unlike the Vampyre Council, not without feeling. It’s clear from the way he tracks Misery’s every movement that he doesn’t trust her. If only he knew how right he was….

Because Misery has her own reasons to agree to this marriage of convenience, reasons that have nothing to do with politics or alliances, and everything to do with the only thing she’s ever cared about. And she is willing to do whatever it takes to get back what’s hers, even if it means a life alone in Were territory…alone with the wolf.

Bride by Ali Hazelwood. Releases in February 2024 from Berkley. I caught this cover reveal on Instagram, and I was so surprised! Ali Hazelwood is known for her contemporary STEM romances, and this sounds very different. A paranormal romance with vampires and werewolves? I’m definitely going to try this!

Curses are made to be broken.

For centuries, generations of Everlys have seen their brightest and best disappear, taken as punishment for a crime no one remembers, for a purpose no one understands. Their tormentor is a woman named Penelope, who never ages, never grows sick – and never forgives a debt.

Ten years ago, Violet Everly’s mother left, determined to break their curse, and never returned. Now Violet must find her mother, or she will be taken in her place.

To do so, she must descend into a seductive magical underworld of power-hungry scholars, fickle gods and monsters bent on revenge. She must also contend with Penelope’s quiet assistant, Aleksander, who she knows cannot be trusted – and yet to whom she finds herself undeniably drawn.

Tied to a very literal deadline, Violet will travel the edges of the world to find Marianne and the key to the city of stardust, where the Everly story began . . .

Filled with magic, stardust, and a shockingly dark heart, this is a stunning standalone fantasy perfect for fans of The Ten Thousand Doors of January , The Starless Sea and The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue .

The City of Stardust by Georgia Summers. Releases in January 2024 from Redhook. This is such a pretty cover, and I love the idea that it’s a standalone, rather than the beginning of a series.

Investigator Mossa and Scholar Pleiti reunite to solve a brand-new mystery in the follow-up to the fan-favorite cozy space opera detective mystery The Mimicking of Known Successes that Hugo Award-winning author Charlie Jane Anders called “an utter triumph.”

Mossa has returned to Valdegeld on a missing person’s case, for which she’ll once again need Pleiti’s insight.

Seventeen students and staff members have disappeared from Valdegeld University—yet no one has noticed. The answers to this case could be found in the outer reaches of the Jovian system—Mossa’s home—and the history of Jupiter’s original settlements. But Pleiti’s faith in her life’s work as scholar of the past has grown precarious, and this new case threatens to further destabilize her dreams for humanity’s future, as well as her own.

The Imposition of Unnecessary Obstacles (Mossa & Pleiti #2) by Malka Older. Releases in February 2024 from Tordotcom. I really enjoyed the first book in the series, The Mimicking of Known Successes, and I’m looking forward to more adventures with Mossa and Pleiti! This is such a fun sci-fi mystery series, highly recommended:-)

I read somewhere that she’s wanted to write this book for a long time, so now I have to read it:-)

  1. Oh my, I didn’t know Ali Hazelwood is getting into paranormal romance. I don’t typically read them (with the exception of vampire ones every now and then), but I’m game to read hers. Definitely will keep my eye out for Bride and try to get my name on the library waitlist soon.

I’m curious mostly because of the author, it seems like such a departure for her.

  2. I’ve just requested The City of Stardust and I LOVE the sound of the Malka Older book – I’ll be getting hold of her first book:)). Wonderful selection as always, Tammy:)). Thank you for sharing!
