Quick Fire Fantasy Book Tag @wyrdandwonder #wyrdandwonder

Magic portal artwork by Tithi Luadthong.

I did this tag a couple of years ago for Wyrd & Wonder, so I thought it would be fun to do it again with updated book choices. This tag was originally created by The Bookworm Dreamer, and it’s a quick fun tag. Join in if you’d like!

5 Star Book:

Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett and Our Crooked Hearts by Melissa Albert are two recent five-star fantasies. Both are very different from each other too! Emily Wilde is a delightful story about fairies, while Our Crooked Hearts has a contemporary setting with lots of horror in addition to fantasy.

Always going to Recommend:

Sort of an obvious choice! I (and many other readers) loved Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros, and I can’t help but choose it as my “always going to recommend” book.

Own it but haven’t read it yet:

Chlorine by Jade Song is a blend of horror and fantasy, but I’m totally counting it for this prompt because a) I just purchased a copy last weekend and b) I’m dying to read it, and so this post serves as my promise to do so:-)

Would read again:

I loved the hell out of The Shadow Glass by Josh Winning, a retro 80s romp through a fantasy world that might feel a little familiar. Josh has a new horror book coming out this summer, and I can’t wait to read it!

In another world:

Fonda Lee’s Untethered Sky takes place in a world where rocs and manticores rule the sky, and a young girl’s desire to train her very own roc leads to a wonderful bond.

Back on Earth:

Weyward by Emilia Hart takes place in our world, but the characters in this book possess subtle magic based on nature. This was such a delightful surprise!

Have you read any of these books? Let me know if you do this tag too so I can visit!

  1. I’ve treated myself to an audio edition of Fourth Wing, which I’m going to tuck into during June. I’ve only read the Emily Wilde book but I MUST get hold of something by Fonda Lee, as I’ve heard so many good things about her and I think I’d enjoy her writing.
