Over-Booked [174] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

It’s been five weeks since my last book haul! Where does the time go?? Anyway, I have lots of new books to share, especially in the digital haul. Here are my latest book acquisitions:

Received in the mail for review:

As always, Tor is extremely generous, so huge thanks to Tor for the first six books:

I’m excited to have a beautiful finished copy of Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh. I’ve been seeing lots of rave reviews, and I’m going to try to read this soon, as I believe it might be out in the world already.

Thornhedge by T. Kingfisher was a big surprise! I’m always ready for a new Kingfisher book. This is fairly short but it sounds so good.

I’m also thrilled to have a copy of Boys in the Valley by Philip Fracassi. This is another book that’s getting early raves, and I can’t wait to check it out!

I have already read and reviewed Untethered Sky by Fonda Lee, I loved it!

Jumping to the end, big thanks to Tor for finished copies of The Scourge Between Stars and Rubicon. Ugh, I can’t believe I haven’t read Rubicon yet. It’s coming, I swear!

I received a lovely hardcover edition of October Animals by Nicholas Day. This indie book comes out at the end of April, so I’ll be reviewing it soon. Thank you Nicholas!

And big thanks to Kevin Lucia from Crystal Lake Publishing for a copy of his novel, The Horror at Pleasant Brook. This story takes place around Halloween, and doesn’t come out until October, but I’m hoping to review it a little bit early.

Digital books for review:

I know it looks like a lot. I guess it is, lol. But these are all books I’ve featured on Future Fiction, so of course I want to read them!

I’m very excited to have Vampires of El Norte by Isabel Cañas. Western horror is one of my favorite subgenres, and this is getting great reviews so far.

Black Sheep by Rachel Harrison is another highly anticipated book! I’m going to catch up with Harrison’s backlist too, because  love her so much:-)

The September House by Carissa Orlando is a book I nearly featured on Future Fiction, but it got bumped for another book for some reason. Nevertheless, I think this sounds really good.

The next six books are all Tor downloads, as I couldn’t resist! First, Nestlings by Nat Cassidy has the best, creepiest cover ever, and it’s being comped to Rosemary’s Baby.

Of course I said “yes” to Devil’s Gun by Cat Rambo, book two in the series after You Sexy Thing. I can’t wait to see what adventures await these characters!

A Season of Monstrous Conceptions by Lina Rather. Rather wrote one of my favorite SF novella series, and I’m so curious to see what she does with horror.

I love the premise (and the cover!) of The Jinn-Bot of Shantiport by Samit Basu, so this was a no-brainer to download.

Wild Spaces by S.L. Coney is getting a lot of great buzz. Boy’s Life meets H.P. Lovecraft!!

The Water Outlaws by S.L. Huang also has a gorgeous cover and sounds amazing! I keep thinking I’ve read something by Huang before, but I don’t think I have.

Dead Eleven by Jimmy Juliano is a book I recently featured here, and I’m excited to read it because it sounds so different.

Finally, I’m looking forward to The Death I Gave Him by Em X. Liu, a horror/Hamlet retelling that sounds amazing!

Big thanks to Berkley, Tor, Dutton and Rebellion 😀

Do you have any of these books on your TBR?

I’m glad you mentioned Wyrd & Wonder, May is coming up soon and I need to start planning too:-)

  1. I look forward to trying Devil’s Gun. And I’m very curious about Jinn-bot and Thornhedge. So much to read here, Tammy! 🙂

  2. Oh my goodness! I trust you have plenty of reading time, Tammy – what a lot of really inviting books… I’ve also got a copy of Some Desperate Glory, which I’m hoping to get to very soon.

  3. Not quite sure which of these I’m looking forward to you reviewing the most, perhaps the Vampires of El Norte, or maybe The September House (because it seems intriguing), and then there’s Wild Spaces, which looks wonderfully weird. Hope you enjoy all these 😀

  4. Lovely haul of books. I’m so out of the picture with forthcoming books. I need to get visiting all your past posts and catch up on what’s due out.
    Lynn 😀
