What’s On My Plate – March 2023

March is an EPIC month for new SFF releases! I’m listing fifteen books I’d love to read, but there are many more that I don’t have review copies for. I won’t be able to read all of these this month, but I will try! Here are the books on my plate this month:

Full disclosure, the first three books are my most highly anticipated books of March. And the most most highly anticipated one is Infinity Gate by M.R. Carey. I have a physical review copy on the way, but I’m not sure when UPS is going to be able to get up to my house with all the snow, so I may dive into the eARC before it arrives.

Rubicon by J.S. Dewes is already getting tons of great reviews, and I can hardly wait to read the follow-up to her amazing duology The Divide.

Hel’s Eight by Stark Holborn is the sequel to the amazing Ten Low, and I am super excited to get back into that world!

I’m always up for a new Catriona Ward book, so I’m thrilled The Girl From Rawblood is being reissued from Poisoned Pen Press. This sounds like a dark, historical horror story, can’t wait!

A House With Good Bones by T. Kingfisher. Kingfisher is so prolific these days, thankfully for all her fans! This appears to be a gothic family story about a house that’s not quite right…

The Fairy Bargains of Prospect Hill by Rowenna Miller. I’m very much looking forward to reading another book from this author, and this sounds really good.

Moths by Jane Hennigan is a dystopian thriller that has some unique sounding elements, and I’m eager to try it:-)

Travel by Bullet by John Scalzi is the third book in his entertaining SF series.

I just received a copy of The Strange by Nathan Ballingrud, and it sounds so good. A “quest for revenge” that takes place on Mars!

I have quite a few novellas in my pile, and Feed Them Silence is one of them. This is getting some good reviews, and I’ll be reading it soon.

I’ve been hearing great things about Lone Women by Victor LaValle. This is yet another historical horror story.

Dead Country by Max Gladstone. It’s been a while since I’ve read Max Gladstone! This appears to be a spin-off series of Gladstone’s Craft Sequence, and the main character in this book is Tara Abernathy from Three Parts Dead. I’m so curious about this one!

The Mimicking of Known Successes by Malka Older is another novella, and is described as a murder mystery and sapphic romance set on Jupiter. Could be fun!

The Lies of the Ajungo by Moses Ose Utomi, is yet another novella that is getting great reviews.

Finally, Hospital by Han Song has some very low ratings on Goodreads (since I accepted a review copy). It makes me a little nervous, but I guess we’ll find out how it works for me!

Do we have any books in common this month? What is your most anticipated March book?

  1. Wow, just looked at your instagram photo of the snow and icicles. I haven’t seen snow like that since I lived in New England. I remember using icicles like popsicles. 🙂 Looks like you have lots of good reading to do while stuck at home. Hope all’s well!

  2. An amazing line-up for March – right now there are SO MANY awesome reads coming down the line! I hope you enjoy Travel By Bullet as much as I did. I listened to an audiobook version and thoroughly enjoyed it. And I also have Infinity Gate and am very much looking forward to getting to it – and have just nicked across and requested The Strange, having seen it in your listing:)). Thank you for sharing, Tammy:).

  3. wow, BIG plate!
Lots of prolific authors here. I’m like, what, already a new one, and I haven’t read the previous one they published and that I wanted to try!
Thanks for giving the Goodreads link for all these, so easy to check. I have opened 6 tabs, on my way to check now!
    Have fun with all these!

  6. I hope Infinity Gate works for you! I had high hopes for it, and was giddy when I got approved, but I ultimately DNF it. Not a bad book, only a bit on the hard-sci-fi side, plus I wasn’t vibing with the second lead.

I’ve read and loved a couple of Tchaikovsky novellas – maybe I’ll venture to read some of his other books as well, though they sound a bit too fantasy for my tastes.

  7. I was thinking Hospital had an interesting cover. I just accepted an egalley of a book that I found only low reviews on, but it still sounds good, so I’m going to give it a try, even with some misgivings like you have about that one. Hope you do end up enjoying all these and I’ll be watching for your reviews!
