Future Fiction #215 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

This week, I have three new books by three of my favorite authors, take a look:

A woman’s ability to see ghosts draws her into a journey of redemption and unexpected friendship in this unforgettable story from the acclaimed author of A Secret History of Witches.

Beatrice Bird is plagued by ghosts. It’s a gift she’s had since she was a small child. Unfortunately, it’s a gift that has grown more intense, shifting from flashes and feelings to physical manifestations she can’t escape.

In a desperate attempt for relief, Beatrice flees her home, her partner, and a psychology practice in San Francisco for a remote island with only nuns and a few cows for company. She sees as few people as she possibly can. She doesn’t call home. Then she meets Anne Iredale, a timid woman who has lost everything that matters to her.

For the first time in a long time, Beatrice’s gift will be called on to help someone in need. The path to healing awaits both of them—if Beatrice can find the courage to take the first step.

The Ghosts of Beatrice Bird by Louisa Morgan. Releases in November 2023 from Redhook. I love when I see a cover reveal for a book I didn’t even know about, it’s like getting two surprises in one:-) In case you don’t know, I adore Louisa Morgan’s books and I’m ecstatic about this new one. She usually writes about witches, so it will be fun to see how she tackles ghosts. I cannot wait!

From USA Today bestselling author T. Kingfisher, Thornhedge is an original, subversive fairytale about a kind-hearted, toad-shaped heroine, a gentle knight, and a mission gone completely sideways.

There’s a princess trapped in a tower. This isn’t her story.

Meet Toadling. On the day of her birth, she was stolen from her family by the fairies, but she grew up safe and loved in the warm waters of faerieland. Once an adult though, the fae ask a favor of Toadling: return to the human world and offer a blessing of protection to a newborn child. Simple, right?

If only.

Centuries later, a knight approaches a towering wall of brambles, where the thorns are as thick as your arm and as sharp as swords. He’s heard there’s a curse here that needs breaking, but it’s a curse Toadling will do anything to uphold…

Thornhedge by T. Kingfisher. Releases in August 2023 from Tor Books. This looks like a twisted Sleeping Beauty retelling, and coming from Kingfisher you just know it’s going to be different and amazing!

Combining the wonder of The Midnight Library , the inventiveness of Ready Player One, and the artistry of Cloud Atlas, this novel by the bestselling author of The Oracle Year and Anyone explores the way we’re all connected—and what can happen when we lose our capacity for joy.

A few years from now, in a world similar to ours, there exists a sort of “depression plague” that people refer to simply as “The Grey.” No one can predict whom it will afflict, or how, but once infected, there’s no coming back.

A young Hong Kong based scientist, Lily Barnes, is trying to maintain her inner light in an increasingly dark world. The human race is dwindling, and people fighting to push forward are increasingly rare. One day, Lily comes across something that seems to be addressing her directly, calling to her, asking her to follow a path to whatever lies at its end. Is this the Endless Vessel to happiness? She leaves her life behind and sets out through time and space to find out.

From its opening heart-stopping scene in the present day at the Louvre in Paris, through the earthly meetings between Lily and her loved ones past and present, to a shocking and satisfying conclusion in a truly enchanted forest, Charles Soule has channeled history, science and drama to create a story for the ages—a story of hope and love and possibility. This is a novel you will not soon forget.

The Endless Vessel by Charles Soule. Releases in May 2023 from Harper Perennial. I loved Soule’s two previous books (Anyone and The Oracle Year) and this caught me by surprise, because it was NOT on my radar until I caught the cover on Instagram. I am beyond excited, and I hope my NetGalley request is approved:-)

  1. The remote island with only nuns and a few cows for company in The Ghosts of Beatrice Bird doesn’t sound so bad, to be honest. Can I go and bring my books so I can actually get some reading done? lol

The synopsis of Thornhedge made me gasp out loud. Sleeping Beauty is one of my favorite fairy tales and I’ve been excited to read more by T. Kingfisher. I’ve only read What Moves the Dead so this is definitely going on my list!

The Endless Vessel sounds great as well. I hope you’ll end up enjoying it as much the author’s other books. The cover is very unique looking!
