Today it’s time to take a look at adult science fiction being released in 2023, and I think it’s going to be an outstanding year for SF. I’m highlighting my ten most anticipated books at this time (and only sharing books with final covers), but there are many more I can’t wait to read. The books are listed in order of release date (dates subject to change), and the titles are linked to Goodreads if you want to read the full description. Here we go!
The Terraformers by Annalee Newitz. Release date: January 31st. “The Terraformers is an equally heart-warming and thought-provoking vision of the future for fans of Becky Chambers, Kim Stanley Robinson, and Martha Wells.”
Wild Massive by Scotto Moore. Release date: February 7th. “Scotto Moore’s Wild Massive is a glorious web of lies, secrets, and humor in a breakneck, nitrous-boosted saga of the small rejecting the will of the mighty.”
The Strange by Nathan Ballingrud. Release date: March 21st. “1931, New Galveston, Mars: Fourteen-year-old Anabelle Crisp sets off through the wastelands of the Strange to find Silas Mundt’s gang who have stolen her mother’s voice, destroyed her father, and left her solely with a need for vengeance.”
Rubicon by J.S. Dewes. Release date: March 28th. “J. S. Dewes, author of The Last Watch and The Exiled Fleet, returns with another science fiction space opera, Rubicon, that melds elements of Scalzi’s Old Man’s War with Edge of Tomorrow.”
The Scourge Between Stars by Ness Brown. Release date: April 4th. “Ness Brown’s The Scourge Between Stars is a tense, claustrophobic sci-fi/horror blend set aboard a doomed generation ship harboring something terrible within its walls.”
Paradise-1 by David Wellington. Release date: April 4th. “When Special Agent Petrov and Dr. Lei Zhang are woken up from cryogenic sleep, dragged freezing and dripping wet out of their pods with the ship’s alarms blaring in the background, they know something is very wrong. Warned by the Captain that they’re under attack, they have no choice but to investigate.”
The Ferryman by Justin Cronin. Release date: May 2nd. “From the New York Times bestselling author of The Passage comes a riveting standalone novel about a group of survivors on a hidden island utopia–where the truth isn’t what it seems.”
Myriad by Joshua David Bellin. Release date: May 23rd. “Myriad has been in so many time streams she’s lost count – hiding from her feelings about her brother’s death she works to prevent crimes from happening but finds herself committing one instead… MYRIAD is a mind-bending time travelling sci-fi thriller that will keep readers guessing to the very end.”
More Perfect by Temi Oh. Release date: May 30th. “A reimagining of the Greek myth of Eurydice and Orpheus, for fans of Becky Chambers and William Gibson by Alex Award–winning author Temi Oh.”
The Deep Sky by Yume Kitasei. Release date: July 18th. “Yume Kitasei’s The Deep Sky is an enthralling sci-fi thriller debut about a mission into deep space that begins with a lethal explosion that leaves the survivors questioning the loyalty of the crew.”
Rubicon already caught my attention and I can’t wait for it to become available: even though I’m usually wary of comparisons with other stories, the idea of a mix between Old Man’s War and Edge of Tomorrow sounds very, very intriguing 🙂

I’m sure in J.S. Dewes’s hands it will be a lot of fun:-)
So many here I don’t know where to start. 🙂
LOL. It’s a little overwhelming:-)
More Perfect, Deep Sky, and The Terraformers are all books that I’m interested in… but really, these all look amazing!

Thanks Stormi:-)
Terraformers sounds just what I want right now. But half of the others are tempting, too, especially Myriad
I’m really excited for Myriad:-)
More Perfect is on my TBR too. I’m really curious how the retelling of Eurydice and Orpheus will play out in a scifi book!

Rubicon seems to be popping up all over at the moment – I hope it works out well.
Lynn 😀
I have no doubt, after I loved her last series so much.
After reading relatively little sci-fi in 2022, I’m excited to have a number of titles on my Most Anticipated List! VERY excited for Rubicon!

Me too! There’s going to be some good SF next year, I’m sure:-)
I didn’t read much sci fi this year so I’m excited to see these new offerings for 2023. The Ferryman sounds especially good to me!
