Intergalactic Book Tag 2022 #SciFiMonth

Artwork by Simon Fetscher

I did this tag last year and it was a lot of fun, so I thought I’d update it for 2022 with all new books! Of course my answers will all be science fiction books:-) Big thanks to Maddalena for putting this tag on my radar last year!

SPACE: NAME A BOOK THAT TAKES PLACE IN A WORLD OTHER THAN OUR OWN

Stringers by Chris Panatier is one of the strangest books I’ve read all year, that’s for sure. The worldbuilding is so unique, and I can’t think of a better book for this prompt!

BLACK HOLE: NAME A BOOK THAT COMPLETELY SUCKED YOU IN

Jackson Ford is the King of sucking you into a story, with his highly entertaining Frost Files. This year book #4 came out, A Sh*tload of Crazy Powers, and boy was it fun.

LIGHTSPEED: NAME A BOOK YOU ARE ANTICIPATING SO MUCH THAT YOU WISH YOU COULD TRAVEL AT LIGHTSPEED TO GET TO IT

A new M.R. Carey book is always exciting for me (and a bunch of other people I’m sure), so I am unbelievably impatient to get my hands on a copy of Infinity Gate!

NEBULA: NAME A BOOK WITH A BEAUTIFUL COVER

There’s something magical about the cover of Bluebird by Ciel Pierlot: the blue feathers and the mysterious glint of light. It’s simple but effective.

MULTIVERSE: NAME A COMPANION OR SPIN-OFF SERIES YOU LOVE

This is the second book in K. Eason’s spin-off of her Rory Thorne books, and I am probably reading Nightwatch Over Windscar right now!

GRAVITY: NAME YOUR FAVORITE ROMANTIC PAIRING THAT SEEMS TO HAVE A GRAVITATIONAL PULL TO EACH OTHER

I loved Glitterati so much, and that’s mostly due to Oliver K. Langmead’s main characters, Simone and Georgie, a married couple who lead very odd lives but are deeply in love.

THE BIG BANG: NAME THE BOOK THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON READING SCI-FI

I’m not sure if this is the exact book that got me into science fiction, but Hyperion by Dan Simmons remains one of my all time favorite SF books. I read it many years ago and I can remember exactly where I was when I read it.

ASTEROID: NAME A SHORT STORY OR NOVELLA THAT YOU LOVE

I’m loving Lina Rather’s Our Lady of Endless Worlds series, and earlier this year I read book #2, Sisters of the Forsaken Stars. I’m hoping there will be a third book at some point.

GALAXY: NAME A BOOK WITH MULTIPLE POVs

I just had to fit August Kitko and the Mechas from Space by Alex White into this tag, and it’s perfect for this multiple POV prompt. We get to meet wonderfully three dimensional characters Gus and Ardent, as well as the POV of a giant mecha named Greymalkin. This was such a unique story, and I can’t wait for the second book to be announced.

SPACESHIP: NAME A BOOK TITLE THAT WOULD BE A GREAT NAME FOR A SPACESHIP

Maybe not the most original space ship name, but I wanted to give a shout out to one of my favorite books of the year, Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel.

I’d love anyone who’s interested to do this tag as well!

I highly recommend Hyperion, Todd. It’s a four book series and the first two books are simply unforgettable.
