The Friday Face-Off: Horror

The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!

Ah, so many choices this week! I’ve decided to do a true face-off between two covers, only because the author shared the second cover on social media recently and I LOVE it. My book this week is Tidepool by Nicole Willson. If you love creepy, small town cosmic horror, you need to read this book.

The Parliament House Press, 2021. This is the original cover of the book, and it perfectly captures the cosmic horror elements with the tentacles, and the overall design suggests the 1913 time period the story is set in.

Spanish edition, 2022. For pure weirdness and creativity, this is my favorite of the two covers. If I could track down a copy of this edition, I would buy it in a heartbeat. Isn’t it cool?

Which cover is your favorite?

  1. Interesting how different they are, and yet they both seem to evoke both cosmic horror vibes and an older 1913 vibe. Not sure which I prefer, but I do enjoy the differences.

  2. I like the first cover myself, the second one is strange but I can see why some would like it. Maybe if I have read the book I might think differently.

The Spanish edition is creeping me out too much – maybe that shows it’s perfect?! But I love the original one personally.
