Over-Booked [158] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

It’ been a long week, so let’s do a book haul! Lol. I don’t have the energy to post anything else today. Tomorrow in my Buffy’s Corner post I’ll update you all on my weekend in Boston, which contributed to it being a long week (but fun!).

I have to say this is an awesome pile of books, and I’m looking forward to reading each one. This book haul is sponsored by Orbit and Tor!

Physical books for review:

First up, a treasure trove of Tor books:

A lovely finished copy of Just Like Mother by Anne Heltzel arrived, and I’ll probably start this today. The release date is next week.  And I’m so excited to have a finished copy of Black Tide by K.C. Jones. This comes out at the end of May, so I’ll be reviewing it this month for sure. Huge thanks to Tor NIghtfire for these two books:-)

With thanks to Tordotcom, I was thrilled to receive a surprise copy of Leech by Hiron Ennes. Described as Gothic horror/science fiction, I can hardly wait to check this out!

Finally from Tor, Just Like Home by Sarah Gailey arrived and I think I may have shrieked, lol. Gailey is one of the best and consistent writers around and I will devour anything they write. Thank you Tor!

And now another treasure trove of books from the kind folks at Orbit/Redhook!

Half A Soul by Olivia Atwater was a self-published book that Orbit acquired, and the trilogy will be released in quick succession in June, July and August. It sounds delightful!

You may have already caught my rave review of A Sh*tload of Crazy Powers by Jackson Ford, and I’m so happy to have a physical copy:-)

And last but not least, I received August Kitko and the Mechas From Space by Alex White, a July release that sounds like a ton of fun!

Huge thanks to Orbit for these review copies:-D

Digital books for review:

I was FINALLY approved for The Daughter of Doctor Moreau by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, I was getting worried! I requested it months ago, it seems.

As soon as Dead Water by C.A. Fletcher popped up, I immediately downloaded it (although I’m hoping for a physical copy at some point). Fletcher’s A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World is still one of my all time favorite books, and I can’t wait to see what he does next.

Finally, I couldn’t resist downloading Funeral Girl by Emma K. Ohland when it popped up as “read now” on NetGalley. I just featured it on Future Fiction and I think it sounds like a bunch of fun!

Big thanks to Del Rey, Redhook and Lerner/Carolrhoda Lab:-D

Are any of these books on your TBR?

  1. I have August Kitko on my list! And Funeral Girl doesn’t appear as “Read Now” for me…on the contrary, I can only see it as a “Wish for It” item, since I’m not in the US. Bummer. I don’t get these stupid rules.

I hope they’re all hits for you!

  2. I’m also looking forward to reading Leech, it sounds really interesting. Praise from Tade Thompson and comparisons to Jeff VanderMeer were guaranteed to pique my interest!

  3. will

Congrats on getting the Daughter of Doctor Moreau!! Do you even get rejected anymore? I feel like you shouldn’t, since you’ve hit the big time and all;)

Ha ha yes I get rejected. Del Rey is iffy for me so that’s why I was worried. And yeah, I’m definitely not the big time!

  4. A wonderful line-up, Tammy:)). I’ve also been lucky enough to get a copy of Half a Soul and I’m looking forward to reading this one. It looks like you have some wonderful reads for the coming hot weather.

  5. I also have a copy of Just Like Home and can’t wait to start it. I recently finished The Echo Wife and thoroughly enjoyed that one, so I’m hopeful I will this one, as well. I hope life slows down a bit for you now that you’re back home, though it can be nice to have these little exciting moments every so often. 🙂

  6. “Daughter of Doctor Moreau” – keeps grabbing my eye. I never got around to “Mexican Gothic,” so I feel disallowed to read DDM. Whomever is designing these covers is doing a great job. LOL

  7. Darn it, how is it possible Just Like Mother releases next week, where did the time go?! I had to pass on Black Tide because I just have too much on my plate but I hope you’ll love it!
