Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!
It’s been a couple of weeks since my last book haul, and I have a lot to share today. I usually don’t share my book purchases, but this week I have some good ones so check out the last part of my post below to see them. I do buy quite a few books, especially when I find small press authors I love. It’s nice to support them whenever I can. I also realized a lot of these books are sequels to series I’m reading, lol. Here are my latest book acquisitions!
Physical books for review:
Huge thanks to Orbit for the first two books! The Stardust Thief by Chelsea Abdullah is a May release that has been getting rave reviews already. And The Hunger of the Gods by John Gwynne is the sequel to The Shadow of the Gods, and I’m excited to read it!
I’m so excited to have a copy of Prison of Sleep by Tim Pratt, the sequel to Doors of Sleep. I’ll be reading it very soon! Huge thanks to Angry Robot for the review copy:-)
I’m also thrilled to have a copy of Locklands by Robert Jackson Bennett. I requested it but I honestly did not expect to get it, lol. Huge thanks to Del Rey!
From Tor I’m so happy to have copies of the following books: A Strange and Stubborn Endurance by Foz Meadows is one I’m quite curious about. This is a summer release so I probably won’t get to it right away.
January Fifteenth by Rachel Swirsky was a surprise arrival (my favorite!), and I couldn’t be happier to check this out this near future SF novella.
And finally, I’m so happy to have a finished copy of Comeuppance Served Cold by Marion Deeds. I’ve already read and reviewed this one, really fun! Thank you Tordotcom and Tor Books:-D
Digital books for review:
I will definitely be requesting a physical copy of A Sh*tload of Crazy Powers (Frost Files #4) from Orbit when it becomes available, but in the meantime I downloaded the eARC from NetGalley because I’d like to read this in April (it’s a May release). It’s seriously one of my favorite series, and Jackson Ford (or Rob Boffard as he’s also called) is hysterically funny.
Don’t Fear the Reaper (The Lake Witch Trilogy #2) by Stephen Graham Jones was bumped to February 2023, but NetGalley is already offering copies for some reason. I’m so curious about this sequel to My Heart is a Chainsaw!
Just Like Home by Sarah Gailey. I’ve enjoyed everything Gailey has written, and I’m betting I’ll love this too!
I will never miss a new book by Oliver K. Langmead, he’s one of my favorites! So I’m very happy to have a copy of his summer release, Glitterati.
Screams from the Dark: 29 Tales of Monsters and the Monstrous edited by Ellen Datlow sounds very good. Datlow is one of the best editors in the business, and the line-up looks fantastic.
Big thanks to Orbit, Gallery/Saga Press, Tor Books, Titan Books and Nightfire:-D
Recent purchases:
Everyone in the horror community has been talking about Eric LaRocca’s new book, You’ve Lost a Lot of Blood. So of course I had to buy a copy!
I completely forgot I preordered a signed copy of The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi from Subterranean Press, so it was a nice surprise when it showed up!
You guys know I love Alan Baxter, author of The Gulp and The Fall. Since I only had e-books, I decided to purchase both paperbacks. The Gulp just arrived, and The Fall will be out in a couple of weeks.
Finally, I absolutely love the UK cover of Sundial by Catriona Ward, so I ordered this special signed edition from Waterstones. You can’t see in the photo, but the page edges are bright orange!
As usual, it’s good to see you haven’t held back this week;)
Reading Prison of Sleep right now, I hope you like it! I have several of these and need to pick up several more. Thanks for the added weight to my TBR Tammy!!
Ha ha always happy to add to your TBR, Will;-)
Wow, that is quite the haul. I’m becoming more curious about The Stardust Thief. And this is a reminder how much I want to try the series’ behind Locklands and The Hunger of the Gods.
I’m hoping I get an early start on The Stardust Thief, it just sounds so good:-)
I love this selection! I recently read You’ve Lost a Lot of Blood. There were some editing misses, but the story is fabulous, and the way its told is brave (mosaic style, epistolary style).

I’m so curious about it. I know his books can be tough to read so I’m bracing myself first:-)
Wow!! There are so many books in there that I wish to read (and series that I want to continue!!). It really is a great haul!!!
Thanks Susy, I do have a lot of reading ahead of me, lol.
Impressive haul! Enjoy!

Wow, quite a haul! January Fifteenth’s cover is really calling to me — can’t wait to hear more about it!
I’m excited to read it:-)
Some interesting looking books! The Sundial book looks pretty!
It’s so pretty! The story isn’t so pretty, lol, but I do love this edition.
That’s a pretty awesome collection to add to your TBR, Tammy! Hope you enjoy these when you get around to them. 😀
Thanks Lashaan:-)
January Fifteenth! I am so excited about that one! The Sundial cover is gorgeous, and so different than the US! I am so excited to read it to see which one “fits” better. Just Like Home also sounds great, and you reminded me that I *really* need to read My Heart is a Chainsaw asap! Hope you enjoy these!

I’m dying to talk to someone about Sundial, I haven’t really read any fellow bloggers’ reviews. I hope you read it, it’s pretty unique!
I’ve read The Gulp recently and found it delightfully weird in a very unexpected way, and of course I’m as eager as you to start reading The Hunger of the Gods 🙂
