What’s On My Plate – April 2022

2022 continues to speed by us, and here we are in April already! I’m happy to say that my April TBR is actually manageable, compared to last month where I took on way too many books for review. And to help matters, I’ve already read two of my April books, one of which I reviewed last month (The Fall by Alan Baxter), as well as Stringers by Chris Panatier. Also, April must be the Month of the Novella, because I have SIX novellas on my list! Here are the books I hope to read and review in April:

One of my most anticipated books of the month, if not the year, is Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel. I honestly can’t believe I haven’t read it already!

Also high on my list of “most anticipated” is Prison of Sleep by Tim Pratt, the follow up to Doors of Sleep which I loved. Can’t wait!

The Girl Who Outgrew the World by Zoje Stage is another novella that I’m really looking forward to. I’ve had good luck with Stage’s novels and she’s become a must read author for me.

And Then I Woke Up by Malcolm Devlin is blurbed by Stephen Graham Jones and is about a plague that “affects how reality is perceived.” Sounds like fun!

Fevered Star by Rebecca Roanhorse is the sequel to Black Sun, which I loved. It’s already getting strong reviews on Goodreads.

I’ve already read Stringers by Chris Panatier and really enjoyed it. This book is CRAZY. I didn’t love as much as The Phlebotomist, but wow, Chris is such a talented writer, I will read anything he writes. I have an interview with him on April 7th, and of course I’ll be reviewing the book as well, probably somewhere around the release date.

I have lots of short books to read this month, including Nettle & Bone by T. Kingfisher. This sounds quite different from Kingfisher’s horror novels, so I’m very curious.

Spear by Nicola Griffith. This is an Arthurian retelling that sounds very good!

And yet another novella! Rosebud by Paul Cornell sounds really interesting. A locked room science fiction mystery that appears to be more on the literary side.

Gone Dark by Amanda Panitch is my only YA in the bunch, and now that I think about it, it’s been a while since I’ve read a YA. This appears to be a futuristic survivalist thriller, and I’m excited to try it.

The Hunger of the Gods by John Gwynne is the sequel to In the Shadow of the Gods, which I read last year and really enjoyed.

The Eater of Gods by Dan Franklin is also short and sounds really good! I’m happy to be reviewing a book for Cemetery Dance, a publisher I’ve admired for years.

And that’s my April TBR! Let me know if you plan to read any of these. What is your most anticipated book this month?
