The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: Spring forward – compare the covers of two books you’re excited about.
I love this prompt! I found two yet to be released books with both US and UK covers, so this will be a very easy comparison!
Flatiron edition (U.S.) | Picador edition (UK)
Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield sounds really good and sort of creepy. These covers are very different, and it’s hard to pick a favorite. But I really love the UK cover, which seems to be more in tune with the story. Winner: UK
Tor Books edition (U.S.) | Titan Books edition (UK)
Nettle & Bone by T. Kingfisher also has two covers, and once again, the publishers have taken very different directions. I do like the design of the Titan cover, but for this one I’m choosing the U.S. cover as my favorite. I love the glimpse of the figure, looking over her shoulder but unable to see her face. Winner: U.S.
I’m going with the US for Our Wives Under the Sea because there’s something delightfully incongruent with the delicate pink above the rough sea. Same with Nettle & Bone. That beautiful woman with the sharp, spiny greenery!

UK & US ssame! Also I hadn’t heard of that T.Kingfisher book before now!! Ahhh!
Oh man, I don’t like either cover for Our Wives Under the Sea, but I love both the covers for Nettle and Bone! If I had to choose I think I like the Titan one better!

I picked the UK cover for both. That first one is just a bizarre cover, and I like that. And there’s something about the design of the second I like.
The UK cover of Our Wives Under the Sea is awesome!
I like the UK versions!
I actually prefer the UK cover for both books. More evocative to me. Alas, unable to participate again this week.

Agreed with your choices for both! I tend to gravitate towards covers featuring people.
UK for both . Sorry! 🙂
Yep, I agree with both your choices and fantastic finding two books with differing covers.
