The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: A one word title.
This was a fun theme, and it didn’t take me long to find a book to highlight! Betty by Tiffany McDaniel was one of my favorite books of 2020, and since then it’s garnered a bunch of different editions and covers, take a look:
Knopf hardcover 2020 | UK edition 2021
Italian edition 2021 | Collector’s edition 2021
French edition 2022 | French edition 2020
I love the way all these editions use a similar color palette, which I believe is meant to evoke the setting. This is a tough story to encapsulate in a book cover, and for me the most successful ones are the the 2022 French edition, the Knopf hardcover and the UK edition. My favorite? I think I’m going to choose the UK edition, because I love the color, and I love that Betty is shown on the cover.
I, too, like the UK edition becasue of Betty’s picture on the front.

I really need to read this one! Thanks for sharing!
None of those are real appealing to me. 🙁 Maybe the French one.
There is something charming about the French 2022 edition.
I love the colors and the girl on the cover you picked, but the spacing of the lettering is really bugging me haha. So I think I would choose the French Edition

The first one honestly!
I like your choice, it seems more real somehow – probably not very well described on my part. I also like the Knopf – the colours are great.
Lynn 😀
I think I like the colors more than I like the actual imagery! Such a nice collage when they’re put together like that!
