Over-Booked [155] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

Lots of books to share this week, let’s get right to it!

Physical books for review:

The first four books are from the always generous Tor. First, Drunk on All Your Strange New Words by Eddie Robson was a surprise arrival, and I’m excited because I really enjoyed Robson’s debut, Hearts of Oak. This time the author is tackling a sci-fi locked room mystery. Can’t wait!

I was thrilled to receive a copy of Nettle & Bone by T. Kingfisher. So far I’ve only read her horror books, so this will be my first fantasy:-)

I’m very happy to have this beautiful copy of The Way Spring Arrives, a collection of short fantasy and SF stories by Chinese female and non-binary authors. What a fabulous idea! This is already out, so I’m going to start reading this alongside my current novel.

From Tor Nightfire, I was excited to receive a finished copy of Dark Stars edited by John. F.D. Taff, a collection of twelve “all new” novelettes from both popular and up-and-coming authors. Stephen Graham Jones and Alma Katsu are two that caught my eye. This comes out later this month so I’m going to start this soon.

From the wonderful Angry Robot Books, I’m very excited to have a copy of The Circus Infinite by Khan Wong. I just participated in the blog tour, and in fact I’m currently running a giveaway of the book, so check it out if you live in the U.S.!

I’ve been getting review pitches from Cemetery Dance, although I’m not sure how I ended up on their email list. But I’m not complaining! I’ve been a fan of this small publisher for years, and I’m curious to start reading some of their upcoming releases. They sent The Eater of Gods by Dan Franklin, a horror novella with Egyptian gods!

I received a beautiful finished copy of Blood Scion by Deborah Falaye, which I need to squeeze in soon.

And last but not least, I’m very happy to have A Prayer for the Crown-Shy by Becky Chambers, the second book in her Monk & Robot series.

Huge thanks to Tor Books, Tordotcom, Nightfire, Angry Robot, Cemetery Dance and HarperTeen for these lovely books:-)

Digital books for review:

I’ve been trying to keep my “request” finger under control, but obviously haven’t been doing a very good job of that, lol.

I’ve had my eye on Black Tide by K.C. Jones since the cover reveal, and I finally caved and downloaded a copy from NetGalley. “Cujo meets A Quiet Place.” Sounds like fun!

Locklands by Robert Jackson Bennett is the final book in his Founders Trilogy, and I’m very curious to see how he wraps up this imaginative story.

The Devil Takes You Home by Gabino Iglesias sounds so good. I am auto approved for this publisher on NetGalley and that’s very dangerous. I’ve been passing this over but I finally caved and downloaded it, ha ha.

Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield is more of a literary horror novel, but I need something different so I requested it. I think it sounds so good!

I recently reviewed Hunt the Stars by Jessie Mihalik, and now I have a copy of the sequel, Eclipse the Moon. Mihalik’s sci-fi is a lot of fun:-)

I was offered a copy of Future Artifacts by Kameron Hurley, an upcoming short story collection from Apex Books. It’s been years since I’ve read anything by the author, so I thought I’d give this a try. (linked to the publisher’s website because it’s not on Goodreads)

And last but not least, From Bad to Cursed by Lana Harper is actually a sequel, but it can be read as a standalone. Like I said, I’m craving books out of my normal wheelhouse and this sounds like fun.

Big thanks to Nightfire, Del Rey Books, Mulholland Books, Picador, Harper Voyager, Apex Books and Berkley:-D

Do any of these look interesting to you?

  1. I’ve seen a few of these but most are new to me. I suppose once Locklands is released I’ll no longer be able to use the excuse of an unfinished trilogy for my not having started the series yet. I should start thinking of a new excuse. 🙂

  2. I get it. I went through all the review offers in my email since I mostly do eARCs and now I have very little open slots through June! April was fairly open but then I got a box of books in the post and feel like I want to read and review some of them.

You’ve been trying to get your requests under control, eh;) Well, you’re not any better than I am at it Tammy—there are 15 books here!

You know… actually, that’s quite impressive for one week!!

Ha ha luckily this isn’t a week’s worth of acquired books, but more like three week’s worth:-)
