Over-Booked [154] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

I’m not sure what happened, but I’ve been very lucky in the book mail department lately. I think Spring publishing is in full promotion mode, since a lot of these titles are coming out in the next few months. I’m excited for all of these, take a look:

Physical books for review:

With huge thanks to Titan Books, I received three highly anticipated Spring releases! I’m probably most excited for The Shadow Glass by Josh Winning, a book described as perfect for fans of Labyrinth, The Dark Crystal, and The Neverending Story. I can’t wait!

Pennyblade by J.L. Worrad is another book I’m very curious about. I fell hard for this cover when I saw it, and I believe it’s a March release so I hope to read it soon.

And I’ve already read Stars and Bones by Gareth L. Powell and loved it! I’m actually on the blog tour and my stop is Monday. Stop by to read my review, and I also have a giveaway of the book, courtesy of the publisher! Don’t miss it:-)

And from the incomparable Tor, I received three extremely exciting ARCs. First Seasonal Fears by Seanan McGuire is the companion novel to Middlegame, which was a big hit for me. I’m super excited to see how she continues the story.

And I may have screamed when I open the package and saw a copy of Book of Night by Holly Black! I hadn’t realized how short this book is, though (around 300 pages), so now I’m very curious to start it.

And finally from Tor Nightfire, And Then I Woke Up by Malcolm Devlin. This is a horror novella “in the tradition of Mira Grant and Stephen Graham Jones.” I don’t really need to know anything else…

Huge thanks to Titan Books and Tor for these books:-D

All four of these books were surprises, something I don’t see much anymore! Sent from Starscape, which I believe is a Macmillan imprint, is Kelcie Murphy and the Academy of the Unbreakable Arts. This is a middle grade story that comes out in a week or so, and because I don’t usually review MG, I may not get to this one. But it sure sounds good!

From Tordotcom, I received Second Spear by Kerstin Hall, which is the sequel to The Border Keeper, which I have not read, so if I can track down a copy of the first book, I may check this out.

I was thrilled to receive a copy of Rosebud by Paul Cornell, a very short novella that is described as a locked room mystery. I can’t wait!

And from Flatiron, I was excited to find out I had won an Instagram giveaway, a “surprise” ARC, which turned out to be Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney. This will be my first Alice Feeney and I can’t wait to see what all the buzz is about.

Digital books for review:

I loved Rebecca Roanhorse’s Black Sun a couple of years ago, and the sequel Fevered Star comes out this year. Isn’t this cover gorgeous?

And I’ve had a copy of The Hourglass Throne by K.D. Edwards for a few weeks but forgot to share it last time. This is book three in Edward’s The Tarot Sequence, a projected nine book series. I can’t wait to dive back into this amazing world!

Thank you Gallery/Saga Press and Pyr Books:-D

Are you planning to read any of these books?

I hope to do that someday too. It’s hard to break away from books from publishers, but maybe one day:-)

  1. will

That’s part of a NINE book series?? I thought it was a trilogy and figured that skipping it would be okay—nine is going to be a lot harder! Well, let me know if I need to pick up the series sooner rather than much later!

It’s three trilogies that are all connected, so I think there’s an arc for each trilogy. It sounds really ambitious!

  2. I love MG fantasy that takes place at a magic school, so I’ll look up that Kelcie Murphy and the Academy of the Unbreakable Arts on Goodreads. I like the cover too.
