Most Anticipated Books of 2022 – First Quarter

I’m linking up with Top Ten Tuesday. Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish and is now hosted by Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl. Check out upcoming Top Ten themes on Jana’s blog!

I love the start of the new year when it comes to sharing my TBR, because there are SO many amazing sounding books to look forward to! Here we are in the first quarter of 2022, and as is my custom with these posts, I will share my top five most anticipated books for the months of January, February and March. Of course there are many other books I can’t wait to read, but I don’t want to overwhelm you with too many choices, so keeping the list to five a month seems to work best.

And at the end of this post, you can see how I did last quarter. I’ll highlight the books that were on my Fourth Quarter 2021 list and show how many I actually read.

January 2022 – Most anticipated

I have already had the pleasure of reading Deep Dive by Ron Walters, and boy was it fun! Fast-paced and mystery-laden, it sort of reminded me of The Matrix in some ways. This is one you don’t want to miss if you love sci-fi thrillers.

Goliath by Tochi Oneybuchi. I think the format of this story sounds interesting, and I’m curious to see Onyebuchi’s follow-up to Riot Baby.

Such a Pretty Smile by Kristi DeMeester. I see a lot of good horror coming my way in 2022, and this is one of the first horror books I’ll be reading. Can’t wait!

Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves by Meg Long. Last year I barely read any YA at all, I’ve been so disappointed by most of the YA I’ve tried. But I’m hearing good things about this one, and for that reason it’s made my list for January!

Devil House by John Darnielle. And here’s another horror title for January that I can’t wait to read. Darnielle published a book last year called Universal Harvester that didn’t get very good reviews, so I’m a little hesitant. But I love stories that incorporate true crime, so I’m taking a chance:-)

February 2022 – Most Anticipated

February is an incredible month! It was very hard to narrow my list to five books, and you’ll see many other February releases on this blog next month. While January is mostly new-to-me/debut authors, I’m reading releases by some of my favorite authors in February.

I’m a big Rob Hart fan, so of course I’m excited about his new book The Paradox Hotel!

Lina Rather returns to her incredible world in this sequel to Sisters of the Vast Black. Sisters of the Forsaken Stars follows the further adventures of the Order of Saint Rita, and I am there for it!

Louisa Morgan is a longtime favorite author, and I think I’ve read all of her books. So of course I’ll be reading her latest historical “witch” story, The Great Witch of Brittany.

Probably my number one book for the month is Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes, a book I’ve been anticipating for months. It’s getting awesome reviews, too!

Finally, Jessie Mihalik begins a new sci-fi/romance series this year with series opener Hunt the Stars. I’m am beyond excited to dive in!

March 2022 – Most Anticipated

March looks like another strong month, starting with The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi. Scalzi incorporates real life (Covid-19) into his near future science fiction adventure.

I’ve been hearing good things about The Circus Infinite by Khan Wong, and I’m curious to check out his debut!

I was attracted to the cover of The Shadow Glass at first, but then realized the story sounds pretty amazing too. This will be my second book by author Josh Winning, and I’m excited!

I’m not sure I’ll be able to wait until March to read Sundial by Catriona Ward, I’m so anxious to read another of her books after loving The Last House on Needless Street.

And last but not least, after a three year wait, Anne Bishop continues her wonderful urban fantasy series The World of the Others with Crowbones. I have not yet been approved for this and I’m very anxious about that…

And now let’s take a look back at the fourth quarter of 2021. I started strong but ended up pretty weak, lol. Oh well!

Do you have any quarterly goals? Which books are you mostly excited to read in the first quarter of 2022?

  1. Oh my, how many interesting books!! The one I am really really waiting for is the Anne Bishop’s one, but I really hope this year would be the year in which I’ll read Sisters of the Vast Black!!

  2. will

10/15? I know you’re disappointed, but that’s a great season for me! Engines of Empire, Dead Silence, Age of Ash, and Seven Deaths of an Empire are probably my highest anticipated releases through March. I’m glad you have at least one of them on your own list! I hope you like all of them!!

  3. The book I’m most excited about and most likely to read is Sisters of the Forsaken Stars, which I have on pre-order. I like many elements of the cover for Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves, and yet it’s the cover that leaves me suspcious I might not enjoy it. Strange how that sometimes works.

Interesting. Well, I am definitely planning on reading it, so I’ll let you know if the cover matches the story:-)

  4. I’m very impressed at your ability to just list five for each month! I’m really excited for Devil House, and Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves was surprisingly enjoyable for me! I think it really stood apart from the general YA fare, whcih was a nice change. I loved the concept behind The Paradox Hotel as well. I forgot Louisa Morgan’s new book was coming out so soon! Honestly, I’m excited for pretty much all of these (especially the new Catriona Ward!), so I should probably stop calling out individual titles, haha.
I think you did a great job on your fourth quarter, congrats! 🙂

These are just my top five for each month, I have more that I’m excited about, but it’s a challenge to narrow it down:-)

  5. I’m definitely excited for Kaiju! The Wolf book for January looks really interesting. I’m trying not to request any more new books right now beyond those already in my queue… but it’s always tempting. And I do want to read The Paradox Hotel at some point too!

    • Tammy

I always try that to, to limit requests to books I’ve already added to my TBR. It’s so hard…

  6. Dead Silence and Forsaken Stars- yes please. and PAradox Hotel also. The Long book seems to be getting buzz, and Kaiju has me curious as well. I think I’ll be reading lots of SFF early this year!

  7. It’s going to be a good year in books! I am excited about The Great Witch of Brittany but have to temper my excitement because I want to read some of Morgan’s earlier work first. It sounds like a stand alone but from the description, but I got the impression it is connected to other books? I do want to read it though! And yes to Crowbones!

I’m not sure if The Great Witch of Brittany is connected, but I recommend any of her previous books, I really enjoy her storytelling style:-)

  8. I’ll have to look a couple of these up as I hadn’t seen them before. I also seriously need to read Anne Bishops books really hope all of these live up to your expectations.

  9. I did a similar post to you this week. I wanted to do the TTT but I realised that I wanted to show more than 10 books without making two posts, so I felt like I was cheating a bit but it was in a good cause. So many great books to look forward to this year.
    Lynn 😀

  10. I have a few of these are my TBR already, but a lot of these were new to me. Probably because I don’t gravitate towards horror books (but do enjoy dark fantasies). Thanks for sharing!

  11. Yet another list of wonderful books! Woe to my (already struggling) TBR. Cold the Night, Fast the Wolves sounds absolutely fantastic, and I’ve added that to my list. I’m really excited for The Paradox Hotel, too! I thought of you when I saw it pop up, since it sounded like something you’d like, so I’m glad to see it’s on your radar. :3 Here’s to hoping you get to read all of these and enjoy them!
