Over-Booked [151] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

This will be my last book haul post of 2021, and I still can’t wrap my head around the fact that New Year’s is only two weeks away! In any case, I received a few highly anticipated 2022 releases and I actually won some books! Take a look:

Physical books for review:

Kicking off with books from publishers for review. First off, I’m thrilled to receive a copy of Sundial by Catriona Ward thanks to Tor Nightfire! It’s one of my most highly anticipated 2022 releases. I’ll be reading this prior to the March release date for sure!

Thanks to Tor Books, I received this gorgeous hardcover of The Starless Crown by James Rollins. This is an early January release, and I’m hoping to start it soon.

From the Orbit/Redhook team, I can’t wait to start Wild and Wicked Things by Francesca May. This is a historical fantasy filled with magic and witchcraft, and it really does sound good:-)

And big thanks to David Barclay who sent me a copy of The Maker’s Box, a self-published horror novella which comes out next March. There isn’t a Goodreads listing yet, but it sounds good!

And now for some giveaway wins, which always seem to come in bunches:-) First up, I won a copy of Our Crooked Hearts in an Instagram giveaway that author Melissa Albert was hosting. She signed the ARC too!

Courtesy of the wonderful hosts of SciFiMonth, I won a science fiction book of my choice, and it wasn’t hard to choose. I’ve always wanted to read Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky, so I figured this was the perfect time to get my own copy. Now to find time to read it!

The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas showed up unexpectedly, and I think I entered this giveaway through the Self Awareness Pro newsletter. I’m thrilled to have this, as this is from a publisher that doesn’t usually send me review copies.

Finally, I received the paperback copy of Ready Player Two by Ernest Cline from Mogsy at The Bibliosanctum during a SciFiMonth giveaway! I’m excited to have this gorgeous copy, and I hope to squeeze this in soon:-)

Big thanks to Melissa Albert, the SciFiMonth crew, Berkley Books and The Bibliosactum:-D

Digital books for review:

First up, two eARCs from the very generous Caroline at Angry Robot: I’m unbelievably happy to have an early copy of Stringers by Chris Panatier! It doesn’t come out until April but it’s one I’ll be reading very soon. Likewise, I’m so happy to have a copy of Mercury Rising by R.W.W. Greene. I just featured him in my Ten New To Me Authors I Read in 2021, and I’m eager to read more of his work.

I was just approved for Hide by Kiersten White. This thriller sounds intense, and I’m in love with the cover.

Pennyblade by J.L. Worrad has another excellent cover, and it sure sounds good on paper. Hopefully the story will live up to the cover!

I’m participating in the blog tour for Deep Dive by Ron Walters next month, and I may be getting a physical copy of the book, but I wanted to download the eARC to start reading it early. I’ve been hearing awesome things so far!

Thank you to Caroline and Angry Robot, Titan Books and Del Rey Books:-D

Are you planning to read any of these books?

  1. I’m a little over 100 pages into The Starless Crown and so far I’m thoroughly enjoying it. Keeping my fingers crossed that continues after we finish getting introduced to each of the main characters. Children of Time in another I’d really like to read, and likely will.

  2. Great haul!
yes, I want to try Adrian Tchaikovsky one day.
I have loved Ready Player Two about as much as Ready Player One. But I highly suggest to listen to it instead. The narrator is fabulous. Ready Player One is actually my favorite audiobook of all times, thanks to the excellent Wil Wheaton.

  3. Will

I got Hide and RP2 too! Hopefully going to find time to read them soon! But first I need to finish Empire of the Vampire I hope you like Children of Time (and don’t mind giant spiders)!

  4. I got Hide this week too! I loved Ready Player Two, but like with the first one, I listened to the audiobook. Which I highly recommend as Wil Wheaton is the narrator! Hope you enjoy all your new books! I ended up DNFing the James Rollins book, not because it was bad or anything, but because I just can’t seem to get into that high fantasy, especially adult high fantasy, these days.

Thanks! And if Sundial is anything like her last book, there will be some psychological thriller aspects as well.
