I read my first John Gwynne book this year, the first book in this series (The Shadow of the Gods), and I was so happy to see this cover revealed earlier in the week. And what a cover! I’m eager to jump back into this fantastic fantasy world.

The Devil Takes You Home by Gabino Iglesias. Releases in August 2022 from Mulholland Books. It was the cover that originally caught my eye, but then the comparison to S.A. Cosby, Stephen Graham Jones and Sylvia Moreno-Garcia sealed the deal. This sounds like crime noir with a hint of the supernatural, and I’m very curious!

I didn’t care enough for The Shadow of the Gods to have much interest in the sequel, but Book of Night has been calling to me.

I like the covers for John Gwynne’s books. They’re definately sticking to a design that works (at least for me). I look forward to trying the series.

I’ve vowing to read The Shadow of the Gods before the new one comes out. Too many books stayed on my shelf unread this year. 🙁 I’m super excited to read the Holly Black book. I can’t wait to see what she does with an adult story.
