Future Fiction #154 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Today I have two exciting cover reveals and another “catch up” from SciFiMonth, and can we all just appreciate the bold colored covers this week?

Ben isn’t exactly a genius, but he has an immense breadth of knowledge. Whether it’s natural science (specifically the intricacies of bug sex), or vintage timepieces, he can spout facts and information with the best of experts. He just can’t explain why he knows any of it. Another thing he knows is the location of the Chime. What it is or why it’s important, he can’t say.

But this knowledge is about to get him in a whole heap of trouble, as a trash-talking, flesh construct bounty hunter is on his tail and looking to sell him to the highest bidder. And being able to describe the mating habits of Brazilian bark lice won’t be enough to get him out of it.

Stringers by Chris Panatier. Releases in April 2022 from Angry Robot. I’m so happy to see the final cover of Chris’ next book! You all know I go on and on about The Phlebotomist whenever I have the chance, so this is really something to celebrate. Don’t you love this cover?

“Come home.” Vera’s mother called and Vera obeyed. In spite of their long estrangement, in spite of the memories — she’s come back to the home of a serial killer. Back to face the love she had for her father and the bodies he buried there.

Coming home is hard enough for Vera, and to make things worse, she and her mother aren’t alone. A parasitic artist has moved into the guest house out back, and is slowly stripping Vera’s childhood for spare parts. He insists that he isn’t the one leaving notes around the house in her father’s handwriting… but who else could it possibly be?

There are secrets yet undiscovered in the foundations of the notorious Crowder House. Vera must face them, and find out for herself just how deep the rot goes.

Just Like Home by Sarah Gailey. Releases in July 2022 from Tor Books. A new Sarah Gailey book is always exciting, and wow this sounds so good! Also bonus points for a creepy cover. Can’t wait!

A high-stakes hide-and-seek competition turns deadly in this dark thriller from New York Times bestselling author Kiersten White.

The challenge: spend a week hiding in an abandoned amusement park and don’t get caught.

The prize: enough money to change everything.

Even though everyone is desperate to win—to seize their dream futures or escape their haunting pasts—Mack feels sure that she can beat her competitors. All she has to do is hide, and she’s an expert at that.

It’s the reason she’s alive, and her family isn’t.

But as the people around her begin disappearing one by one, Mack realizes this competition is more sinister than even she imagined, and that together might be the only way to survive.

Fourteen competitors. Seven days. Everywhere to hide, but nowhere to run.

Come out, come out, wherever you are.

Hide by Kiersten White. Releases in May 2022 from Del Rey. This sounds so different from White’s other books, and I can’t wait to read it. I love the idea of a group of people hiding in an abandoned amusement park.

Oh my, Just Like Home and its cover gives me the creeps (so much) but at the same time, I kind of adore whoever put this cover together: the bright pink, and the bloody house and that’s other than the text. If I saw this in a store, I would not be able to take my eyes off it.

  2. It’s fascinating how each cover has such a central solid color in its design. I like the sound of the stories, too, but I guess it was the covers that really caught my attention this time. 🙂

  3. TAMMY you always have the scoop on the most exciting new books, is this some kind of sorcery!? I think it is! Literally now have 3 goodreads tabs open- and I didn’t even bother reading the Sarah Gailey synopsis before adding it (and YES to the covers- especially that one!) As always, thank you THANK YOU for sharing and expanding my TBR
