Over-Booked [150] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

Happy Saturday everyone! This is my book haul from the last three weeks, and I can’t wait to dive into these.

Tor has been extremely generous lately, and I have them to thank for most of these books! Starting off with one of my most highly anticipated March books, The Kaiju Preservation Society by John Scalzi. I was surprised how short this book is, for some reason I was expecting a longer book, lol.

Next up is The Bone Orchard by Sara A. Mueller. Really looking forward to this dark, Gothic mystery involving a witch!

I’m thrilled to have a copy of The City of Dusk by Tara Sim, a dark fantasy coming out from Orbit next March.

I received a finished copy of Star Mother by Charlie N. Holmberg from 47North, although this was unsolicited and I’m not a huge fan of the author, so it’s doubtful I will get to this one. Let me know if you’ve read it, though, and maybe I will!

The next four books are all Tordotcom novellas! Kundo Wakes Up by Saad Z. Hossain was not on my radar, but I did find out it’s not a sequel, but a standalone, so now I am very interested in reading it.

Spear by Nicola Griffith is an Arthurian mythology retelling, and it’s getting some good reviews already.

Until the Last of Me by Sylvain Neuvel is the second book in the Take Them to the Stars series. This is an alternate history science fiction story that’s hard to describe, but I really enjoyed the first book!

And last but not least, Tordotcom was kind enough to send an ARC of Comeuppance Served Cold by Marion Deeds. This is a fantasy noir set in the 1920s, and it sounds fantastic!

Huge thanks to Tor Books, Tordotcom, 47North and Orbit:-D

Digital books for review:

I’m so excited for all four of these 2022 releases. First up: Sundial by Catriona Ward. This is her follow-up to The Last House on Needless Street, which I loved.

You never see “placeholder” covers here on my blog, I firmly believe in only talking about books after the cover has been revealed. But I couldn’t help downloading Book of Night by Holly Black when it popped up on NetGalley. And the cover hasn’t been revealed yet, so…

Our Crooked Hearts by Melissa Albert. One of my rabbit covers, lol. I actually just won an ARC from the author over on Instagram, and right after my NetGalley request was approved. I think this sounds like lots of fun.

And I was so happy to be approved for Curfew by Jayne Cowie. This was one of my SciFiMonth Future Fiction picks, and I can’t wait to read it!

Big thanks to Nightfire, Tor, Flatiron and Berkley!

Are you planning on reading any of these books?

I did read Star Mother and was surprised to really like it. “A lovely, lovely book … there was no part where I was bored or annoyed.” Lol I suck at reviews. I have Comeuppance Served Cold on pre-order, so I will look forward to your review.

I guess somehow I missed it when you featured Curfew, but it’s now on my TBR! Gee, I’d hate to be tagged. It’d probably clash with all my outfits. But at least it’d give a good excuse to go to bed early;)

  3. I like the cover for The City of Dusk, so I’m curious about that one. And I enjoy Arthurian tales so Spear might work well, too. But somehow I suspect those won’t be the only two I become interested in. 🙂
