Intergalactic Book Tag #SciFiMonth

ARTWORK by Liu Zishan from 123RF.com

I didn’t have a post scheduled today so I’m throwing up a book tag at the last minute. I know GASP I rarely do book tags! This one sounded fun. I saw this recently on Maddalena’s blog and it’s perfect for SciFiMonth. Also, I’m using science fiction books as the answers to all the prompts, just to make it a little harder. And it gives me another excuse to talk about some of my favorite books! Most of these are recent reads, and I’ve linked my reviews if you’re interested. Here we go!

SPACE: NAME A BOOK THAT TAKES PLACE IN A WORLD OTHER THAN OUR OWN

Obviously I had a lot to choose from for this prompt. But a book that immediately came to mind was Stormblood by Jeremy Szal. The story takes place on an asteroid and is set pretty far in the future. My next read is going to be the sequel Blindspace, and I can’t wait!

BLACK HOLE: NAME A BOOK THAT COMPLETELY SUCKED YOU IN

“Sucked” me in is appropriate for this book, which you’ll understand if you’ve ready it;-) Anyway, The Phlebotomist by Chris Panatier was one of the best books I read last year, part sci-fi part horror and completely amazing.

LIGHTSPEED: NAME A BOOK YOU ARE ANTICIPATING SO MUCH THAT YOU WISH YOU COULD TRAVEL AT LIGHTSPEED TO GET TO IT

I’m actually lucky enough to have a copy of Dead Silence by S.A. Barnes already, but I am beyond excited to start it! This is a January release and I may sneak it in early.

NEBULA: NAME A BOOK WITH A BEAUTIFUL COVER

I could stare at Sisters of the Forsaken Stars by Lina Rather all day! I adore this cover, and I’m excited to read it.

MULTIVERSE: NAME A COMPANION OR SPIN-OFF SERIES YOU LOVE

I was having a hard time coming up with a book for this, but then I thought, duh I just read the first book in a spin-off series! Nightwatch on the Hinterlands by K. Eason is a spin-off of The Thorne Chronicles series, and it’s so good!

GRAVITY: NAME YOUR FAVORITE ROMANTIC PAIRING THAT SEEMS TO HAVE A GRAVITATIONAL PULL TO EACH OTHER

So, science fiction and romance don’t usually go together. You’re more likely to find romance in a fantasy book. But then I thought, why not go for an unconventional romance? S.T. the crow and Dennis the bloodhound have more of a bromance in Hollow Kingdom by Kira Jane Buxton, but I think it works:-)

THE BIG BANG: NAME THE BOOK THAT GOT YOU STARTED ON READING SCI-FI

The Stand by Stephen King is more horror or fantasy than sci-fi, but it is an apocalyptic tale so I think it counts. True story: the original 1978 hardcover edition of The Stand is the first book I bought with my own money, and it started me on my Stephen King journey.

ASTEROID: NAME A SHORT STORY OR NOVELLA THAT YOU LOVE

I had to choose Sisters of the Vast Black by Lina Rather, the first book in the series (see the second book above), because it’s one of my favorites. Nuns aboard a living, sentient spaceship who wants to mate (the spaceship, not the nuns)

GALAXY: NAME A BOOK WITH MULTIPLE POVs

The Book of Koli by M.R. Carey goes back and forth between two main points of view, and the whole series is amazing. Highly recommended if you love post apocalyptic settings and fantastic characters.

SPACESHIP: NAME A BOOK TITLE THAT WOULD BE A GREAT NAME FOR A SPACESHIP

OK, kind of cheating for this one because You Sexy Thing is the name of the spaceship in You Sexy Thing by Cat Rambo, my current read (which is a lot of fun, by the way!)

Not tagging anyone, but I hope some of you join me!

  1. I love that you included both of Lina Rather’s novellas! Can’t wait to read Sisters of the Forsaken Stars, and I agree about that cover. Too funny, the bromance between S.T. and Dennis, but it does work. 🙂

Right? I also thought of those ships in John Scalzi’s The Interdependency series, they had such funny names!

So many books to add to my TBR! I especially want to read Sisters of the Vast Black, I keep hearing amazing things!
