My favorite month of the year is finally here! I decided to do some digging in the old blog archives to see when I started participating in this event, and if I’m correct, this is the eighth year I’ll be joining in! Way back in 2014, this event had different hosts and was called “Sci Fi November,” but the heart of the event is still the same: to celebrate science fiction in all its many forms.
My focus this year is pretty much the same as last year: try to read and review as many SF books as I can, post some fun lists of upcoming SF books, and turn my usual weekly memes into “Sci-Fi Only” memes. I’m also hosting a giveaway at the end of the month per usual. I do have a couple of non SF review books that I’ll be reading, and I won’t list those here, but don’t be surprised when I sneak a few of those in as well.
Here is what you can expect this month:
The books:
I have a fantastic selection of SF books to read this month, and many of these are actually going to be released in November, so it works out well. I’ve already started Nightwatch on the Hinterlands (or may be finished by the time this goes live) and it’s fantastic! I’m not going to link these to Goodreads, but feel free to check them out if you’d like more information, and if all goes as planned, I’ll have reviews for all of them.
Lists:
Twelve Adult Science Fiction Books to Read in 2022
Twelve Young Adult Science Fiction Books to Read in 2022
Best Science Fiction of 2021 So Far
Memes:
Future Fiction – Three new SF books each Wednesday
The Friday Face-Off – A SF Book to be featured each Friday
Giveaway:
At the end of the month, I’ll be choosing two international winners to receive a science fiction book of their choice. Usually I ask that you pick from any of the books I’ve talked about during the month, but I’m switching things up and the winners can choose whatever they want. I’ll post the full rules in my wrap-up post, so don’t miss it!
Are you participating in Sci Fi Month? What are you most excited to read/watch/play?
I loved Nightwatch! Such a creative magic system and book in general; great blend of genres too, it read like a sci-fi urban fantasy. Really enjoyed Far From the Light of Heaven as well. You’re up for a great month, excellent tbr.
I’m not participating myself but I will definitely be reading all of your posts to see what sci fi books I need to add to my TBR. I think I’ve only read one or two titles this year so far.
I’m so jealous you get to read Elder Race, it doesn’t have a release date for the UK and I couldn’t find it on NetGalley at all! It sounds so good! Also want to see what you think of the new Tade Thompson because I keep hearing good things about it. Happy reading!
Have you tried requesting books from the US Netgalley? I didn’t realize it, but you can actually use the same password to sign in to either (I think). I sometimes go over to netgalley UK when a book only has a UK release date, and I’ve been approved a couple of times. netgalley.com Good luck!
I’ve been able to request US books when someone sends a specific link but I’ve never tried logging into the US website any other time… I’m going to try that now, thanks! (Not that I need any more books )
Happy Scifi Month! I’m not planning on reading any of these right now. Well, I’d totally read Elder Race if a) they’d granted me a copy or, b) it wasn’t $11 for an ebook. But maybe one of those will change? But I hope you enjoy them!!
Also I’m assuming your birthday is in November? (I’m actually pretty sure it’s not) Because otherwise we need to have a chat about this “favorite month” nonsense haha
This month is going to be a lot of fun! I’ve got so much stuff planned. My tbr and watchlist are pretty ambitious this year! 🙂
I’m hoping to see Eternals at the movie theater and I’m really looking forward to the live action Cowboy Bebop. I think I’ve got like 3 Korean shows on my watchlist that I at least want to start in on.
I’m really interesting in Light From Uncommon Stars, but I’m trying to restrain myself when it comes to tracking down any more books right now! I’ll look forward to your review. 🙂
Happy SciFi Month! My big goal is to read the full trilogy by Sangu Mandanna, starting with A Spark of White Fire. I loved Elder Race, hope you enjoy! Caitlin G. recently posted…Monthly Wrap-Up: October 2021
I haven’t thought through yet which scifi books I might try reading this month. I think I’ll do better than I did with horror in October since I’m already reading a scifi book, The High House, about a near future when climate change has gotten out of hand and large areas have been flooded. It feels like more of a literary take than I usually read for my scifi but I’m enjoying it, even though it’s a bit depressing. I’ve been thinking maybe I’ll continue the Sprawl trilogy by William Gibson. I’ve read Neuromancer twice but never read anything beyond that one.
Yay, this year will be a fun one! I felt like I didn’t have as much sci-fi on my catch up list this year but I guess I was forgetting a lot. Completely forgot I had Light From Uncommon Stars as well.

Hopefully I’ll have some good ones:-)

So glad to hear that! I’m hoping to finish NIghtwatch soon, it’s really good so far.
Why are science fiction covers always so amazing?!

Sci Fi is so broad these days you can almost find something for every reader. Hopefully I can read something that interests you:-)
I’m very excited to start another round of SciFi extravaganza this year!
See you there 🙂

Ha ha no, it’s my favorite month because it’s SciFiMonth! I dread my birthday so nope;-)

I’m really curious about The High House. Hope you read some good books this month, whether they’re sci fi or not:-)
Hope you have a great time with your sci-fi! 🙂
Thanks Stormi!

I think I missed some “catch up” scifi too, but I’m afraid to look!
Sounds like you have a good sci-fi month incoming 😀
Yes, I hope so!
I am so terribly unorganised. I’m going to go right now and search out at least one sci fi book to tackle this month. I’m simply a disgrace.
Lynn 😀
You’re not a disgrace! I’m sure you will find something to read:-)
