Over-Booked [148] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

I wasn’t planning on doing a book haul post today, but it turns out I have enough books to share, so here we are!

Physical books for review:

All of these are highly anticipated, and I’m so happy to have review copies. From the lovely Caroline at Angry Robot, I received an early copy of Bluebird by Ciel Pieriot, which will be released next February. This isn’t the final cover, by the way, so I imagine I’ll be highlighting this on a Future Fiction post once the cover comes out. Thank you Angry Robot!

With thanks to Sharon Lynn Fisher and Blackstone Publishing, I was thrilled to receive a finished copy of The Warrior Poet, which was out last week. I’m a bit behind because of my eye surgery, but look for a review on Monday. As usual, Sharon has written an intriguing combination of fantasy and romance, and this is a delight to read.

The next four books are all from the wonderful Tordotcom team, and are all books I can’t wait to read. First up, Where the Drowned Girls Go by Seanan McGuire. This is book #7 in the Wayward Children series, and I think it’s going to be good!

A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske is out very soon, so I need to get cracking on this! Tordotcom was so kind to send this beautiful finished hardcover.

I also received a finished copy of Flowers for The Sea by Zin E. Rocklyn, which I’ll be starting today, probably, and reviewing next week.

Finally, I was very surprised to get All the Horses of Iceland by Sarah Tolmie, a book I’ve featured on Future Fiction. Such a beautiful cover, right?

Digital books for review:

I’m so happy to finally have a copy of Blindspace by Jeremy Szal! I adored the first book in the series, and this comes out next month and I’ll be featuring it for Sci Fi Month:-D

In Every Generation by Kendare Blake. Well, you know I have to read all the Buffy books! And I honestly thought I would be declined for this title, as it’s published by Disney and they do not like me, lol. So I’m thrilled to have this review copy. The story centers around Willow’s daughter, who is learning magic! Which makes me wonder, who is her father????

The Amber Crown by Jacey Bedford. This appears to be a stand alone epic fantasy, I’m quite curious about this, and I won’t have to wait long because it comes out in January (and yes, I feel like we’re going to blink and January is going to be here!)

Devil House by John Darnielle. I’ve never read this author before, but I think this sounds like it could be a good story.

The Wakening by JG Faherty. This sounds like a really good possession story. I’ve read a couple of Flame Tree Press titles and enjoyed them, so hopefully this will work too.

Thank you to Jeremy Szal, Orion, Disney, DAW Books, MCD and Flame Tree Press.

And that’s my latest book haul. Do you plan on reading any of these books?

That’s a pretty good haul! And Caroline just sent me Bluebird as well! Which I’d never heard of before, so… I’m not sure. Do you think you’ll read it?

    • Tammy

I’m definitely going to read Bluebird, although I didn’t realize it was such a chonk of a book, lol. It’s next February so we have some time.

I think Disney is super conservative, and they tend to look for YA bloggers, which I am not. But I’m glad I got approved for this one.

  2. Nice collection. Most of these are new to me and I don’t know enough about them yet to have any idea if they’ll end up on my list. But I look forward to learning more if you read them. 🙂

  3. Where the Drowned Girls Go is book 7 already? I got a copy too, but I haven’t read any of the previous ones. I want to start this series so bad though, but looks like I have a ways to go to catch up!

This has been a sort of inconsistent series for me, I love some of the books and dislike others, so hopefully this will be a good one!

  4. So, as we speak, I am trying to write my review for Flowers to the Sea… and Tammy, I am so LOST. Like- I don’t think I “got” the book? Which is maybe not the book’s fault, but mine? But who can tell! I cannot WAIT to hear what you think of it so maybe I can make some sense of it hahah. Blindspace and Bluebird look really interesting, too! I’ve been curious about Horses of Iceland too, but I am waiting to see some reviews- especially yours! Hope you enjoy these!

Ha ha I totally get it! I still don’t know what to make of Flowers for the Sea. I thought the writing was kind of strange? And I had a hard time getting past it to the story. I’ll be posting a review later in the week, I need some time to think about it!

  5. So, I was offered a copy of the latest Wayward children but I’ve only read the first one so didn’t accept it. Is this a book where you have to have read the previous story or is each instalment a story in it’s own right?

The series jumps around, so you could read them out of order. But characters appear again in other books so I guess it’s better to read them in order? That was such a confusing answer, sorry!
