The Friday Face-Off: Chills

The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!

This week’s theme: A cover that gives you chills.

The theme this week is to pick something in particular that scares me, but I’ve decided to go with a specific cover that is so freaky! There are only two covers to it’s going to be a true Friday Face-Off: U.S. cover vs. UK cover! Nothing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw is super creepy and both covers are fantastic, take a look:

U.S. cover, Tor.com. I love everything about this cover, the creepy ghost with no eyes, of course; the black and white palette with touches of red, and the minimalistic design. It’s so hard to look at this, right? I just want to look away, lol.

UK cover, Titan Books. Wow I love this one too! This time we have more of the Japanese details, since the story is set in Japan. We still get creepy ghost girl with no eyes, and the pile of bones in front of her relates to the story, so that’s a nice touch.

I think I’m a little more partial to the U.S. edition, but I really love both of these. Which one do you like most?

  1. You just had to do it, didn’t you? Couldn’t leave well enough alone. Couldn’t let me get just a little peaceful sleep. Noooo! You had to post this cover yet again. ๐Ÿ™‚ I do love that US cover, just something so disturbing about it. It reminds me of many of the older Japanese horror movies I love.

  2. OMG, yes, perfect choice for this topic because this cover gives me the chills every single time I see it. The first one creeps me out the most. The backdrop of the second one actually offsets the creepiness a little for me.
