Most Anticipated Books of 2021 – Fourth Quarter

Wow, can you believe it’s the last quarter of 2021 already? Before you know it, we’ll be looking ahead to 2022 book releases. But first, let’s take a look at my most anticipated books for October, November and December of 2021. As usual, I have selected my top five books for each month, although of course I will be reading other books not mentioned here. This quarter is a little different, because I only have one December review book at the moment, and I struggled to five five December books to put on this list. So I decided to list some “catch up” books that I hope to read in December, books that have appeared on other quarterly lists this year but I wasn’t able to cross them off the list.

At the end of the post is a graphic showing how I did for my Third Quarter TBR! Here we go:

October 2021

Nightwatch on the Hinterlands by K. Eason. This novel is set in Eason’s Rory Thorne universe, and I can’t wait to start it!

Far From the Light of Heaven by Tade Thompson.  Thompson’s latest sounds so good. I believe it’s a locked room mystery in space, and that combo has really worked for me in the past, so I’m curious to see how Thompson does it.

Comfort Me With Apples by Catherynne M. Valente is one of my most anticipated October novellas. I’m always up for a new Valente story!

Nothing But Blackened Teeth by Cassandra Khaw. This is a creepy Japanese haunted house story, and that cover makes it even more creepy!

Trashlands by Alison Stine. I’ve heard really good things about this post apocalyptic story, lots of five star reviews on Goodreads, so I’m excited to try it!

November 2021

Blindspace by Jeremy Szal. This is a sequel to the wonderful Stormblood, and I’m very excited to read it. Although I don’t have a review copy yet, I’m hoping I’ll get one (and I’ve preordered it just in case).

You Sexy Thing by Cat Rambo is described as Farscape meets The Great British Bake Off, and that comparison alone makes me want to read this.

Swashbucklers by Dan Hanks. This book sounds crazy good! Ghosts, pirates, a single dad and a talking fox? And that’s only the tip of the iceberg!

Noor by Nnedi Okorafor. I always look forward to a new Nnedi Okorafor book, and I’m hearing good things about Noor.

A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske. A British historical fantasy with queer characters, I’m hoping this story is just as brilliant as the colorful cover:-D

December 2021

Jade War and Jade Legacy by Fonda Lee. Jade Legacy releases in December, and I still need to catch up with Jade War. So how about a binge read?

I’m mad at myself for not reading Revelator by Daryl Gregory yet, but hey, that’s sort of how 2021 has been going. Since this is catch up month, I’ll definitely be reading this.

Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff. This is a rare non review book for me, which is why I haven’t read it yet. But I have to see what everyone is talking about, so it’s definitely a December must read!

Finally, I really want to read Velvet Was the Night by Silvia Moreno-Garcia before the end of the year.

And here is how my Third Quarter went. Not bad, I guess, but I’m still aiming to have a fully “X’d” board one of these days, lol. I’ll definitely be reading Revelator, Empire of the Vampire and Light From Uncommon Stars before the end of the year.

What’s on your Fourth Quarter TBR? Do we have anything in common?

  1. You were very close to a fully X’d board! 🙂 Nothing But Blackened Teeth better not disappoint. With that cover always standing out so well against any other set of covers I’m sure I’ll end up reading it at some point.

  2. You did so well with your last quarter of books. And, yes, I still need to read Empire of the Vampire – the size is a bit daunting – but VAMPIRES.
    Lynn 😀
