Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
I am so behind with my reading, I’m not even sure what I’ll be reading this week. Work is very stressful right now, and I’m so tired at the end of the work day that I can barely stay awake to read even a little bit. Luckily, I am planning on reading a bunch of novellas for next week’s reviews, so maybe that will help a little.
As you might remember from last week’s Buffy’s Corner, my hubby is currently in Hawaii for work, but he’s also taking the opportunity to photograph some endangered species of birds. Through his connections on Facebook, he hooked up with someone who works for a National Park there, and this person has made arrangements for hubby to take photos for their cause. He’s already sent home some really cool photos, and I’ll share a few at the end of this post. Plus Kilauea Volcano just erupted, and he was there to see it and take photos (of course). I’m sort of wishing I was there too, it sounds like an amazing trip!
Upcoming reviews:
I just couldn’t get a second review up last week, so I’m going to try for all three of these books this week. Summer Sons is one of those books you need to immerse yourself in, instead of picking it up for a short time and putting it down again. I’m hoping when this post goes up, I will have had a nice “immersion” session with it, lol. From the Neck Up is a very weird short story collection but it doesn’t surprise me how much I loved it, considering it’s Aliya Whiteley. And A Spindle Splintered is a delightfully funny “fractured fairy tale.”
Upcoming reads:
Yep, it’s novella week. Specifically, Tor.com novellas. These are all October releases and I believe they are all horror as well. So I’m happy to have a theme this week, maybe it will motivate me!
Other posts:
On Tuesday is one of my favorite posts, it’s my Most Anticipated Books of 2021 – Fourth Quarter. See what I’m looking forward to for the last quarter of the year, and you can see how I did last quarter! On Wednesday I have a few cool cover reveals to share on Future Fiction, and The Friday Face-Off is “What scares you.”

Enjoy this slideshow of Hawaiian birds, plus a volcano!
Hawaiian fauna is indeed amazing, but the volcanic eruption is nothing short of spectacular….

I know! It’s so cool he was there to see the volcano:-)
Multiple pictures this week! They’re all so beautiful. I feel you on the reading though, it’s so tough to read when your body is just ready to sleep. Novellas sound like a great idea though! Maybe I’ll grab an anthology or something. 😀

Anthologies are great too, a short story is much easier to read and finish when you’re tired:-)
I can’t wait to read your review of Summer Sons. I’ve been seeing it around a lot on blogs and bookstagram so I really wanna know your thoughts on it!

Ha ha thanks Maryam!
I love seeing the pictures he’s taking! I have always wanted to see a volcano erupt. That’s so cool! Looks like some great books coming up for me to check out reviews on. I need time to do some blog commenting, but like you I’ve been a bit behind on reading and trying to catch up. Have a good week!

Thanks Lisa, you too:-)
Stressful work seems to be going around these days. I know exactly what you mean about not having any energy when you get home. Fortunately I have a couple books I’m currently reading and rereading (The Poison Prince by S.C. Emmett and The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien) that for me are working very well one small chapter at a time. It lets me stay in those worlds longer and I’m really enjoying the extended stay. Audiobooks have been a big help when I don’t even have the energy for that short read, and I find I’m listening to more and more of them. But I also find I sometimes don’t even want that and default to watching videos. I absolutely love your husbands photos. He’s doing some great photography out there!
Thanks Todd! I’m enjoying seeing birds I’ve never seen before:-)
I feel you with work Tammy! I have been the same last week! Even blog hopping was impossible after Tuesday! And your husband’s pictures are amazing!
I hope we both have better work weeks, Sophie:-)
Bummer that work is stressful, hope that gets better soon!
Thanks Stormi!
I think I need to have a good immersion session with Summer Sons as well, haha, and I totally get what you mean and agree with you! From the Neck Up is still really intriguing me. I hope you enjoy Nothing But Blackened Teeth, I am planning to pick it up soon as well! And Comfort Me with Apples. 🙂 Hope you have a great week!
Thanks Jordan, you too!
Those photos by your hubby are beautiful and it’s so cool (and scary) that he was able to capture the volcano eruption.
I totally understand being swamped by work with not much time to read. That usually throws me into a slump. I hope that doesn’t happen for you and the novellas help.
I hope so too! It’s a drag when you can’t read:-)
I feel you on work being stressful. My reading, blogging, and blog hopping has really suffered the past few weeks. Here’s hoping things slow down a bit this week for us both. Your hubby’s Hawaii pics are stunning, especially the volcano!
Thanks Suzanne:-)
ooo I always love seeing the photos. Thanks for sharing. I know what you mean about being so tired at night you don’t get to much (any) reading. I need to be packing kitchen stuff this week but I’d rather be reading.

I don’t blame you!
Our work days sound similar–I am so exhausted at the end of the day. Stressful and tiring. I hope you had an easier week this week. I read and enjoyed A Spindle Splintered recently too. I love the slideshow. So many beautiful photos. Have a great weekend and enjoy the week!
Wow, that sounds a fantastic trip for your husband. And amazing pictures. What an experience.
I watched your daughter’s music vid on FB – absolutely wonderful and she looked so happy and relaxed.
Lynn 😀
