Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D
It’s sort of been a ho-hum week around here. I just wasn’t motivated to read or blog much, for some reason. So I guess I don’t have anything exciting to report, lol. I am looking forward to Labor Day weekend, but I guess that’s still a couple of weeks away. Sigh. In local news, our schools started up this week, in person, and even though I don’t have kids in school anymore, it’s all anyone is talking about. Our schools are doing weekly Covid tests and cases are already being reported, which isn’t surprising. It seems like it’s going to be a very long year, what with kids having to quarantine if someone in the classroom tests positive. Anyone have kids in school right now, and how is it where you live?
Upcoming reviews:
Last week wasn’t the greatest for reading, so I was only able to get up one review. I’m trying to make up for it this week with three reviews! I really enjoyed Wildwood Whispers, and my review will be up tomorrow. If you’re an Alice Hoffman fan, you will probably enjoy it too. Thursday I’m on the Angry Robot blog tour for Twenty-Five to Life. I’m currently reading this and it’s pretty good! Finally, I caught an announcement on Instagram about a couple of horror reprints by Jeremy Robert Johnson, and of course I ran out and bought copies:-) I’ve just finished one of them, In the River, and wow. This was a powerful and devastating horror novella!
Upcoming reads:
It’s the end of the month, and as usual I’m scrambling to read as many August books as I can. My Heart is a Chainsaw is my “must read” of the week, followed by Velvet Was the Night and Light Chaser.
Other posts:
Just the usual suspects this week: Wednesday is Future Fiction, The Friday Face-Off is “Sunbathing on the beach,” and I’ll have a book haul post on Saturday!
Did you miss any of my posts last week?
The Friday Face-Off: Dressed to Kill
The Exiled Fleet by J.S. Dewes – Review 4.5/5 stars
I didn’t enjoy My Heart Is a Chainsaw as much as I was expecting. I hope it works for you! Aren’t blue herons graceful, lovely birds? Great photo!

Sorry to hear that! SGJ has yet to disappoint me but I guess there is always a first time:-)
The cover of Light Chaser caught my eye. Not sure I’ve tired anything by either author. I’m not a fan of these ho-hum less motivated weeks but I’ve not yet found a way to avoid them. They always seem to push their way in at some point during the year. But the good news is they don’t usually stay too long. I hope this next week is a better one for you, Tammy!
That’s so true! Moods come and go, you just have to remember that at some point they will “go.” lol
It’s weird around here because it seems the more it’s talked about the more the places around here have dropped their shields from walmart to convienent stores. I am glad I don’t have kids so I don’t have to deal with the school mess. (only wish I had them so the government would give me extra money!) Okay, enough of that you don’t want my rant…lol. 🙂
Hope you get in some of those August reads you have! I can’t believe the month is almost over and I feel so behind!!
Have a great week and happy reading!

Yep, me too. I can’t imagine what it must be like to have kids in school right now. My daughter is in college still but they have a good system going and I think she’ll be fine.
I don’t have kids but my brother is in school (he’s 16) and so far everything is going back to normal there, I don’t even think they have to wear mouth masks in class anymore. And in general a lot of the restrictions are gonna expire in September. I’m kinda nervous about it all, tbh.
I’m excited for you to read Velvet Was the Night and can’t wait to hear your thoughts about it!
I hope I can get to Velvet Was the Night, I’m starting to already look at my September pile, lol.
You got some good books here! I wish my last week was ho-hum, mine was crazy! I am also looking forward to Labor Day weekend, we have a outdoor festival that usually goes on that weekend, but was cancelled last year of course. It’s supposed to go on this year, and I already know what craft booths I want to visit if they show up like they usually do. Hope you have a good week!

I hope you get to go to the festival, I would think being outdoors it will be OK. Hope you have a less stressful week!
“If you’re an Alice Hoffman fan, you will probably enjoy it too.” Well crap, why’d you have to go and say that for?! I hear you on the ho hum, though. I’m happy I managed to get some posts out but keeping myself reading and everything was tough this week. I hope yours passes soon, or you’re able to take a break. I burned out for years when I pushed through the extremes of mine way back, hate to see folk go through the same.

I’ve burned out a couple of times, and I’ve finally learned (or at least I try) to just let it happen, and eventually I’ll get that spark back.
I just got back to work after being out with Covid for 5 weeks. The stuff is tough. We have so many employees that are out with it and the state is very high in new cases. I’m still out of breath a lot and weak. It lingers. I miss the whole summer with having to work so much. Be safe!

Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear that, Laura!! Please take care…
My niece’s kids are in school here and they all have to wear masks. They were in school all of last school year, too, and wore masks the whole school year. My niece and her husband are doctors and the whole family got Covid last year, but luckily everyone was okay. Now the parents are vaccinated, but the kids are too young to get vaccines.
I like the cover of Light Chaser and the blue heron photo your husband took is beautiful. Hope you have a good week, Tammy.
Yes, it will be nice when the younger kids can get the vaccine. I know a lot of parents who will be relieved:-)
I didn’t blog much this week either ! And our kids won’t be back to shool before yet another two weeks so we’ll see how it’s organized this year.
I feel especially bad for the elementary kids who aren’t old enough to get vaccinated. Should be an interesting year!
The mask mandates have just started again here. NC is full of rednecks but the governor has some sense. My daughter luckily chose to do all online (in April signup) so we are both happy with that. We are pulling back from going out unless necessary and any shopping I either do pickup or go at odd hours. I hope you enjoy these last weeks of summer. I’m just waitig for the cool down.

Oh me too! I just checked our weather and it’s back up into the 90s all week:-( I am so done with summer!
Looking forward to your new round of reviews! Have a great week!
Thanks Lisa, you too!
The school/ Covid wars are happening here too, although actually everyone here seems to be okay with masking being optional and no real contact tracing to speak of. It’ll be interesting to see how that goes, and to be honest I have mixed feelings about it. I tend to fall more on the concerned/ should be masking side, but my area doesn’t seem to agree. 🙂
Wildwood Whispers looks really good! Curious about the Moreno- Garcia too…

Masks are mandatory in our schools, but California has always been more strict with Covid stuff than other states.
I’m sort of starting to have a ho-hum week myself right haha probably because I overdid it last week! Stay safe, Tammy!

Thanks Hasini, you too!
I feel very similar to you at the moment. Sigh. I’m kind of busy and distracted by other things and reading and blogging is taking a serious hit with very little attention (I think the fact that I’m playing catchup from the recent wifi disaster isn’t helping either). Oh well, it is what it is. September will be a new start, lol.
Lynn 😀
I agree! I personally have renewed energy each September, fingers crossed for both of us:-)
The schools here started back about two and a half weeks ago and so far no cases of COVID that I’ve heard of. Everyone is required to wear masks though so hopefully that’s helping to keep it at bay. I thought my son would complain about the mask but I think he and all of the other kids are so glad to be back together that they haven’t really put up a fuss at all.
I think kids are more adaptable than adults anyway:-)
