Over-Booked [143] – A Book Haul Post

Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! There is a new blog hosting Stacking the Shelves, so do check out Reading Reality for more information!

Well, my week was totally screwed up and my eye surgery was cancelled, so here I am with a book haul, when I wasn’t planning on posting much this weekend! I’ll go into more details tomorrow about that (if you’re interested) in Buffy’s Corner, but for now, here are my most recent book acquisitions:

Physical books for review:

Lots of awesome review books showed up in the last couple of weeks!

First, I’m thrilled to have these Orbit books for review: Wildwood Whispers by Willa Reece is actually my next read, and I’m really excited to start it. I was so happy to receive a surprise copy of Jade Legacy by Fonda Lee, the third book in her Green Bone Saga series! I do still need to catch up with book #2, but I have a couple of months to make that happen. And finally, I cannot wait to read Far From the Light of Heaven by Tade Thompson. I’ve heard it’s a locked room mystery in space, one of my favorite tropes! Big thank you to Orbit and Redhook:-D

Star Mother by Charlie N. Holmberg was a surprise arrival, with thanks to 47North. This is a November release so I may be able to squeeze it in. To be honest, Holmberg’s books don’t really work for me, so I’m a little on the fence about this one.

Big thanks to Quirk Books for Dare to Know by James Kennedy! The publisher is saying it’s “Dark Matter meets Annihilation” and I’m here for it!

And last but not least, big thanks to Tor.com for a finished copy of Light Chaser by Peter F. Hamilton and Gareth L. Powell. This is an August novella that I will be squeezing in this month.

Digital books for review:

After hearing all sorts of raves for Eric LaRocca’s books, I was really excited when he put the call out for bloggers to review his upcoming short story collection, The Strange Thing We Become and Other Dark Tales. Thank you Eric!

And yippy, I was approved for Hunt the Stars by Jessie Mihalik, which I recently featured on Future Fiction. Thank you to Harper Voyager:-D

Last but not least, I had to download Battle of the Linguist Mages by Scotto Moore. This book sounds so freaking amazing, I can’t wait to read it! Thanks to Tor:-)

Do you think you’ll be reading any of these books? Let me know:-D

  1. Oh, sorry your eye surgery was cancelled! Could it be that everyone and their mother wants to go on vacation these days? and everything else can wait? Yeah, I’m a bit leery…

I’m envious now, because I had my eyes set on Dare to Know, but I wasn’t approved! Looking forward to your review!

Me too, I can’t deny I was a little relieved that the surgery was cancelled, but now I have to go through all that stress again. Oh well!

  2. It’s no fun when you have to cancel something like surgery. For me I typically just want to get it over with and in the rear view mirror. I hope all goes well going forward. As for the books, I love the idea of a locked room mystery in space, but the cover for Far From the Light of Heaven seems unusual given that theme. I’d be curious to hear how it plays into the story (if at all). And speaking of covers, I love the luna moths on the cover of Wildwood Whispers. Take care, Tammy.

I agree, that cover does not say “locked room mystery” to me either. I guess we’ll see! Thanks Todd:-)

  3. Okay your haul is FABULOUS! I actually won a Kindle copy of Far From the Light of Heaven, which is great because I am super excited for it! I also just finished Dare to Know, and I cannot wait to hear your thoughts on it! I have… many, hah. I NEED Hunt the Stars, too! And now I have a bunch of Goodreads tabs open looking up the others hah. Hope you enjoy them!!

Can’t wait to see how you like Green Bone #2! I loved your review of the first one, um despite the fact that I still haven’t gotten around to reading it yet

I’ve got to fit book two in soon, lol. Jade Legacy is HUGE and I’m going to need some time to read it:-)
