Quick Fire Fantasy Book Tag 2021 #wyrdandwonder

I did this tag last year for Wyrd & Wonder, and I thought it would be fun to do an updated version, using all different books! I hope you’ll join me if this sounds like fun to you too. It’s short and sweet! (I’ve linked the titles to my reviews if you’d like to read them). This tag was originally created by The Bookworm Dreamer.

5 Star Book:

My most recent five-star fantasy books are The Ladies of the Secret Circus by Constance Sayers, and Call of the Bone Ships by R.J. Barker. These books are completely different from each other, but oh so good.

Always going to Recommend:

I’m a huge fan of Dan Stout’s The Carter Archives, a gritty urban fantasy/police procedural series that is still going strong. Come for the Carter/Jax bromance/buddy cop shenanigans, stay for the fascinating world building and pulse pounding action.

Own it but haven’t read it yet:

Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo is a book I bought when it first came out, after being swept away by the Hype Monster. But it’s still just sitting on my shelves, waiting for me to find time to read it. How sad…

Would read again:

I love this series so much! Lake Silence and Wild Country by Anne Bishop are the first two books in her World of the Others series, and the third book, Crowbones, won’t be out until 2022. I’d love to do a reread before the third book comes out, just so I can experience these stories again!

In another world:

The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman is a recent read, and I absolutely loved this magical and (at times) hysterically funny tale. Buehlman’s secondary fantasy world is brimming with wonder and invention.

Back on Earth:

Birds of Paradise by Oliver K. Langmead follows Adam, the first man in creation (yes, that Adam!) as he tries to find the scattered pieces of the Garden of Eden, stolen by a devious foe. Set in familiar places such as Manchester and Edinburgh, the story is brought to life by magical, shape changing birds and animals.

Have you read any of these books? Will you be doing the Quick Fire Fantasy Tag too?

I didn’t even know there was going to be a sequel. I’d better get ready for it:-)

I’m well interested in The Carter Archives. It was you who put them on my radar a lil while back when you mentioned the newest one in a future fiction! Ninth House is also sitting on my e-shelf too. It’s not the kind of thing I usually read but I think I might like it. My gf read it recently and thought it was great.

Ninth House isn’t my normal read either but I think I’ll love it, if I ever make time for it:-/

  2. ok now I have to The Ladies of the Secret Circus. The book I never knew I needed will be mine! I like short and fast but every now and then I love to fall into a book like this.

  3. I’ve yet to read any of these, but if I were to pick just one to read soonest it would likely be The Blacktongue Thief, though I’d also really like to read The Bone Ships (the first in the series).

  4. Great tag – I might very well take a go at this.
And, I’ve read four of your featured books. I would also love to read the Titan books but (as I may have mentioned *ahem* a few times too many maybe) they’re not available in electronic or audio – boo! One day maybe.

  5. I haven’t yet read any of these but Black-Tongue Thief, Ladies of the Secret Circus, and those bone ship books are high on my TBR.

  6. Aaahhh, I was looking for a tag to do! Thanks Tammy!
Also … tbr list just got longer, yet again! Thanks for that too. <3
