Last week I featured Ten Upcoming Adult Fantasy Books, and this week it’s time to take a look at some YA! And wow, there is a LOT of amazing looking YA fantasy coming out. I’ve narrowed it down to twelve books that are on my radar, and just like my last list, I’m not going to repeat myself. These are all books I have not yet talked about here on the blog, and I’m focusing on books that appeal to me personally. Obviously this is not a comprehensive list, but I hope you find something new to add to your TBRs! These are listed in order of publication date, and the titles are linked to Goodreads. Here we go:

A Season of Sinister Dreams by Tracy Banghart. Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, June 22nd. I love the sound of this book. Two girls from different worlds are thrown together and have to figure out how to protect their kingdom.

It Ends in Fire by Andrew Shvarts. Little Brown/Jimmy Patterson, July 5th. I had a great time with Shvarts’ adult fantasy, Royal Bastards, and I’m curious to see how he does YA. This sounds really good, I’m sort of getting Nevernight vibes…

Red Wolf by Rachel Vincent. HarperTeen, July 20th. We are getting so many Little Red Riding Hood/Wolf themed stories this year, and here’s another one! This cover is so creative, I love it:-)

The City Beautiful by Aden Polydoros. Inkyard Press, September 7th. I’ve also been seeing a lot of Jewish-themed fantasies as well. This cover is amazing, and I love the sound of this historical fantasy.

The Lost Girls by Sonia Hartl. Page Street Kids, September 14th. OK I am all over this book. Excuse me while I run over to NetGalley and request it! A feminist, queer vampire story with plenty of dark humor? And a great cover as well!

Stalking Shadows by Cyla Panin. Amulet Books, September 14th. I cannot do this story justice by trying to recap it. Just click the link and read the blurb on Goodreads. This sounds AMAZING. A girl whose sister turns into a killer beast, set in 18th century France?? Yes please:-)

The Keeper of Night by Kylie Lee Baker. Inkyard Press, October 12th. Behind this gorgeous cover lies a story that sounds pretty cool. I love stories with Japanese themes and characters, and add in soul collectors and demons and you have a fantastic combo!

That Dark Infinity by Kate Pentecost. Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, October 19th. A mercenary by night who turns into a skeleton by day? OK I’m intrigued! And I love this creepy cover:-D

The Color of Dragons by R.A. Salvatore & Erika Lewis. HarperTeen, October 19th. Ooh this cover is so pretty! This might be my favorite ever dragon cover, and there are some pretty good ones out there. This appears to be a story about the origins of Merlin’s magic (from the Arthurian legends), and I’m looking forward to it.

Dreams Lie Beneath by Rebecca Ross. Quill Tree Books, November 2nd. “Perfect for fans of The Hazel Wood and The Night Circus…” A world where magicians protect people from nightmares. I love the sound of that, and I love this dreamy cover!

Within These Wicked Walls by Lauren Blackwood. Wednesday Books, November 9th. This story has a Gothic feel to it, which doesn’t surprise me because it’s a Jane Eyre retelling. And wow, I love this cover so much! This is one YA fantasy debut I’ll be keeping my eye on..

The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea by Axie Oh. Feiwel & Friends, February 22nd 2022. I’m salivating over this cover! This is a story based on Korean folklore and is being compared to Spirited Away. It sounds really really good.

Let me know if you’re looking forward to any of these too:-D

So many ones I want to read! I used to read Vincent all the time. Would love to read the new one by her.

  2. Ooh, Red Wolf and The City Beautiful are really calling out to me. And Stalking Shadows sounds so good! I’ve seen The Keeper of Night and The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea and I’m so excited for those already. What a great list of books!

It wasn’t hard to come up with this list, there really are so many good looking YA fantasy to pick from:-)

  3. The cover for That Dark Infinity is fantastic! The Keeper of Night description mentions Shinigami, which brings back great memories of Death Note (manga/anime/movies/etc). And I also love that cover for The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea.

There are a lot of Asian inspired fantasy stories coming out, which I’m excited about:-)

  4. Lots of cool books! I have an eARC of Within These Wicked Walls and I am a bit anxious about it since I just read a retelling of Jane Eyre (The Wife Upstairs) and wasn’t a fan! Jane Eyre is a favorite and now I am afraid to try another retelling…lol. FIngers crossed! Hope you get your hands on all these!

I saw Within These Wicked Walls on NetGalley and I’ll probably end up requesting it:-)

  5. I’m definitely out of the loop with YA these days, since I’ve practically sworn off the genre with just a few exceptions. I see a couple here that I need to read though, It Ends in Fire and That Dark Infinity!

  6. Your posts are always so bad for my TBR. xD I hadn’t heard of The Color of Dragons, but oh my gosh, I need it now. I love the cover for That Dark Infinity, too, and now I’m super curious about it!
