Welcome to Over-Booked, where I share my latest and greatest book acquisitions! I’m linking up with Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews.
Well, it’s been a month since my last book haul post, and I wasn’t planning to go so long, but I guess I’ve had other Saturday posts planned instead. But here we are with a very modest book haul (for a whole month, I think it’s pretty modest). I am trying to curb my NetGalley requesting and I’ve been pretty successful. Still I have seven new digital review books to share, as well as some super exciting book mail. Take a look:
Physical review books:
Sidewinders by Robert V.S. Redick was a surprise arrival, thanks to Talos. Upon investigating this a little, I realized that it’s book #2 in a series, so I probably won’t be reading this, at least for now. This is a big, chonky almost 700 pages so that’s another reason I probably won’t get to it.
With thanks to Mulholland Books and the Orbit team, I received a copy of The Quiet Boy by Ben H. Winters. This is a May release so I’ll be trying my best to read it this month! I’ve never read Winters but I’ve heard lots of good things about The Last Policeman series.
Thank you to Tor for a lovely finished copy of Immunity Index by Sue Burke. I have to admit I had hoped to finish this by now, but I’m actually struggling to get through it. It’s slow and meandering and I keep mixing up the characters, lol. But of course things can change! I do plan on pushing through and posting a review soon.
I am thrilled to have an ARC of The Last House on Needless Street by Catriona Ward. I really wanted a physical ARC and I’m so grateful for this and the cool cat pin that goes with it. Huge thanks to Tor Nightfire:-D
And another huge thank you to Tor.com for a copy of A Spindle Splintered by Alix E. Harrow. I can’t wait to read this, Harrow is one of my favorite authors. This doesn’t come out until October, and I’m not sure I can wait that long…
I featured To Dust You Shall Return by Fred Venturini in a Future Fiction post recently, and I’m so happy the publisher contacted me and offered me a review copy. If this is anything like his last book, I expect it to be very dark! Thank you to Turner Publishing.
The Dancing Girls by M.M. Chouinard. This mystery involving a serial killer who poses bodies in ballet positions sounds pretty good! I’m trying to read more mysteries so I wanted to check this one out, plus it’s the first book in a new series. Thank you to Grand Central Publishing!
I’m really happy to have a finished copy of The Album of Dr. Moreau by Daryl Gregory. I absolutely loved this book, and my review will be up next week! Huge thanks to Tor.com.
I was not expecting this, but super big thanks to Chris Panatier for sending me a signed copy of The Phlebotomist, along with the special pin Angry Robot created for the book! I entered a giveaway on Twitter but I didn’t win. Then Chris said he wanted to send me a pin anyway, and I guess he decided to throw in the book as well! I adore this book and I believe there will be a sequel coming out next year.
Huge thanks to Quirk Books for this lovely paperback set of the entire Once Upon a Con series by Ashley Poston. I’ve read everything already except for the first book, Geekerella (go figure!) which I’m definitely reading at some point. This isn’t my usual genre—YA romance—but I just love all the pop culture references and the fact that the stories revolve around a pop culture convention.
Digital review books:
I’m excited for all of these, but if you know me you’ll understand how thrilled I am to have a copy of Feral Creatures (Hollow Kingdom #2) by Kira Jane Buxton in my hands. This was so hard for me to get. I won’t go into all the gory details, but I worked for this eARC, lol.
And I’m equally excited for The Book of Accidents by Chuck Wendig. I’ve been anxiously waiting for Chuck’s next “big” book since I was blown away by Wanderers back in 2019.
AND I’m equally excited for The Exiled Fleet by J.S. Dewes, after loving The Last Watch. I’m also appreciating the fact that this sequel is releasing a mere four months after the first book:-D
And of course, I’m thrilled to have a copy of Revelator by Daryl Gregory as well, which featured on a Future Fiction post not too long ago.
I also featured You Sexy Thing by Cat Rambo recently, and here is the eARC! I’ve had great luck with science fiction so far in 2021, hopefully I can add this to my “favorites” list.
The Peculiarities by David Liss sounds peculiar! But in the best way possible. I think it’s going to be really good.
Finally, I couldn’t resist downloading Chasing the Boogeyman by Richard Chizmar. This sounds so good, and maybe a little meta? The main character’s name is “Richard Chizmar.”
Big thanks to Grand Central Publishing, Del Rey, Tor Books, Knopf, Tachyon and Gallery/Saga Press:-D
That Phlebotomist cover with the pin is amazing!
And Im so glad to see the e-ARC for The Exiled Fleet is ready: I finished The Last Watch two days ago and totally enjoyed it – your recommendation proved to be spot on 😉

Oh good! I’m looking forward to your review, I hope you post one:-)
Awesome haul! I want one of everything.:-) I’ve read The Last House on Needless Street and loved it, but I haven’t gotten any of the others (haha, yet).

I’m definitely reading The Last House on Needless Street early, I can’t wait:-)
Oh my gosh! The Last Watch has a sequel coming out so soon? I really need to catch up.
Also, I so wish more publishers would include fun little goodies like pins or bookmarks with review copies – the just make the package extra awesome!
Me too, I love pins and bookmarks so much:-)
Chasing The Boogeyman is going on my tbr for sure.
Geekerella was a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy and thanks for the reminder that I should read the next books in the series.
I’m reading the series backwards, lol, but I would like to read Geekerella since the other two books reference those characters.
Oh how cute, I loved Geekerella, and really want to read the followups some day! YES so excited for Exiled Fleet!!

I’m so excited The Exiled Fleet comes out so quickly!
I’m SO excited for The Quiet Boy! I got myself a copy too that I hope to get to soon. Happy reading, Tammy!
I hope we both love it!
Most of what I’m curious about here are in the digital pile. I did smile when I saw Feral Creatures, and then again when I read what you wrote about it. 🙂
Ha ha now I have to read it early or I’m going to feel really stupid!
Yay for Feral Creatures! And also for The Exiled Fleet – I have the eARC but I might just wait for the audio again since the production of the first one was so well done. And thanks for the info on Sidewinders, I was offered a review copy and even though I know it’s a sequel, I was thinking I could knock both books out quick. But if this one is 700 pages, then yeah that’s not happening, lol!
Yeah, I know myself and big books just stress me out, lol. Unless it’s an author I love already.
YA romance? Huh, weird.
As for the rest of them—they were not on my list. Any of them. Is the VS Redick one the book after Master Assassins? I meant to read that but it escaped me. Think it wasn’t too long, only 400 pages or so.
Yeah I know the YA romance sounds totally wrong for me, but like I said, the con storyline really drew me in. And yes, I believe Master Assassins is the first book.
Sometimes I wonder how much more room you’ll need if you keep on getting this many amazing books to read in the next 10 years!!! You gonna have to apply for a second mortgage or something, Tammy! 😛 Happy reading!

Ha ha I’m going to move when I run out of space!
Oh super curious about The Last House on Needless Street, I love cats but I’m not crazy about dark fantasy.
Damn, my TBR is broken!
Lynn 😀
To Dust You Shall Return is a fantastic title! Looks like you’ve got a ton of great books coming up. I want to read The Book of Accidents, too. I’m really curious about The Last House on Needless Street, too! Sounds like my kind of book. Hope you enjoy these!
