Thanks to imyril at onemore.org, bloggers have two fun blogging months to look forward to each year: Sci-Fi Month in November, and Wyrd & Wonder in May! If you love fantasy and you want to learn more about Wyrd & Wonder, click this link for more details. Huge thanks to imyril, Lisa and Jorie for hosting! This is my introductory post to show you the fantasy books I hope to read this month, as well as some other fun things I’d like to participate in.

Wyrd & Wonder TBR:

I’ve got a mix of April and May review books, as well as an older book on my TBR, and I’m excited about all of these!

The Blacktongue Thief by Christopher Buehlman is probably my most anticipated May release. And I’ve heard nothing but amazing things so far:-D

I tried to read The Helm of Midnight by Marina Lostetter last month, but I just didn’t have time. I’m not sure if this is technically considered fantasy, but I’m adding it to this list anyway.

There’s lots of hype surrounding The Shadow of the Gods by John Gwynne, and I’m on board the hype train for sure! This will be my first John Gwynne book, let’s hope it’s a good one.

And yes, I’m really going to try to (finally) read Jade City by Fonda Lee. I’m running out of time to catch up before book three comes out, and I’m excited!

From P. Djèlí Clark, I’m looking forward to A Master of Djinn, which is set in the same world as some of his other novellas/short stories, but I’m hoping this can be read first.

Finally, another April book I wasn’t able to get to is The Light of the Midnight Stars by Rena Rossner. I have seen a few mixed reviews of this, but I’m curious to see how it works for me.

Lists!

You know I love a good list, and Wyrd & Wonder is the perfect opportunity to share a few! Here are some lists I’d love to do this month, time permitting:

  • Ten Upcoming Adult Fantasies

  • Ten Upcoming YA Fantasies

  • A to Z Fantasy

  • Best Fantasy of 2021 So Far

  • Quick Fire Fantasy Tag

Wyrd & Wonder Bingo!

I just found out about this bingo challenge, and I’ve decided to add it to my May plans. I already have some books picked out that could work for some of these challenges, and this will be my first time participating in a book bingo challenge! Click here to learn more about it.

Giveaway!

I haven’t done a giveaway in quite a while, so hey, let’s do one! At the end of the month, I’ll give someone the chance to win a fantasy book of their choice. Check back often (or better yet, follow this blog) so you don’t miss out:-D

Sounds like fun, right? Let me know if you’re participating in Wyrd & Wonder as well:-D

  1. Great plans! The Master of Djinn is one of my most anticipated books of the year, I hope you like it. I need to sit down with my Wyrd and Wonder plans cause I think my initial draft is way too ambitious.

I agree, I’m so curious about the Blacktongue Thief, but I have a lot of faith it’s going to be good.

I keep threatening to start the series but I never manage to do it. This month for sure:-)

  2. Hallo, Hallo Tammy,

Welcome back to Wyrd And Wonder, Year 4! 🙂 Hard to imagine its our fourth year isn’t it!? Ooh I am positively wicked happy Imyril developed our first Bingo Card! I think she is letting me select a square for next year’s card and I couldn’t be happier knowing what it will be for, too! Eek. I tend to be overly addicted to bingos — tried in 2020 to use them every month but my 2020 was rather adverse personally and my reading queues were wayy under par. This year, despite the hard upsets this first quarter of the year, I’m renewed already by what I’m doing for W&W. It is giving me a way to take a readerly holiday and just absorb as many stories as I can whilst finding my rhythm again as a blogger, reader and chatty tweeter.

It is also the first year I can join the group RAL — #sohappy!

You mentioned mixed-reviews for The Light of the Midnight Stars!? Were there TW/CW attached?! This is one reason I shy away from a lot of Adult Fantasy novels… the premise ropes me in and even intrigues me but sometimes they go seriously DARK or get too violently descriptive. Plus a few other entanglements… but I still strive to finding my path into Adult Fantasy.

I can’t wait to see your Lists and following your adventure this Wyrd And Wonder! I have two reviews up right now — both MG Fantasy and wicked good. If you like magical circuses due check out “The Marvelwood Magicians” and if you like the markets of Istanbul, you’ll love “Dalya and the Magic Ink Bottle”.

  3. I want to read The Shadow of the Gods SO BAD! I recently bought Malice to check out his other books too. But I’m excited for Shadow to come in the mail! I’ve heard a lot of good things about Jade City, so that’s on my TBR in the future. Same with A Master of Djinn. I’m curious what your A-Z fantasy and Quick Fire Fantasy Tag posts will be! Happy reading 🙂

  4. I’m hoping to read one of P. Djèlí Clark’s novellas for W&W too.
And A to Z fantasy list sounds cool. I bet I’ll get a couple recs from that.

  5. I would have loved to do that bingo challenge – but I’m so behind already this month so I know I’d never make it. Good luck.
    Lynn 😀
