What’s On My Plate – March 2021

Another month bites the dust. I swear, time flies when there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, right? Covid numbers are down, schools are talking about opening back up (in California, anyway), vaccines are slowly but surely making their way into the world. Things could be worse, right? It’s weird to think that a year ago Covid-19 was barely on our radar and we had no idea what was headed our way. Almost a year ago to this day, my husband and I flew back to Wisconsin for my father-in-law’s funeral. At that time we were a little scared to fly, but we knew we had to go. I never expected this pandemic to still be affecting lives a year later, but here we are. Luckily 2021 seems to be speeding by which means life might return to normal sooner rather than later. Yes, I’m an optimist:-)

Anyway, on to the books I hope to read this month. March really has some awesome releases and I feel like I can’t go wrong with any of these books. Let me know in the comments if you plan to read any of these too!

March review books:

The Fall of Koli by M.R. Carey is the final book in Carey’s very fine post apocalyptic series. I will be reading this very soon, I hope.

The Ladies of the Secret Circus by Constance Sayers is a book I’ve been anticipating ever since I read A Witch in Time (which is excellent, by the way. You should check it out!). I will be starting this later in the week.

I’ve already read Dead Space by Kali Wallace and all I can say is WOW. This is an unexpected five star book (it didn’t even make my Five Star Prediction post) but I should have known Kali Wallace would deliver a pulse-pounding SF mystery. My review will be up tomorrow, don’t miss it!

Very excited to read another Oliver K. Langmead book, and luckily Birds of Paradise is a March release.

I’ve been seeing some amazing reviews already for The Bone Maker by Sarah Betha Durst. Super excited to tackle her newest adult fantasy!

Forget Me Not by Alexandra Oliva looks really good. I have not read this author yet but lots of bloggers talk about her.

Aliya Whiteley is another favorite author of mine, and I’m happy to be able to read her upcoming release, Skyward Inn.

The Lost Village by Camilla Sten sounds like a really good horror/thriller. My month is a little fantasy heavy, so this will be a nice change of pace.

Machinehood by S.B. Divya. Divya edited the excellent Escape Pod that I read last year, so I’m curious to read her latest novel.

We Shall Sing a Song Into the Deep by Andrew Kelly Stewart. This novella sounds pretty unique, I’m very curious to check it out!

The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner. I believe this is more historical mystery than fantasy, but I’m not sure. I can’t wait to read it, though!

Finally, I have an eARC of Down Comes the Night by Allison Saft. This is a YA fantasy but boy does it have some amazing ratings on Goodreads! That’s not to say that I will enjoy it, but it does make me more excited to read it.

Blog tours & Book events:

You know that time I said I was done with blog tours? Umm I’m on four this month. Lol. On March 9th, I’ll be posting a review for The Second Bell by Gabriela Houston during Angry Robot’s blog tour. For Titan Books, I’ll be participating in the blog tour for All the Murmuring Bones by A.G. Slatter. This Gothic fairy tale has some good reviews! This Friday March 5th I’ll be on The Poet blog tour, so stop by for not only an excerpt but a giveaway! And on the 20th, I’m hosting Louise Worthington, author of Rosie Shadow, for a blog tour stop. Lots of interesting books and I’m very happy to participate in these tours.

Here are the books I reviewed in February! Click on the titles if you missed my review:

The Echo Wife by Sarah Gailey

Winter’s Orbit by Everina Maxwell

The Future is Yours by Dan Frey

Sun-Daughters, Sea-Daughters by Aimee Ogden

The Forever Sea by Joshua Phillip Johnson

Dragonfly Girl by Marti Leimbach

A History of What Comes Next by Sylvain Neuvel

The Minders by John Marrs

The Russian Cage by Charlaine Harris

  1. It really is crazy how much can change in a year. I also flew last year into the first week or so of March and I remember being a little nervous, and then like the day after things started shutting down, haha. I appreciate your optimism!I don’t think you can go wrong with any of those books, either! (although admittedly I did DNF Down Comes the Night, but I’ve heard nothing but good things about it!) I’m excited about Kali Wallace’s book! I’m reading The Lost Village right now, and so far so good. Looks like a great month–happy reading!

There are so many good books, I’m a little nervous about Down Comes the Night but I’ll give it a shot:-)

  2. I just finished The Lost Village last week and really enjoyed it. For me it was more thriller than horror, and as you said it was a nice break between fantasy and science fiction. At some point I’d love to read Dead Space, The Bone Maker, and of course The Fall of Koli (though I need to read the 2nd book 1st). Here’s to a great month of March!

  3. Kids are starting to go back to school in my county too! I’m like, ecstatic. Honestly, in-person learning should have happened a long time ago. Private schools here have actually been open since the fall, but of course our public school kids always get the shaft. Surprisingly, my March schedule is going to be lighter compared to what my TBR was like in Feb and Jan so I’m hoping I’ll get to some of my “mid priority” books like Dead Space, The Lost Village and Machinehood!

California has been so conservative about reopening schools. I get it but try harder to make it safe so those poor kids can get out of the house!

  4. Who knew indeed that after one year we still wuld be in this pandemic??? And The Lost Apothecary is the one that has me the most excited Tammy!

  5. You already have so much stuff planned, I love this level of organization! I usually have a lot more of my reviews planned by now as well but I need to get cracking on my SFF reading haha. Have a great month, Tammy!
