Buffy’s Corner 1/24/21 – Looking at the Week Ahead

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D

This has been an awesome week, all because of THIS:

And THIS:

And THIS:

Also, is anyone else obsessed with the Bernie memes? Ha ha I cannot stop laughing, but I’m sure it will eventually get old.

Anyway, nothing can top the peaceful, positive and uplifting Inauguration of Biden/Harris. I mean, they are actually doing stuff already! Imagine that;-)

Let’s see what’s happening on the blog next week:

Upcoming reviews:

Well. It’s been a frustrating reading week. I dove into The Forever Sea early last week and I’m only at about the 50% mark as of today. This book is…odd. The world building is fantastic, and the story has a great hook that should work. But for some reason I’m really struggling to pick it up. It’s just not pulling me in the way I thought it would, probably because it’s very slow and description heavy. I’m having a very similar reaction to it that The Captain had here. So I’m trying hard to finish it and get a review up, but I don’t know exactly when that will be. Stand by!

Meanwhile, I decided to start another January review book, in hopes of at least finishing something. I started Threader Origins and I guess it’s OK, but not blowing me away. By the time you read this post I will have finished it, but to be honest I’ve had to force myself to keep reading. So over all, not a great week for books. I expect to at least post my review of Threader Origins, but I’m not sure if I’ll finish The Forever Sea this week or not.

Upcoming reads:

After completing those two, I’m going to consider January a success and dive into my February books! Up first will be Winter’s Orbit, and after that probably The History of What Comes Next. I have a Tor Essentials anthology to read, The Best of R.A Lafferty, and I’m going to start this and read a story or two every day until I finish.

Author interviews/Book excerpts

This week I’m happy to have author Tim Pratt (Doors of Sleep) visiting the blog! Check out my interview with Tim on Monday. I’m also helping promote the release of Knight’s Ransom by Jeff Wheeler and will be featuring an excerpt. The date hasn’t been finalized but it will probably be posted on Tuesday.

The usual memes…

Wednesday I have a pretty big cover reveal to share on Future Fiction (OK it’s a UK cover but I’m sharing it anyway!). No doubt a lot of you already know what I’m talking about. And the Friday Face-Off is “Vintage Sci-Fi.”

In case you missed…

Here are my posts from last week:

  1. Hhhmmmm…. sorry to hear about The Forever Sea and Threader Origins. Here’s hoping the next book is a much more engaging one. I love how Nothing But Blackened Teeth keeps showing up. 🙂

  2. The Captain

Eeeek! Sorry to hear the forever sea isn’t working well for ye either. But hooray for a new president!

  3. I am loving all the Bernie memes! Can’t help but share them all! The Forever Sea is one I can’t wait for your review. I think I saw someone else posted a review of it this past week and I need to go check that out as well. Hope you have a good week! My wrap-up is below.

I have hope too. I know things don’t change overnight but at least I feel like we’re finally moving in the right direction.

I’m going to finish it but I’m taking a break, lol. Two problematic books in a row is too much for me!

  4. Amanda Gorman was amazing. The entire Inauguration went very well. We have real leadership again! Yay! I’m loving all the Bernie memes. He’s been great about them too, which isn’t surprising. I had high hopes for The Forever Sea. I am sorry to hear it isn’t quite working as well as we hoped it would. I am curious about The History of What Comes Next and look forward to reading your thoughts on it. I hope you enjoy you reading and have a great week!

  5. Definitely an improvement last week! Amanda Gorman was amazing! Sorry to hear The Forever Sea isn’t grabbing you so much, a hold of it just arrived at my library so I’ll probably pick it up this week and give it a shot–I’m really curious about it.Also very excited about The History of What Comes Next. I hope you have a great week!

I’m so curious to hear some reactions from fellow bloggers on The Forever Sea. I might be crazy and I need to compare notes!

  6. We shall agree to disagree on the above mentioned happenings of last week. (not on the poem lady that was fine)
Sorry to hear that your reads are not great! I really hate when that happens!!

Have a great week and happy reading!

  7. I was also really pleased to see the Inauguration go off so smoothly and with such appropriate dignity – and I’m not American… It’s such a relief to have someone at the helm who knows how to behave.

You have a lovely lot of books there – as you know, I loved Doors of Sleep and I also have Winter’s Orbit and hope to get to it very soon… I hope your reading this week is more successful, Tammy.

Ha ha yes! “Someone who knows how to behave.” Such a simple concept that’s been missing in the White House. I hope we both enjoy Winter’s Orbit:-)

Same here! It was so nice not to have that awful feeling of dread I (and most others) experienced 4 years ago.
