What’s On My Plate – November 2020

Yesterday I shared my (ambitious) plans for #SciFiMonth, but guess what? I still have a bunch of non-sci-fi books to read this month as well! November is going to be a whirlwind of books and other activity here on the blog, and honestly, I’m excited about it. I’m a planner at heart, so being able to look forward to upcoming events and get excited about them is what keeps me going.

Here are MORE books I can’t wait to read this month:

Call of the Bone Ships by R.J. Barker is one of my most anticipated books of the month for sure. This is the sequel to The Bone Ships, and I adored that book so much!

The Children of Red Peak by Craig DiLouie is probably my second most anticipated November release. No strike that. These first two are books I’m equally excited about. I may be reading this by the time this post goes live, but in any case, I will be reading it soon.

These Violent Delights by Chloe Gong. I’ve been hearing lots of positive buzz about this YA fantasy,

The Factory Witches of Lowell by C.S. Malerich. This is a Tor.com novella and I’m very excited to check it out. Because witches!

Betty by Tiffany McDaniel. I’m a little behind, because I wanted to read this last month. But you know how that goes, sometimes your reading plans just don’t come together. I’ll definitely get a review up in November.

Eight Cylinders by Jason Parent. This novella sounds crazy, and in a good way! I’m also grateful to have a couple of shorter reads this month, so I can squeeze more books in.

Spellbreaker by Charlie N. Holmberg. I’ve seen some good reviews already for this book, which is the first in a new duology by Holmberg. It’s being released today, so I’m already behind (oops), but I hope to get to it later in the month.

Shadows of the Short Days by Alexander Dan Vihljálmsson. This fantasy has some good reviews as well, and although it’s a bit of a chonker, I’m still hoping to squeeze it in.

The Preserve by Ariel S. Winter. This was a long-ago NetGalley request that I had almost forgotten about. And now that I’m refamiliarizing myself with it, I just realized it’s a sci-fi story, so if I can read it, I guess I have one more SF book for Sci Fi Month:-D

ARTWORK by Tithi Luadthong from 123RF.com

November means Sci Fi Month, and if you missed my kick-off post, check it out here. I’ll be mixing it up with lots of genres this month, but my focus is definitely on science fiction!

Here’s a recap of what I read and reviewed in October. I had a fantastic month! I managed to get ten reviews up, which is a lot for me, and I loved so many of these books. Click on the titles if you missed my reviews:

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

The Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow

Ring Shout by P. Djèlí Clark

Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse

Mongrels by Stephen Graham Jones

The Raven Lady by Sharon Lynn Fisher

The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher

Over the Woodward Wall by A. Deborah Baker

The Easton Falls Massacre: Bigfoot’s Revenge by Holly Rae Garcia & Ryan Prentice Garcia

Jagged Edges and Moving Parts by Pete Mesling

Let me know what you plan to read this month:-D

  1. Well, you have your plate full for November!! All the books you mentioned seem interesting (and I have yet to read The Bone Ship, argh!!) so I will wait to know what you would think of them!

  2. You had a great reading month in October, and I hope you have a great one this month too! I do hope you get to These Violent Delights because I need someone’s opinion…lol. For me it’s just super slow and I think I could handle that if there was a bit more action!

  3. Lots of 4-5 star books this past month, that’s awesome! I’m hoping November continues that trend, and based on this list it looks like it’s certainly possible.

  4. I see you had a great month! Sadly The Invisible Life of Addie laRue is a miss for me. And I feel so bad as I am in the minority here….

  5. I’ll be reading The Children of Red Peak and The Factory Witches of Lowell for sure! And I need to get to Addie LaRue — I bought a copy when it came out, and just fell behind on my reading plans (but what else is new?). Enjoy your reading!

  6. Will

So I’m counting… 18 books you want to read this month. That’s um, certainly optimistic! I wish you well!

I still need to get to Once and Future Witches. But after your review of it, I dioubt it’ll give me much trouble 🙂

  7. My Orbit requests package landed too, so I’ll be reading Craig DiLouie and Bone Ships too, if I can fit it in! I’m trying to load up on the sci-fi books I need to catch up with for Sci-Fi Month!

  8. Ten reviews is great! I had a decent month but am behind on reviews. I just started Ring Shout last night. Only about 12% in but it’s interesting, that’s for sure! I bet you get lots done this month. I can’t believe it’s November!

  9. I did manage a few reviews because my SPFBO stage 1 concluded but I’m behind with review books and my concentration isn’t the best for some reason.
    Lynn 😀
