The Friday Face-Off was created by Books by Proxy, where each week bloggers can showcase books with covers centered around a weekly theme. You can visit Lynn’s Books for a list of upcoming themes. Join in the fun each Friday by finding a book whose cover is based on the theme!
This week’s theme: “Farewell, Aragog, king of the arachnids, whose long and faithful friendship those who knew you would never forget!” – A cover with a spider’s web.
I honestly couldn’t think of a book I’ve read to feature this week, so I’m highlighting a book I haven’t read, Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman. There are quite a few covers, lots of them with spider webs, take a look:
U.S. paperback edition 2006 | U.S. Hardcover 2005 | Kindle edition 2010
UK paperback edition 2006 | Polish edition 2017 | German edition 2007
UK Illustrated edition 2016 | Ukrainian edition 2019 | Croatian edition 2011
Turkish edition 2013 | Portuguese edition 2012 | Russian edition 2017
Creepiest cover award goes to….the Russians! Ha ha. I can’t even look at that one. For some reason, I’m more drawn to the covers with figures on them, rather than spiders and webs. I think my favorite is the Croatian edition, it looks so magical!
I think the Ukranian one is my fav, it looks like so much fun.
I would like to unsee the Russian one
Ha ha me too!
Ew the Russian one will feature in my nightmares I think. Yikes. xD

It’s hard to unsee it;-)
I agree with you on the creepiest! My favorite is the U.S. paperback edition, I love the silhouettes.
I like that one too:-)
They’re all fabulous covers and would make me want to grab the book from the shelf. My fave is the UK paperback because it’s understated but still has the creepy-but-interesting factor.

I really like that one too:-)
OMG WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE RUSSIAN COVERS?!? They are insane. And I love them.
Ha ha I know, crazy right?
Love your pick this week!
Thanks Kristi!
My favorite is the US paperback. It’s the one I have.

That oe is pretty good:-)
Spiderwebs without an actual spider in them are far more acceptable!! 😉

Ha ha I agree:-)
For me Ukranian gets the weird award! I think I like the German version the best. 🙂
That one’s weird too:-)
I haven’t read this one yet either, but I do have a copy of the US paperback on myself. I do agree with you – the Russian edition is definitely the creepiest!
It’s hard to look at…
I think I like the first one the best. And yep, it also has the bonus of no spiders on it 😛
Yep, I’m not a big fan of spiders either;-)
Great pick Tammy! I think I kind of like the original us cover best for this one, probably because it’s the one I’m used to seeing haha
I’m really drawn to the Ukrainian one, I don’t know why exactly but I like it the best!
I really like the UK paperback – all the NG covers have a very similar design and they look great together.
