Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D
Three new awesome looking books, take a look:
The Emperor of Aria is dead, and three junior members of a street gang are unwittingly caught up in the ensuing struggle for the throne, in the first epic adventure in a new fantasy world from a master of the genre.
The vast Empire of Aria is in crisis. The Emperor is dead, murdered. The heir is a nine-year-old boy whose older sister, a potent sorceress, is manoeuvring to act as regent. Factions are forming within the Imperial family, the Southern lords are edging towards open rebellion, and on the far-flung borders an ancient darkness stirs.
Myla, Fingers and Seth couldn’t care less. All members of Fat Al’s Teahouse gang, they’ve found themselves in somewhat of a pickle, caught at the scene of a crime stealing to order, what they only just now realise might well be linked to the Emperor’s untimely demise. Stuck in a city on lockdown they’re forced to lay low, but the wolves are circling, and rival gangs are smelling blood…
The Moonsteel Crown by Stephen Deas. Releases in February 2021 from Angry Robot. I love the sound of this book. Deas has written a ton of books, but I’ve never read him before. This is on my radar for 2021 for sure, and don’t you love the cover?
The Dark has been waiting for far too long, and it won’t stay hidden any longer.
Something is wrong in Snakebite, Oregon. Teenagers are disappearing, some turning up dead, the weather isn’t normal, and all fingers seem to point to TV’s most popular ghost hunters who have just returned to town. Logan Ortiz-Woodley, daughter of TV’s ParaSpectors, has never been to Snakebite before, but the moment she and her dads arrive, she starts to get the feeling that there’s more secrets buried here than they originally let on.
Ashley Barton’s boyfriend was the first teen to go missing, and she’s felt his presence ever since. But now that the Ortiz-Woodleys are in town, his ghost is following her and the only person Ashley can trust is the mysterious Logan. When Ashley and Logan team up to figure out who—or what—is haunting Snakebite, their investigation reveals truths about the town, their families, and themselves that neither of them are ready for. As the danger intensifies, they realize that their growing feelings for each other could be a light in the darkness.
Courtney Gould’s thrilling debut The Dead and the Dark is about the things that lurk in dark corners, the parts of you that can’t remain hidden, and about finding home in places—and people—you didn’t expect.
The Dead and the Dark by Courtney Gould. Releases in August 2021 from Wednesday Books. I know this one is pretty far away, but it sounds super creepy! I don’t read enough paranormal stories, and this sounds like a good one.
Immigrant. Socialite. Magician.
Jordan Baker grows up in the most rarefied circles of 1920s American society―she has money, education, a killer golf handicap, and invitations to some of the most exclusive parties of the Jazz Age. She’s also queer, Asian, adopted, and treated as an exotic attraction by her peers, while the most important doors remain closed to her.
But the world is full of wonders: infernal pacts and dazzling illusions, lost ghosts and elemental mysteries. In all paper is fire, and Jordan can burn the cut paper heart out of a man. She just has to learn how.
Nghi Vo’s debut novel reinvents this classic of the American canon as a coming-of-age story full of magic, mystery, and glittering excess, and introduces a major new literary voice.
The Chosen and the Beautiful by Nghi Vo. Releases in June 2021 from Tor.com. I somehow missed Vo’s last Tor.com novella, but I really don’t want to miss this one. This appears to be a The Great Gatsby retelling, if I’m reading that correctly! How cool is that?
I’m so in love with the cover of The Chosen and the Beautiful. I just can’t stop looking at it… and yeah, the premise is also really cool! I hope we both end up liking it (I have high hopes because I loved Nghi Vo’s novella this year).

It’s my favorite cover of the bunch for sure. I can’t wait!
I like your picks, but The Chosen and the Beautiful looks and sounds . . . Well, particularly beautiful! I’m definitely noting it down, and I hope it works really well because the premise is great 😀
I hope it’s good too:-)
Mmm, The Moonsteel Crown is calling to me. Muchly.
Lynn 😀
Me too, the cover is simple yet really pretty.
The Dead and the Dark cover AND title really catch my attention. Happy reading!

Oh hello, the Dead and the Dark — between the cover and blurb, that is quite the combination! Great picks!
I know right? The cover is sort of mesmerizing…
Great picks – of the three, I think it’s The Chosen and the Beautiful that appeals to me the most, having enjoyed her novellas.
I’m excited to try Nghi Vo:-)
I am now obsessed with the cover of The Dead and the Dark. Thanks for that haha 😀

Ha ha I love it too:-)
The Dead and the Dark sounds really cool!
It does, and the cover is really different:-)
When I read the first part of the description for The Moonsteel Crown I thought, ho hum, another empire in turmoil with the darkness stirring. But then I saw Fat Al’s Teahouse gang and immediately perked up, intrigued. 🙂
I agree, it sort of switches gears!
Hmm, the first one doesn’t grab me as much as the bottom two do. Great picks though! Thanks for sharing! My Wednesday post is in the link below.

Yessss at Nghi Vo’s Gatsby retelling! The Empress of Salt and Fortune was breathtaking and I’ve actually got an ARC of her next novella When The Tiger Came Down The Mountain that I’m picking up as my next read. Her writing is mesmerising and can’t wait for The Chosen and the Beautiful
Now I’m definitely sold!
Wow! All of these books look so beautiful! Great picks!

Thanks Ronyell:-)
I loved Nghi Vo’s The Empress of Salt and Fortune, so I’m very interested in The Chosen and the Beautiful. Also, I, too, read the phrase “Fat Al’s Teahouse gang” and thought “yes.”
Oh good, glad to know you already like Nghi Vo:-)
Thanks for the introduction to all of these, Tammy!
Anytime!
Wow! I definitely need The Dead and the Dark. And what a striking cover!
I love the cover too!
A Great Gatsby retelling? I’m here for that. The ghost hunting one sounds good too. I hope you enjoy these!

Thanks Aj!
I beta-read The Moonsteel Crown, and really enjoyed it. If you enjoy it too, and want something more from Stephen Dias, I recommend starting with Dragon Queen. I know its the 5th book in the series, but I think its a good entry point. Really imaginative world building, especially the nature of the dragons & their relationship with humans. Another great cover too!
The Chosen & the Beautiful is going on my TBR. Thanks 🙂
Oh wow, how cool that you beta read it! Thanks for the rec, I’ll check him out for sure:-)
Ugh. Autocorrect turned Deas into Dias above. Apologies for not catching that 🙁
These both sound so good. I’m especially interested in the Great Gatsby retelling. And how gorgeous is that cover?
I know, that cover is SO gorgeous:-)
I think I’ve only read one of Deas books, but I’m definitely looking forward to this new one!
I surprised I haven’t read him, he’s so prolific!
All of these covers are gorgeous and the stories all intriguing! I hope you love them all!
Thanks Tressa:-)
The Chosen and the Beautiful sounds awesome! I enjoyed The Empress of Salt and Fortune.

I’ve heard such good things, I can’t wait to try this author:-)
Hope you get your hands on them! 🙂
Me too!
Ooooh, well the last two look extremely interesting to me! I really keep meaning to read Nghi Vo! Hope you enjoy these if you get to them!
Thanks Lisa:-)
Oooh, I just immediately preordered The Dead and the Dark.
It sounds good, right?
As ever, your picks are all intriguing and look amazing. I have read Stephen Deas – the first of his dragon series. And this one sounds really interesting and you’re right – that cover is a draw… As is that amazing cover for The Dark and the Dead… But I particularly love the sound of The Beautiful and the Chosen! Thank you for sharing, Tammy:)).
Thanks Sarah!
First time I’m hearing of these but they sure do have stunning covers! That last one being a Gatsby retelling definitely intrigues me. Never thought that would be possible! 😀 Thanks for sharing, Tammy!
