Future Fiction #72 – Cover Reveals & Newly Discovered SFF Books

Welcome to Future Fiction, my reimagining of the Waiting on Wednesday meme! There are so many amazing new books coming out, that I can no longer pick just one. My goal with Future Fiction is to share at least three new books each week, a combination of recent cover reveals and books that I’ve recently added to my TBR pile. I’m still going to be linking up with Wishful Endings/Can’t Wait Wednesday, and I also want to give a shout out to Jill at Breaking the Spine for starting the original Waiting on Wednesday meme. I hope you’ll find some new books to add to your TBR piles, and as always, I look forward to hearing what YOU’RE looking forward to:-D

Three new covers, three exciting books!

“When they said all happy families are alike, I don’t think this is what they meant…”

Evelyn Caldwell’s husband Nathan has been having an affair — with Evelyn Caldwell. Or, to be exact, with a genetically cloned replica.

After a morning that begins with a confrontation and ends with Nathan’s body bleeding out on the kitchen floor, the two Caldwell wives will have to think fast—before sharing everything includes sharing a jail cell.

The Echo Wife is a non-stop thrill ride of lies, betrayal, and identity, perfect for fans of Big Little Lies and Killing Eve.

The Echo Wife by Sarah Gailey. Releases in  February 2021 from Tor Books. I was excited to see this cover revealed last week, and in fact there is an excerpt up on the EW website if you’re interested. I love this cover, and I love the idea of a twist on the domestic thriller story. Gailey hasn’t disappointed me yet, and I’m really looking forward to this.

When Edward Cullen and Bella Swan met in Twilight, an iconic love story was born. But until now, fans have heard only Bella’s side of the story. At last, readers can experience Edward’s version in the long-awaited companion novel, Midnight Sun.

This unforgettable tale as told through Edward’s eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting beautiful, mysterious Bella is both the most intriguing and unnerving event he has experienced in his long life as a vampire. As we learn more fascinating details about Edward’s past and the complexity of his inner thoughts, we understand why this is the defining struggle of his life. How can he let himself fall in love with Bella when he knows that he is endangering her life?

In Midnight Sun, Stephenie Meyer transports us back to a world that has captivated millions of readers and, drawing on the classic myth of Hades and Persephone, brings us an epic novel about the profound pleasures and devastating consequences of immortal love.

Midnight Sun (Twilight #5) by Stephenie Meyer. Releases in August 2020 from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. OK, you know I had to feature this book, right? I mean if you didn’t hear the news last week that Meyer was finally releasing her oh-so-secret version of Twilight, told from Edward’s perspective, then you just weren’t paying attention. I’ve never made a secret of my love for Twilight and so I am actually pretty excited about this book! Hey, let’s face it: it’s either going to crash and burn or work really well:-)

An audacious novel of feminine rage about one of the most prolific female serial killers in American history–and the men who drove her to it.

They whisper about her in Chicago. Men come to her with their hopes, their dreams–their fortunes. But no one sees them leave. No one sees them at all after they come to call on the Widow of La Porte. The good people of Indiana may have their suspicions, but if those fools knew what she’d given up, what was taken from her, how she’d suffered, surely they’d understand. Belle Gunness learned a long time ago that a woman has to make her own way in this world. That’s all it is. A bloody means to an end. A glorious enterprise meant to raise her from the bleak, colorless drudgery of her childhood to the life she deserves. After all, vermin always survive.

In the Garden of Spite by Camilla Bruce. Releases in January 2021 from Berkley. I honestly don’t even need to know what this book is about, it’s by Camilla Bruce and that’s all I care about! You may have recently heard me gush about You Let Me In, and I’m thrilled she has another book coming out soon. CAN. NOT. WAIT!!

  1. Ooo… you can keep Twilight and the Sarah Gailey offering – CAMILA BRUCE HAS A NEW BOOK – Yippee!! *happy dance around the lounge*. Thank you for the news, my friend – you always seem to get the news about the coolest upcoming releases before everyone else!

    • Tammy

I subscribe to lots of author newsletters and also follow my favorite authors on Instagram and Twitter. You can learn a lot by following them:-)

  2. The Echo Wife sounds interesting, but I’m going to wait to see some reviews first.
Ahhh Midnight Sun. I can still remember the day Meyer said she wasn’t going to publish it. Broke my heart. I haven’t read those books in so long. Hopefully they hold up!

    • Tammy

It should be very interesting to read Midnight Sun. I’m both excited and terrified!

  3. Ooh, the Camilla Bruce sounds great! I am dying to read the Sarah Gailey! An editor at Tor was telling me about that one back in January and I’ve been dying to read it!

  4. When I started reading the synopsis of The Echo Wife I kept saying to myself what?! Definitely didn’t expect all that but it does sound like an excellent read! And ahhh Midnight Sun. I was hoping for a sequel to The Host so I’m not super excited about it. Might read it someday but probably not any time soon when it releases. But… In the Garden of Spite sounds super amazing though?! 😮

Oh yeah, I thought she was working on a sequel to the Host? Haven’t heard anything about that in a while.

  5. Ooooh. The Sarah Gailey book is a must read for me — I’ll read anything she writes, and I’m so excited there’s a new book on the horizon. And yes, I’ll be reading Midnight Sun of course. The Camilla Bruce book sounds amazing, but I still need to read You Let Me In. Great choices this week!

  6. Some great choices this week – as usual. I saw the Camilla Bruce book this week and already added it to my wishlist. However, I didn’t make the connection. Now I want it even more. I may rip Twilight but I won’t lie. Me and the girls at my last job devoured and passed them around as soon as they came out and they really did pull me back into reading. I never cared much for Edward and was always Team Jacob so I’ll be interested to see some reviews. I REALLY couldn’t stand Bella though and secretly hope that this installment reveals Edward was secretly in love with Jacob.

    • Tammy

I didn’t make the connection either. I had it on my Goodreads “to read” but when the cover popped up I didn’t make the connection at first. Now I’m super excited! And wow, what a theory! Edward in love with Jacob?? Now I’ve got to read it:-)

  7. The Camilla Bruce book sounds amazing and I’m finding myself curious about the Twilight book even though I wasn’t a huge fan of the series when it first came out. I guess I want to see where the author is taking it after all this time, pretty much the same way about feel about the new Hunger Games book.

    • Tammy

Exactly, I’m not rushing out to buy the Hunger Games prequel, I want to see what other readers think first.

    • Tammy

I guess publishers are being generous with eARCs because of our situation and very few physical ARCs out there:-)

  8. Interesting picks! I remember what seems like ages ago when Midnight Sun got leaked so she refused to publish it or something like that. Guess now it’s been a long enough time to go ahead and put it out there. I might have read it back then but now I am not really that interested hope you love it! I am really curious about your third pick on here! 🙂

    • Tammy

Exactly, her next book seems so different from You Let Me In, but I honestly don’t care!

  9. I have mixed feelings about Meyer’s book, to be honest, but I am thinking about it. But the other two were completely new to me and they seem fantastic! I have added them both to my TBR!

    • Tammy

Yes, me too, I’m not sure if Midnight Sun will live up to my expectations, but I think it will be fun anyway.

  10. Oh I love that premise for Sarah Gailey’s book. I’m almost a little curious myself about Midnight Sun–I can’t deny back in the day how quickly I read through those Twilight books! They really were great entertainment. In the Garden of Spite sounds fantastic and I am absolutely adding it to my TBR (although January 2021!? I tseems so far, haha.)!

  11. Oh, goodness, In the Garden of Spite had me at that tagline. Yes, murder is a legitimate strategy, I suppose. xD I’m not entirely sure I care what it’s about, either. Sign me up! Definitely gonna have to read that one.
