Buffy’s Corner – Looking at the Week Ahead 5/10/20

Welcome to Buffy’s Corner, where I take a look at what’s coming up this week on the blog! I’m linking up with The Sunday Post over at Kimberly’s blog, The Caffeinated Reviewer:-D

Happy Mother’s Day, to all the moms out there! I know this year is going to be really weird for a lot of us, but I hope everyone finds something fun or peaceful to do:-D Oh so many fictional mothers to choose from, but I went with Penelope Blossom from Riverdale, especially since it’s fresh in my mind. Also, Penelope is one of the SCARIEST moms ever, so I thought it would be appropriate:-)

Upcoming Reviews:

I only have one review planned so far this week, and that is my review for Race the Sands by Sarah Beth Durst. Wow, this book is just as good as everyone says it is! Such a delight to read, and a perfect book for #WyrdandWonder this month. My review should be up tomorrow, so check back!

The usual memes…

On Tuesday, I’ll post my first Wyrd and Wonder list: Twelve YA Fantasy Books to Get Excited About. You don’t want to miss it! Wednesday I’ll have three fresh Future Fiction picks for you—although two of them were plastered all over the internet last week so they may not be news to everyone…And finally, The Friday Face-Off prompt this week is “Pink covers.” Should be lots of fun!

Upcoming reads:

I’m letting my mood guide me this month, but I do want to (finally) crack the Wyrd and Wonder fantasy TBR I set out for myself. And I’m starting with The Bone Ships, which I’ll already have started by the time you read this. Not sure if I’ll be able to read anything else this week, but I might pick up Chaos Reigning next, simply for a change of pace. But we’ll see. I may choose something completely different…

Watching:

So I’ve watched two episodes of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and I like it OK? But I’m not completely sold. I will watch more. I love the actor who plays Sabrina, but there are so many adults on this show with British accents. WHY??? This is a very dark show. And that’s funny because Riverdale is pretty dark too. But Sabrina involves worshiping the devil and being baptized in blood and lots of other dark shit. It’s freaking scary! I did hear somewhere that Riverdale Season 4 will be on NetFlix this week, so I may be switching back, yay:-D

In case you missed…

My posts from last week:

Fractured Tide by Leslie Lutz – Review

Future Fiction #71

Goldilocks by Laura Lam – Review

The Friday Face-Off: Graphic Novel

Quick Fire Fantasy Book Tag

Hope to see you around the blogosphere this week:-D

Interesting. I may try to finish the first season. But the episodes are so long, compared to the 42 minute length of Riverdale, lol.

  1. Happy Mother’s Day, Tammy! Hope you have a great one, despite the circumstances. Looking forward to hearing what you think of both Race the Sands and The Bone Ships.

I’m happy to hear that, I can’t wait to get started on Chaos Reigning:-) Happy Mother’s Day!

  2. Penelope definitely scares me lol!

Happy Mother’s Day. Speaking of Riverdale, yesss I am glad to hear S4 will be popping onto Netflix soon since I’m watching S3 again and want to catch up. I did watcha bit of Sabrina but that was almost TOO dark for me, yikes! 🙂

    Chaos Reignig looks amazing.

  3. The most bizarre part of Mother’s Day this year is that I spent it mostly without my offspring, since she’s off spending time with her grandmother (which suits me fine, because we have ALL SUMMER now, and ostensibly, my mother-in-law will eventually be heading back to work LOL). Happy Mother’s Day to you, too!

Looking forward to your review for Race the Sands. I haven’t heard a lot about that, but the little bit I’ve heard has been good, so I’ll be eager to see what you have to say about it. I still need to read The Bone Ships, and I’m really looking forward to it! I’m thinking maybe I can get to it this month? Maybe. We’ll see haha.

I’ve been trying to get to the Bone Ships since last year, so it’s really a miracle that I’m reading it now! Hope you had a happy Mother’s Day:-)

  4. I’ll be interested to know what you think about The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as I remember watching a few episodes a while back and for some reason never carried on with it and I’m wondering whether I should give it another chance. Riverdale is another show I’ve had on my watchlist for ages now but haven’t started yet 😀

I just love Riverdale, for some reason it just works for me. I know I’m three years late to the party but oh well!

  5. I loved the first season of TCAoS but quickly lost interest in season 2 and never finished. I’ve been a huge fan of Riverdale but season 4 was a little too ridiculous for me though I’m sure I’ll keep watching (though I’m bummed to lose Skeet Ulrich)

I feel like after season 1 Riverdale become really over the top, so now I’m curious to see what season 4 is going to bring!

      • Oh yes, just wait! Sometimes in season 4 I couldn’t decide whether to roll my eyes or laugh or both. But honestly, that’s why I still watch!

  6. I read a ton of Archie comics when I was a kid so I was super excited for Riverdale but it was too dark for me. I didn’t even try Sabrina haha. I hope you like it better after more episodes! I hope you have a great week!

Riverdale is quite different from the comics, I’m sure. And it gets darker and darker as it goes along, lol.

    • Tammy

It’s my first book by Barker and so far I’m really enjoying it. It’s very different!

    • Tammy

OK I hope you don’t mean that something happens to Jughead??!! After the season three finale I’m very worried…

  7. I hope you had a nice Mother’s Day. I’ve only watched the first season of Sabrina so far but it definitely took me 3 or 4 episodes to get into it. Riverdale is great though. I need to get caught up so thanks for the head’s up about Netflix. 🙂
