Wyrd & Wonder: A Fantastical Month of Fantasy

Back for its third year, Wyrd and Wonder is a month long celebration of all things fantasy, and I’m excited to be participating once again! Our hosts are imyril, Lisa and Jorie, and you can find out more about the event by clicking this link. Basically, the idea is to focus on fantasy books, movies, TV, gaming or whatever you love! I have several May review books that fall into other genres, which I’ll be talking about in my What’s On My Plate feature this Friday, but today I wanted to share the fantasy books I’d love to read this month.

Five of these are overdue review books that I just haven’t been able to squeeze into my schedule, and I figured this would be a great opportunity to try to catch up. I’m also including a non-review book I’m DYING to read. I don’t expect to read all of these, but I’ll do my best:

The Books:

Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo isn’t a review book, but I’ve had a copy sitting in a pile for months now. Of all the books I regret not reading yet, this is probably at the top of the list.

The Wolf of Oren-Yaro by K.S. Villoso has some mixed reviews from my blogger friends, but I’m curious to see what my thoughts are.

The Ranger of Marzanna by Jon Skovron. This is another book that’s got readers divided, but I would like to try it myself.

Legacy of Ash by Matthew Ward. This book is getting much better reviews that the first two, but at 800 pages I’ve been hesitating because I know it will take forever to read.

The Bone Ships by R.J. Barker also has great reviews, and I think of all these books, this is the one I’m going to enjoy the most.

Finally, Master of Sorrows by Justin T. Call is the second longest of these five books, clocking in at almost 700 pages. Jeez!! However, I have heard wonderful things about this book.

And to help me out, I’d love it if you’ve read any of these books, please vote below for the book I should tackle first:

Lists, Future Fiction & Friday Face-Off:

I hope to get at least one fantasy-themed Top Ten list up this month, and I’ll try my best to feature only fantasy books during my Future Fiction posts. And the Friday Face-Off can definitely be tailored to fantasy, and here are the weekly themes in case you’d like to join us:

May 1: A cover with a dog

May 8th: A graphic novel cover

May 15th: A cover that is pink

May 22nd: A cover that evokes sorrow

May 29th: A cover with a silhouette

Giveaway:

At the end of the month, I’m running an international giveaway, and the winner will get to pick any book featured on my Wyrd & Wonder posts! Look for my wrap-up post on May 30th where you’ll be able to enter the giveaway.

And that’s how my month of fantasy is shaping up! Are you participating in Wyrd & Wonder?

Exactly, “tentative” is always my plan, you just never know what will pop up. I also just remembered that I still need to read Storm of Locusts, that’s fantasy, right?

  1. I am soooo looking forward to Wyrd and Wonder! And I haven’t read any of the books you mentioned, but I have almost all of them on my TBR, so I am curious to know what you would think of them!!!

  2. I’m pretty sure these are aaaaall on my TBR already. Gosh, they need to slow down releasing all the amazing books so I can catch up. It’s only fair. xD Bone Ships is one of my overdue reviews, and I feel bad. I should squeeze that in this month if I can. I’m sure I’m going to love it. I grabbed Ninth House from my library recently, so I’m looking forward to seeing what you think of it, since I’ve heard so many mixed things about it! I’m not sure when I’ll get around to reading it at this point, but it seems like an interesting one.

I’ve mostly heard good things about Ninth House. I think readers who weren’t expecting such a dark, adult book didn’t enjoy it as much, but I love both those things, so I have a good feeling about it:-)

  3. I’m interested in Master of Sorrows and Legacy of Ash, but I think I’m most curious about The Bone Ships. I hope you enjoy most, if not all, of these!

  4. I haven’t read any of these, but all of them are on my tbr list! An awesome selection – can’t wait to hear your thoughts on them all.
Yay for Wyrd and Wonder! <3

  5. I need to take a look at this event and maybe jump in. The Ranger of Marzanna is a new one for me but caught my eye. I haven’t read a good fantasy in a while seems like! I love the sound of this event though…

I voted Wolf of Oren-Yaro because I’m pretty curious about that although TBH they all look pretty good?

  6. ooo… I haven’t taken part in Wyrd and Wonder before – but I’m going to check it out and see if I can jump in:)). Best of luck with your list, Tammy. I haven’t voted, because I’d only be going on the covers rather than making an informed choice…

I love how suddenly EVERYONE is talking about Ninth House! I swear today I’ve heard from at least 5 other bloggers that they want to read it soon!

I’m still curious about The Bone ships, although you aren’t the first person to tell me they didn’t really like it.

  7. Yay, I’m so excited for Wyrd & Wonder! Looks like a great list of books to choose from. I voted for The Bone Ships because I’ve heard great things and also RJ is a riot. I think this is our Mod Book Club book for May over in r/fantasy as well. Hope you enjoy your read!

  8. Hi Tammy, I found your blog as I’m also participating in Wyrd & Wonder. ๐Ÿ™‚ I haven’t read any of these, but I voted for The Bone Ships cos it would have been on my Wyrd & Wonder TBR if it didn’t have such a long holds list at the library ;P
